Avowed Giatta Build Summary

- Best Ability: Acceleration
- Key Synergy: Pairs best with Wizard Envoy as Ranged DPS
- Anniversary Change: skill points went from 8 to 11.
Giatta Features & Mechanics

The companion Giatta is the ultimate healer and support character with little offensive power. She’s the ideal choice when playing on the highest difficulty, using the “holy trinity” principal from other RPGs: Tank, Healer, and DPS. Her exploration ability is Spectral Jolt, which shocks a variety of objects and is typically used for solving puzzles.
Players should use Giatta in their group if they lack survivability or need extra support. Her skills not only heal, but buff the party with increased movement speed, attack speed, and damage reduction. Even her attack can heal allies passively, making sure you’re topped off on health at all times.
Obviously, her biggest weakness is damage of any kind. You can counter this negative by fully optimizing the Acceleration skill. By upgrading it fully, you increase the duration, reduce cooldowns, and add a damage reduction component. With reduced cooldowns, your party members are passively dealing more damage with more frequent skill usage.
Overall, she’s a great companion to bring and always make you feel more supported. Make sure to take advantage of her healing by playing aggressive in melee or at range. Let’s walk you through how to unlock Giatta, and her best skills next.
How to Unlock Giatta in Avowed

To unlock Giatta, progress the main story quest to the Emerald Stair area. You can find her in the Fior mes Ivèrno town. Her quest is missable so make sure to locate her immediately. Her questline is The Animancy Method. Once you enter the Governor’s house, help her investigate the soul-energy disturbances in the nearby ruins. Once you complete the quest and resolve the situation with her “Phantasmal Focus,” she will offer to join your party permanently to continue her research on the Dreamscourge.
Giatta’s Permanent Bonuses
Giatta’s training becomes available after you have spent significant time with her and progressed into the Shatterscarp region. You must exhaust her dialogue at the Party Camp concerning her research and her family’s history in animancy. Make sure to always talk with her at each location and major story element is completed. Once the training triggers, below are the choices you have to unlock a permanent bonus, picking one of three options:
| Dialogue Choice | Permanent Bonus |
| “I want to understand the flow of soul energy as you do.” | +2 Intellect |
| “Teach me to stay calm and focused in the heat of battle.” | +2 Resolve |
| “Show me how to balance power with control.” | +1 Intellect, +1 Resolve |
Intellect increases Maximum Essence while Resolve increases Maximum Stamina. Take your pick here depending on your Attribute focus or Build progression.
Giatta Best Abilities and Passives

Giatta’s best skills are Acceleration and Purification. Acceleration acts as the best buff in the game once fully upgraded. It’s one of the only things that helps your team’s DPS increase with reduced cooldowns while providing damage reduction and movement speed. Purification is a great healing option that grants 50% health once upgraded. Rotating between these two skills gives your team amazing survivability. Below is a breakdown of the skills and how to use them, followed by a progression chart.
Purification: heals allies for 25% of their health with a 60-second cooldown. Your primary healing means when HP is dropping low. The best upgrades for Purification are Boosted Essence and Essence Shielding.
- Boosted Essence: this upgrade increases healing to 50%, doubling its effectiveness.
- Essence Shielding: another powerful upgrade that increases damage reduction for allies that were healed by 15%.
Barrier: This skill grants temporary HP for 20 seconds with a 75-second cooldown. Helpful to rotate after Purification healing has taken place. The best upgrades for Barrier are Greater Barrier and Impenetrable.
- Greater Barrier: Upgraded version grants temporary HP if you’re allies are in trouble.
- Impenetrable: This prevents melee attackers from targeting Giatta. It’s her selfish skill and helps keep her up when melee attacks her.
Acceleration: This skill grants a buff for 15 seconds with an 80-second cooldown, increasing move speed and attack speed. This should be your priority skill for the Giatta build because it’s so powerful once upgraded. The best upgrades for Acceleration are Extended Acceleration, Time Shift, and Evade Attacks.
- Extended Acceleration: The best upgrade because it extends duration by 10 seconds, overall 25. You can use Acceleration much more frequently which will help every aspect of your party.
- Time Shift: Another mega upgrade that reduces party members cooldowns by 50%. You can use this pre-emptively, or reactively for a huge DPS gain after large cooldowns have been used.
- Evade Attacks: Grants 15% damage reduction, yet another reason to use this skill.
Reconstruction (Passive): A passive that gives Giatta’s attack small healing. Not that useful considering her active skills do so much damage. The best upgrade for Reconstruction is Overcharge.
- Overcharge: One upgrade that’s great because it grants temporary HP to max health allies. Otherwise, most of the healing has zero effect, and you can use active skills when you need burst.

How to Play Giatta with All Classes

Giatta is all about buffing allies, specifically with Acceleration. Since this has 25 seconds uptime with 80 second downtime, use at the start of combat to get speed, damage, and reduction in cooldowns for allies. Next, you can use the Barrier skill to grant a temporary health shield. Once the shield goes down, you then heal with Purification. This cycle takes about a minute, at which time your Acceleration should be back up, and you can repeat it again.
For Giatta’s survival, you need to have Impenetrable upgrade so melee cannot attack her, and a way to stun, taunt, or immobilize targets. Marius companion can use Binding Roots to lock down a target, while Kai has a great taunt option. These two should be your primary method for keeping her alive.
Another helpful skill is Bear Companion which summons an ally Bear. You can unlock as the Envoy in the Ranger skill tree. Oftentimes, this Bear is such a distraction that Giatta is left alone entirely. If you’re still struggling to keep her from getting attacked, unlock this skill and try to use it for an extra distraction.
Best Companion to Combine with Giatta

Kai is the best companion to combine with Giatta due to his taunting ability. Your party will lack overall raw DPS, but be nearly impossible to kill. You want to start combat with Kai using Daring Leap to jump and taunt targets. He can then use Unbending Defense for damage reduction. From that point, you can use Acceleration to reduce cooldowns, increase speed, and further add more damage reduction. If both skills are upgrade, you’re looking at a 75% damage reduction!
Save Kai’s Fire and Ire skill for a single target taunt when an enemy gets close to Giatta. This will pull them off and keep her from being hit. Carefully look around for range targets hitting her as well.
The secondary choice for Giatta is pairing with Yatzli. She has amazing AOE DPS as a range spellcaster. However, you will need some type of taunt, CC, or immobilization as the main Envoy player. Playing as a Fighter, this combination works really well to balance damage and survivability, but it’s terrible as a Wizard.
Giatta Companion With Envoy
Fighter
The main role of your Fighter when using Giatta is control via taunts, or stuns. You need some mechanism to disrupt incoming attackers. Use Charge to close the gap and start attacking enemies. The Bear Ally can help distract enemies, just make sure to swap out your passive for whatever weapon type you intend to use. Below are some recommendations:
- Ability 1: Into the Fray (taunt and pull someone to you)
- Ability 2: Clear Out (AOE cleave)
- Ability 3: Bear Ally (helpful companion ally)
- Passive 1: Inspiring Triumph (heals companions on kills)
Check our Fighter Build for Avowed.
Ranger
Rangers will want to lock down targets with Tanglefoot, similar to Marius’s immobilization. You should also use Bear Ally for a distraction and Shadowing Beyond for stealth and mobility. Playing at range is helpful to lock down enemies approaching you or Giatta. Below are the recommended skills to unlock:
- Ability 1: Shadowing Beyond (mobility and stealth)
- Ability 2: Tanglefoot (ranged immobilization)
- Ability 3: Bear Ally (helpful companion ally)
- Passive 1: Marksmanship (ranged damage boost)
Check our Ranger Build for Avowed.
Wizard
Wizards will want to play full glass cannon max damage with Giatta in the party. The most important part is Blood Magic, which you can get essence back for HP. With Giatta healing, you should be able to fire off massive damage spells, just make sure Kai is tanking and keep enemies off you. Here are the recommended skills:
- Ability 1: Arcane Veil (survival tool)
- Ability 2: Fireball (AOE damage)
- Ability 3: Minor Missiles (low cooldown spell)
- Passive 1: Blood Magic (can heal HP back for essence)
Check our Wizard Build for Avowed.
How the Anniversary Update Changed Companions
The Anniversary Update introduced several key systems that directly impact companions:
- New Game Plus scaling allows companions to remain viable in extended playthroughs
- Expanded build scaling and customization makes companion builds more flexible
- Custom difficulty settings allow players to fine-tune companion effectiveness
- Improved progression systems and gear scaling make companions stronger in late game
- Increased skill points from 8 to 11
Giatta Companion FAQs (Avowed Anniversary Update)
1. Can I romance Giatta?
No. Your relationship with Giatta is strictly professional/platonic, focused on your shared mission as an Envoy.
2. What is Giatta’s unique exploration ability?
Giatta uses her Spectral Jolt shock to activate Essence Generators and other shock-related puzzle elements. You will see a circular yellowish symbol alongside a lightning bolt. These two synerize together and are usefully found in puzzle quest.
3. Why isn’t Giatta healing me enough?
In the Anniversary Update, her healing was tweaked to scale more heavily with the “Reconstruction” passive. Also, remember that her “Barrier” ability provides Temporary Health (a shield) rather than restoring your actual HP bar.
4. Should I let Giatta keep the soul-research data in her personal quest?
If you keep the soul-research she becomes more confident in her abilities, and her epilogue reflects a breakthrough in treating the Dreamscourge. On the otherhand, if you destroy it or hand it over, Giatta becomes more cautious of animancy, leading to a more “safe” but less revolutionary ending.
5. Is Giatta viable for “Path of the Damned” difficulty?
Giatta is mandatory for Path of the Damned due to her damage reduction, buffs, and healing. WIthout damage reduction skills that she provides, you can expect companions or your Envoy character to get one-shot frequently.
