Arrows in Enshrouded are the basic mechanic for shooting projectiles with your bow weapon type. The Ranger class allows players to craft their own bows and arrows for ranged combat. Arrows can act as both the physical projectile and the source of specific damage and effects. An additive calculation determines the total damage an arrow deals: the Arrow’s inherent damage value is combined with the Bow’s base Power, establishing the initial damage potential.

This base figure is then dramatically amplified by the player’s character build, primarily scaling off the Dexterity (DEX) attribute. Investing in DEX and relevant passive skills in the Ranger tree is crucial, as this provides a significant multiplicative boost to the final damage output, ensuring a Steel Arrow fired from a powerful bow hits much harder than the sum of its parts. Bows are considered primary weapons for archers, and their effectiveness is enhanced by maintaining distance from enemies, allowing you to deal damage while avoiding melee confrontations.

Arrows are categorized by their function, ranging from standard Physical damage projectiles for general use to Elemental and Status arrows, such as Poison for damage-over-time or Stun for crowd control, allowing players to strategically exploit enemy weaknesses. Arrows not only deal damage but also apply effects, such as poison or stun, to targets. Compared to other weapons, bows and arrows function similarly but offer unique ranged advantages, letting you control the battlefield from afar. Arrow crafting is a core part of ranged combat. Most basic arrows can be crafted instantly from your manual player inventory using simple materials like Twigs. Advanced, metal, and elemental arrows must be unlocked and crafted at the Hunter’s station. Players can unlock new arrow recipes by rescuing the Hunter survivor in Enshrouded, and your ability to craft and use arrows is directly tied to the Hunter. Prioritizing the rescue and placement of the Hunter is the single most important step in upgrading your ranged combat prowess. The Ranger class is popular for its ability to deal damage from a distance while avoiding damage.

1. Explosive Arrows (Highest Damage and Control)

The Explosive Arrows (I, II, and III) are the best arrows in Enshrouded because of their raw fire damage, AOE, and interaction with skills in the Assassin and Ranger trees. There are three versions of Explosive Arrows (EA), and while EA III deals 38 damage in comparison to 15, they are time-consuming and difficult to craft thanks to Iron Dust and Black Powder. Most players still go with Explosive Arrow I because of the simplicity of crafting ingredients. Let’s explain skill interaction so you can use these arrows for the most damage possible:

Chain Reaction (Ranger Tree): Each enemy hit by an Explosive Arrow has a 20% chance to trigger a secondary explosion dealing 50% damage in a small radius.
Ricochet (Ranger Tree): Each target hit by an Explosive Arrow increases its damage by 1%.
Multi Shot Trigger (Ranger Tree): Special Arrows now trigger a Flurry of Arrows from the Multi Shot skill, subtracting from your ammunition.
Multi Shot (Ranger Tree): Regular arrows have a 20% chance to spawn a spreading Flurry of Arrows, which does not trigger on Special Arrows.
Multi Shot Spread (Ranger Tree): Adds a 25% chance to spawn one additional Regular Arrow alongside your Multi Shot Flurry.
Arsonist (Wizard Tree): Increases all Fire damage by 10% per level.
Shell Shock (Assassin Tree): Infuses Ranged Explosives with Mana to stun hit enemies for 2 seconds.

The developers made many skills specifically for explosive arrows. You get a second explosion effect, multiple arrows at once, plus the chance to stun on hit. Another interesting piece is that the fire damage is increased with Wizard skills, giving you an extra 30% damage on top of that. Throw on two backstab passives when attacking from the back, and you can see just how much damage explosive arrows can do to any target. Lastly, the fire damage is also buffed with any source, like Prayer Flame Scroll, stacking multiple damage multipliers onto one powerful arrow.

Another added advantage is the Shell Shock skill from the Assassin tree. Explosive arrows now stun targets for up to 1 second and consume mana. You can stun lock groups of enemies by spamming explosive arrows. While a similar skill exists for spellcasters (Terror), it is based on critical hits, not just automatically given to you. While this can be a drain on your mana, the Blessed Arrows skill gives you 20 mana back every time you critical hit. The result is, you hit a large pack of enemies, stun them, and get back mana for a critical strike and never run out.

There is really only one reason not to use Explosive Arrows and that’s the time commitment for crafting them. However, unless you’re doing bleeding-edge damage, stick with Explosive Arrow I and you can craft them in abundance without spending countless hours farming materials. 2. Eternal Frost Arrow (No-Crafting Needed)

Eternal Frost Arrows are best for everyday use, when killing critters or enemies who aren’t that threatening. Eternal Frost Arrow doesn’t have the highest damage, but it has the added advantage of not needing to be crafted but once! There are currently two Eternal Frost Arrows in the game and are relatively easy to obtain.

To get Eternal Frost Arrow I, travel to the Blackmire area and locate the Hermit Camp on the Northwestern corner. Pick up the Blue Arrow and you have your first Eternal Arrow!

To get Eternal Frost Arrow II, you will need to craft it at the Hunter. Step one is to discover the recipe by killing a Cyclops in the Albaneve Summits location just below Howling Peak in an Elixir Well. Once you loot the Enshrouded Cyclops Eye, the recipe will pop up and allow you to craft with 25x Ice, 15x Steel Bars, and 1x Enshrouded Cyclops Eye. Eternal Frost Arrow II is over double the damage of the first arrow, but 24 mana which can get taxing unless you make the proper food choices.

Since the damage source is frost, you can increase it via skills and gear just like Fire damage. The Wizard tree has a skill (Iceman) for a 30% gain in frost damage. Another way to increase frost damage is by using rings like Ring of Frost. While there are other options for increasing damage overall, you can quickly see where the lower damage number can get pretty high with passive boost.

Most players aren’t going to be crafting 1,000 Explosive Arrows to nuke every enemy in Enshrouded. Therefore, the second best option is Eternal Arrows because they never deplete and you can use them throughout the entire game. Just make sure you have enough mana to sustain and a backup source of arrows, even if wooden, just in case you run out of mana.

3. Shroud Arrows (Damage Over Time)

The third base arrow in Enshrouded is Shroud Arrows. These deal Shroud damage, specifically, they leave a cloud upon impact. If targets stay in the cloud, they are repeatedly hit with a damage over time effect. For some reason, that damage over time (DOT) always triggers backstab damage. With two skills increasing backstab damage up to 55%, the individual ticks of the Shroud Arrow start to hit very hard if enemies are left in the cloud.

The best way to use Shroud Arrows are either at the start of combat or in choke points. If enemies have to move through a doorway or a tight space, shoot a Shroud Arrow and watch the health bars melt! Also, kicking off combat from stealth with a backstab Shroud Arrow shot is a great way to get some early damage over time.

A fun and useful combo to use is Gem of Toxic Betrayal and Shroud Arrows. The Gem triggers extra poison damage over time when you hit a backstab attack. Since the cloud triggers backstab, you almost always get the poison damage over time if you hit the target just right. It’s a great combo to use when playing with Daggers and Bow both of which scale off of Dexterity and the Dagger plays into the poison stealth theme.

The major downside to Shroud arrows is weakness in the Shroud. Targets will be immune or resistant to the damage type and it’s not useful on every enemy. However, you should always keep these in your inventory when using a bow especially if enemies walk through a tight spot.

4. Stun Arrows (Ranged Crowd Control)

Stun Arrows are helpful for crowd-controlling targets at range. This is a stun mechanic that doesn’t require you to use explosive arrows or be close to enemies. Interestingly, the damage is Blunt, not piercing or some other type. Therefore, it fills up the stun bar and when full, the target will be stunned and overpowered. You can Merciless Attack overpowered enemies or continue to deal massive damage while they are stunned.

The hardest fight in the game makes Stun Arrows mandatory: the Fell Dragon Youngling. This is the final boss fight in the Albaneve Summits region, which you need the head to increase your Flame Altar level and eventually reach Veilwater Basin.

You see a sign as you approach suggesting using stun arrows. No other weapon type and arrow combination can reach the dragon and also knock it down out of the air. Thus, nearly every build and playstyle has to use stun arrows to deal with this incredibly hard fight.

If you are using the Archer build, you will knock the dragon out of the sky much easier because the damage scales off of dexterity not strength or intelligence. Moreover, you can Multi-Shot Trigger these arrows, unleashing two at a time, doubling the stun. These arrows and the bow build is one of the main ways to get past the hardest barrier in Enshrouded. 5. Poison Arrow (Reliable Damage-Over-Time)

When you start Enshrouded, your first arrows come from manual crafting and are wooden. You quickly find a bunch of different kinds you can craft and eventually each can be laced with poison. Lacing them with poison adds a small amount of damage, but more importantly the chance to trigger poison status effect and damage over time.

The important thing to remember with poisoned arrows is the material costs. If you have a bunch of Iron Arrows, you can convert them into Poisoned Iron Arrows with only two extra materials. Iron Arrow is a key base arrow for creating Poisoned Iron Arrow, making it an effective choice for applying poison damage. Often times, this is a better way to deal DOT damage than leaving them without poisoned.

However, don’t spend the material resources when you’re leveling up and crafting. Resources like Copper and Steel are hard to get, and making 25 arrows of Copper will do nothing but slow down your progression when Wooden would work in most situations.

To that end, Bone Arrows from the Collector fighting in the Hallows (side dungeon) are a great alternative. Typically, you have a lot of extra material sitting around farming this area and turning them into Bone Arrows is a great way to save precious metal and boosting your base arrow damage.

Use scrap metal to make scrap arrows for farming or dealing with weaker foes, and save your copper, steel, and other rare materials for crafting high-damage arrows like golden steel arrows, steel arrows, or obsidian arrows. Special arrows, such as poison arrows and shroud arrows, are best reserved for tougher enemies or situations where applying effects can turn the tide of battle.

Don’t forget to tailor your arrow choice to enemy weaknesses too! Some enemies are more vulnerable to certain damage types like fire, frost, or poison – so having a variety of elemental arrows and basic arrows on hand lets you adapt on the fly.
