Nightblade Class Overview
The Nightblade Class is an extremely powerful way to play in The Elder Scrolls Online. Nightblades have many powerful abilities located in their dedicated Class Skill lines for DPS, for Healing, and for Tanking. Nightblades are a great choice for dealing damage, mobility and healing, and are very fun for both PVE and PVP content in ESO. For a more detailed guide be sure to review our ESO Nightblade Class Guide.
Nightblade Heavy Attack Build Sets
Sergeant’s Mail is the best Heavy Attack set in ESO currently, increasing your damage with Heavy Attacks substantially, plus its a base game set that is easily obtained from the Wayrest Sewers dungeon.
We’ve combined this with another Heavy Attack set, Noble Duelist, which buffs all of our Heavy Attacks by a Massive amount and is easy to maintain.
A one-piece Monster set is recommended for most content on this build with an additional boost to Critical Chance such as Slimecraw.
Several Mythic Items can be used on this build, but mu favorite for solo content is the Oakensoul Ring.
Finally, Armor Of The Trainee can also be used for extra Health which is great, especially if playing solo.

Nightblade Heavy Attack Build Alternate Sets
Any set that provides Critical Chance, Weapon and Spell Damage or other offensive stats can be used on this build to provide higher DPS including Trials Sets. A more defensive Monster Set option worth considering is Iceheart for the extra damage shield.

Iceheart

(2 items) When you deal Critical Damage, you have a 20% chance to gain a damage shield that absorbs 5000 damage for 6 seconds. While the damage shield holds, you deal 500 Frost Damage to all enemies within 5 meters of you every 1 second. This effect can occur once every 6 seconds.

Nightblade Heavy Attack Build Attributes
The best attribute for a One Bar Build is Magicka because it increase the effectiveness of our skills. Additionally, increased magicka can increase the size of a shield and healing spells. It’s best to pick one attribute pool and “stack” for optimal damage and resource sustain. Therefore, I recommend 64 magicka, 0 health, and 0 stamina.
64 Magicka
0 Health
0 Stamina
Nightblade Heavy Attack Build Race
The best overall race for a Nightblade one bar heavy attack builds is the High Elf because they have reduced damage while channeling abilities (spell recharge). This passive works with our heavy attack as a main spammable! Moreover, the race has extra magicka resource sustain and weapon and spell damage.
Other good choices are the Khajiit thanks to the extra Critical Damage, Max Stats, and recoveries. However, it’s not a commonly used race for end-game serious PvE DPS. If that’s your goal eventually, use the Dark Elf. If you struggle with resource sustain and want to spam cast spells, choose the Breton.
For more details on all ESO Races and passive bonuses be sure to check out our Full ESO Race Guide.
Nightblade Heavy Attack Build Mundus
The Thief is the best mundus stone for the One Bar Nightblade build because you cannot reach a “cap.” Critical damage (Shadow mundus) and offensive penetration (Lover) both can reach a hardcap where you see no benefit. Most Veteran enemies have 18,200 armor, thus Shadow becomes ineffective if using light armor. Meanwhile, the hardcap for critical damage is 125% which can be reached in trials with medium armor equipped. This is why the Thief is superior as an all around mundus stone, giving you the best benefit regardless of the content.

Increases the Critical Strike rating by 1333
With 7 Divines armor pieces
Increases the Critical Strike rating by 2167

The Lover
Increases Physical and Spell Penetration by 2744
With 7 Divines armor pieces
Increases Physical and Spell Penetration by 4489
Nightblade Heavy Attack Build Food & Drink
The best food for a One Bar Nightblade is Bewitched Sugar Skulls because it increases all three stat pools. Using heavy attacks constantly will give you great magicka resource sustain, therefore three stats is optimal. An alternative to Bewitched Sugar Skulls is Longfin Pasty with Melon Sauce. This is purple quality, cheaper, same buff to three stat pools just cheaper overall.
Below are the ingredients for the Food choices:
- Bewitched Sugar Skulls: Scrib Jelly, Flour, Columbine, Bervez Juice, and Honey.
- Longfin Pasty with Melon Sauce: fish fruit, melon vegetable, greens, and Frost Mirriam.

Bewitched Sugar Skulls
Increase Max Health by 4620, Max Stamina and Magicka by 4250, and Health Recovery by 462 for 2 hours.
These effects are scaled based on your level.
Nightblade Heavy Attack Build Potions
The best armor potions for a Nightblade One Bar build are Essence of Health armor potions using Bugloss, Mountain Flower, Mudcrab Chitin. This potion boost your spell and physical resistance lowering overall damage. Moreover it’s not a buff like Major Resolve, so it stacks and allows you to reach very high resistances. Alternatively, you can use Tri Potions and get an extra on-demand heal and better resource sustain.

ESO Nightblade Class Mastery
Players that reach level 50 in ESO while also fully reaching Rank 50 for their class skill lines and not subclassing can use 2 Class Mastery passives to improve their build. For the Nightblade Heavy Attack build I recommend Above and Beyond to increase your Critical Damage and Healing as well as An Eye for Exploitation to increase your Weapon and Spell Damage and damage reduction based on your target’s missing Health.

Above and Beyond
An assassin is only as good as their reputation.
Effect
Increases your Critical Damage and Healing by 25%. This effect is reduced to 5% against targets with Battle Spirit.
Increases your maximum Critical Damage and Healing by 30%.

An Eye For Exploitation
Every strike, every stab, is a step towards execution.
Effect
Increases your Weapon and Spell Damage by up to 2000, based on your target’s missing Health. Reduces your damage taken by up to 20%, based on your attacker’s missing Health.
Both effects are halved against targets with Battle Spirit.
Companions
If you like playing Solo, this build can benefit greatly from using Companions! While any Companion set up can be helpful, a Companion that can buff our heavy attacks as well as provide additional shielding will be best for this build. I recommend Bastian Hallix for Companion on this build with the set up below. More information on Companions Builds and Skills can be found in our detailed Companion Guides section.
Recommended Gear
- All Light Armor – Quickened Trait
- Restoration Staff
Recommended Skills
- 1. Basalt Barrier
- 2. Searing Weapons
- 3. Skeletal Aegis
- 4. Starfall
- 5. Vanish
- 6 ULT. Unleashed Rage
Additional Skills
The skills below may also be helpful in other situations.
The AMPLIFIER Build is a fantastic build for Bastian Hallix, one of the new Companions available to ESO players starting in the Blackwood Chapter. This build utilizes multiple buffs in order to amplify your own damage and defense potential. This build has tons of utility and will help you progress through many different forms of content!
