Nightblade Class Overview
The Nightblade Class is an extremely powerful way to play in The Elder Scrolls Online. Nightblades have many powerful abilities located in their dedicated Class Skill lines for DPS, for Healing, and for Tanking. Nightblades are a great choice for dealing damage, mobility and healing, and are very fun for both PVE and PVP content in ESO. For a more detailed guide be sure to review our ESO Nightblade Class Guide.
Primary Sets
The recommended items sets for the One Bar Magicka Nightblade focus around amplifying our direct damage as well as Critical Chance and Critical Damage – all essential buffs for the Nightblade class that strengthen it’s overall theme.
First, the Tide-Born Wildstalker set is a powerful crafted option which greatly buffs our Direct Damage vs Monsters. You’ll see that this set buffs every skill that this build uses, making it ideal for increasing our overal DPS.
Next, another easily crafted set that’s great for the Nightblade class is called Order’s Wrath. This set buffs your Critical Damage and Critical Chance, greatly boosting our damage as well as our self-healing, since more damage equals more healing on the Nightblade class!
The Oakensoul Ring mythic is recommended for the One Bar Magicka Nightblade as this gives you many powerful buff effects including Major Sorcery and Major Brutality, Major Prophecy, Major Savagery, Minor Force, Minor Expedition and more! This is the ideal way to run a one-bar build in ESO for most players and greatly simplifies your rotation while also unlocking a lot of extra power!
Finally, we have one open set piece left over which ideally you will use to run a 1-piece Monster Set such as Slimecraw for the increased Critical Chance bonus.

One Bar Magicka Nightblade Alternate Sets
First, the Mother’s Sorrow set is an all around great damage set for all Magicka Builds in The Elder Scrolls Online due to it’s amazing Critical Chance amplifiers as well as its increased Max Magicka. This item set can be obtained fairly early on in the game, does not require any DLC content and can be used all the way up until End Game. Get this set!
Next, Bahraha’s Curse, is a great solo set due to the fact that it increases all of our maximum resources. In addition to that, the “Curse” effect deals AOE magic damage AND heals us for 100% of the damage applied! This set fits in well with the overall theme of the Siphoner Magicka Nightblade, looks amazing and of course is extremely effective for Solo play due to the passive healing.

Best Magicka Nightblade Race
The best race for a Magicka Nightblade for solo content specifically will be Khajiit due to their Feline Ambush passive which greatly increases Critical Damage and Critical Healing, plus overall nice stat and recovery bonuses. For group content, the Critical Damage buff can put you over the Critical Damage cap, so races such as Dark Elf and High Elf are generally preferred, especially for fully optimized groups.
For more details on all ESO Races and passive bonuses be sure to check out our Full ESO Race Guide.
Best One Bar Magicka Nightblade Mundus Stone
The best Mundus Stone for a One Bar Magicka Nightblade build is going to be the Thief Mundus Stone as this boosts your critical chance, helping you do more consistently high damage and healing.

Increases the Critical Strike rating by 1333
With 7 Divines armor pieces
Increases the Critical Strike rating by 2167
One Bar Magicka Nightblade Food/Drink Buff
The best One Bar Magicka NB food option for this build is Clockwork Citrus Filet as this gives you the most important buffs including Max Magicka for increased damage, Magicka Recovery for sustain, and Max Health and Health Recovery for better surival.
If you’d like to same some gold, a cheaper option for this buff in Witchmother’s Potent Brew, proving Max Magicka, Magicka Recovery and Max Health only.

Clockwork Citrus Filet
Increase Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406, Max Magicka by 3080 and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours.
Ingredients: Red Meat, Lemon, Frost Mirriam, Perfect Roe

Witchmother’s potent brew
Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
These effects are scaled based on your level.
Ingredients: Nightshade, Bervez Juice, Rice, Small Game
Magicka Nightblade Potions
Thanks to using the Oakensoul Ring we have all of our important buffs taken care of, allowing you to use any potions you wish. My favorite options include basic Magicka Potions to restore Magicka or Tri-Stat potions for better survival.

Tri-Stat Potions
One Bar Magicka Nightblade Subclassing Skill Lines
This build can take advantage of Subclassing in ESO to improve damage and utility. The Sublcassing skill lines recommended for the Magicka Nightblade are:
- Assassination: Nightblade skill line with great damage skills, powerful Ultimate and great passives
- Siphoning: Nightblade skill line that adds to the bloodmage theme for this build, providing constant healing over time which makes surviving easy.
- Animal Companions: Warden Skill line use this mainly for Utility with great passives and extra damage and debuffs.
One Bar Skills – Subclassing
Main Weapon: INFERNO STAFF – Click on a Skill Name to learn more
- Sap Essence
- Impale or Dampen Magic
- Deep Fissure
- Swallow Soul or Concealed Weapon
- Relentless Focus
- ULT: Soul Harvest or Soul Tether

Main Weapon: INFERNO STAFF – Click on a Skill Name to learn more
- Sap Essence
- Impale or Dampen Magic
- Elemental Drain
- Swallow Soul or Concealed Weapon
- Relentless Focus
- ULT: Soul Harvest or Soul Tether
One Bar Magicka Nightblade Skills Explanation
- Sap Essence – siphoning skill that can hit multiple enemies for increased healing effect.
- Impale – single-target execute skill which can do huge spikes of damage when an enemy goes below 25% health.
- Dampen Magic – this is a strong damage shield skill from the Light Armor skill line which can help save you in challening encounters, giving your passive healing more time to be effective.
- Deep Fissure – the best AOE damage and debuff skill and damage skill when using subclassing in ESO. This Animal Companions skill from the Warden class deals AOE Major Breach and Minor Breach, decreasing enemy armor by almost 10,000!
- Elemental Drain – can be used to debuff a single target with Major Breach, reducing their armor, and also increases your Magicka sustain thanks to the Minor Magickasteal buff.
- Swallow Soul – this is your main spammable damage skill which also gives a strong 10 second heal over time effect.
- Concealed Weapon – use this as your main DPS spammable attack if you do not need the extra healing of Swallow Soul. This skill does more damage while granting increased speed.
- Relentless Focus – huge burst damage ability and strong heal (if in melee range). Can be combined with Soul Harvest for even more damage. Generally, this is better than Merciless Resolve now due to the fact that the bow can proc after 4 light attacks instead of 5.
- ULT: Soul Harvest – your best single target damage ultimate skill, increasing your damage against a single target by 20% for a short duration. Make sure to cast this before using strong damage skills like Relentless Focus or Impale so your next attack does even more damage!
- ULT: Soul Tether – a good defensive Ultimate that can be used to clear out groups of enemies faster. Stuns, deals damage and heals you back.
One Bar Magicka Nightblade Rotation
Start combat by casting either Elemental Drain or Deep Fissure to debuff enemies with Major Breach. Follow this up with your basic rotation of Swallow Soul for damage, followed by Relentless Focus once 4 stacks are built. If possible, cast Soul Harvest first before Relentless Focus, so that this skill deals even more damage. Use Impale when a target is below 25% health.
Combat Tips
Remember to light attack in between casting each ability as this is what will charge your Relentless Focus stacks in order to use the Bow Proc.
If you have your potion ready, try to use your Ultimate first if you are closing to getting it. This way you will get an immediate flood of Ultimate back due to the Nightblade’s Potion passive.

Magicka Nightblade Class Mastery
Players that reach level 50 in ESO while also fully reaching Rank 50 for their class skill lines and not subclassing can use 2 Class Mastery passives to improve their build. For the Nightblade Class, I recommend Above and Beyond which increases your Critical Damage and Critical Healing potential along with An Eye for Exploitation which increases your Weapon and Spell Damage and reduces Damage Taken based on your target’s missing Health.

Above and Beyond
An assassin is only as good as their reputation.
Effect
Increases your Critical Damage and Healing by 25%. This effect is reduced to 5% against targets with Battle Spirit.
Increases your maximum Critical Damage and Healing by 30%.

An Eye For Exploitation
Every strike, every stab, is a step towards execution.
Effect
Increases your Weapon and Spell Damage by up to 2000, based on your target’s missing Health. Reduces your damage taken by up to 20%, based on your attacker’s missing Health.
Both effects are halved against targets with Battle Spirit.
Companions
If you like playing Solo, this build can benefit greatly from using Companions! This Solo build for the Nightblade is good at absorbing damage and also GREAT at self-healing, so if you are going to use a Companion I would suggest a Ranged Damage approach for them. I recommend Mirri Elendis for Companion on this build with the setup below. More information on Companions Builds and Skills can be found in our detailed Companion Guides section.
Recommended Gear
- All Medium Armor – Aggressive Trait
- Companion Bow
Recommended Skills
- 1. Starfall
- 2. Piercing Arrow
- 3. Viper’s Bite
- 4. Sniping Silver
- 5. Vanish
- 6 ULT. Impeccable Shot
Additional Skills
The skills below may also be helpful in other situations.
Full Companion Build: DEADSHOT
The DEADSHOT Build is an easy Bow DPS Set Up for Mirri Elendis, one of the new Companions available to ESO players starting in the Blackwood Chapter. The theme of this build is focused around maxing our Mirri’s Ranged Damage as much as possible! The fact that Mirri’s Ultimate skill is also a Bow type ability makes her perfect for this build, though it can work on Bastian too with some tweaks.
