Category: Best ESO Builds, Best Templar Builds, DPS Builds
The Magicka Templar is one of the coolest and most electric classes in the Elder Scrolls Online. This class has some incredibly unique abilities that feel phenomenal to utilize, as well as some specialized passives and buffs unlike any other class in the game!

Templar Class Overview
The Templar Class is an extremely powerful way to play in The Elder Scrolls Online. Templars have powerful Class Skill lines great for DPS, Healing, Tanking, and playing Solo. Templars are a great choice for any build due to their many great damage and defensive options.
For a more detailed guide, be sure to review our ESO Templar Class Guide located here.
Primary Sets
The Templar has a relatively unique setup, being one of few classes that run 2 trial sets together as apart of its meta! Usually, we want to avoid this because we lose out on a stat line, with each Trial set offering Minor Slayer, a buff that does not stack. Perfected Arms Of Relequen is the strongest pure Single Target set in the game, and any class that has the ability to maintain it effectively, with few exceptions, will see the highest overall DPS by running it.
The second Trial Set, Perfected Mantle Of Siroria, is the best straight damage increase to our abilities out of any set that a Magicka-focused Class has access to.
On the Plar, it is almost always worth running sets that will increase the damage of Radiant Oppression. This is one of the strongest abilities in the game, and is the sole reason the Plar is considered a Meta Class in endgame content currently! Both of these sets can be farmed from the Trial Cloudrest.
This setup is a bit niche and most relevant for Dummy parsing and VERY specific fights, so the most common alternative that you’d use in content is Deadly Strike (a set from Cyrodiil) paired with Perfected Whorl of Depths (a set from Dreadsail Reef). You’d run Deadly in place of Relequen and Whorl instead of Siroria. This will give you a good generic balance that will be good for all fights in PVE content, as opposed to the Rele/Siroria setup which is stronger in specific single target situations!
We will pair both of these setups with The Velothi Ur-Mage’s Amulet Mythic. This is one of the strongest set options that we can run for the Plar for a couple of reasons. When discussing mythics, you typically compare Velothi to the Kilt, where the value of Kilt is mostly found in the 10% Crit Damage it offers. However, on the Plar, we get Crit Damage Passively, making Velothi the winner! On top of this, Radiant Oppression is a 2 second channeled cast, which means that we will be light attacking a bit less often than classes that don’t have long channels. This means that the penalty that comes with Velothi (99% reduced Light Attack Damage) doesn’t affect this class nearly as much!
Since we are running a set that must be bodied, a set that must be front barred, and a Mythic, we will not have room for a Monster set, and will instead have to opt for an Arena Weapon plus 1 Piece Monster. That Monster will almost always be Slimecraw. The Arena Weapon can vary a bit. For pure Single Target Fights, like the dummy, the Maelstrom Greatsword will be the strongest option. For content, in AOE situations, the vMA Inferno will be the strongest option, assuming you can sustain it. If you cannot sustain the vMA Inferno, or are in any burst fight in general, the Master’s Bow is a very common and strong weapon to use for the Plar!

Consumables, Race, Mundus
Race
High Elf: High Elf is our go to option on any Mag Spec! This race offers 2K Max Mag, 258 Weapon and Spell Damage, and an incredibly strong passive for sustain that restores either 625 Mag or Stam depending on which resource is lower, whenever you cast an ability, which can occur once every 6 seconds. Templar sustain can get a little tricky, and this passive alleviates some pressure.
Dark Elf: Dark Elf gives us the next best stat increase, offering 1.9K Max Stam and Mag, as well as 258 Weapon and Spell Damage. One niche benefit to this race is that Dark Elf is also fantastic for Stam Specs as well, as it is tied in Max Spell and Weapon Damage compared to High Elf and offers 2K Max Stam! If you want to have the flexibility to switch between Mag and Stam Specs, this is your go to!
Khajiit: In solo, four man, or even unorganized 12 man content, Khajiit performs well in situations that leave you below the Crit Damage Cap, offering 12% increased Critical damage and 1,000 Max Stam. Crit Damage is a stat far more important than Weapon and Spell Damage, but only to a certain point. You can’t benefit from having any more than 125% Crit Damage, and this is a value that tanks and healers in 12 man content can get you to pretty easily, but this is a really strong race to choose for the sake of solo, duo, or 4 man content.

Food/Drink Buff
- Green Max Mag Food (Firsthold Fruit and Cheese Plate, Thrice Baked Gorapple Pie, Tomato Garlic Chutney): Most potential Damage. These food options provide the highest increase that we can have to our Mag pool, giving us the most potential Damage.
- Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl/Blue Bi Stat (Melon Baked Parmesan Pork/Mistral Banana Bunny Hash/Solitude Salmon Millet Soup): Bi Stat Food that offers Max Health and Mag. This is slightly less Damage than Max Mag foods BUT these options offer a TON of survivability at a very small damage loss. This food is most often used in content.
- Ghastly Eye Bowl: When you’re having sustain issues in content, this should be your go to, as it provides the most Mag (and therefore damage) and the most recovery out of any alternative food option after the ones already mentioned. It does sacrifice health and, therefore, a considerable amount of survivability, however.
- Clockwork Citrus Filet: If you can’t survive with Ghastly but have to solve a sustain problem, this will be the next best option, giving less mag than any of the previous options but offering some health and Mag Recov, creating a happy medium.
Potions
Heroism Pots: This is typically the go to option on the Plar. It’s important to know however, that these will only be the strongest option as long as you know that running heroism pots in a fight will give you a full extra ultimate that you wouldn’t be able to have otherwise. A few major drawbacks however, these potions don’t give any weapon/spell damage or crit buffs, so you have to source Prophecy/Savagery by running the relatively weak DOT, Vampires Bane, as well as source your Sorcery/Brutality buffs by having a DK support run Igneous Weapons, or by running the skill Degeneration. On the dummy, once we throw our last shooting star at about 40% however, we’ll be able to switch to Spell Damage Potions, and cut Degeneration and Vampires Bane from our roto all together, which will allow for more casts of Radiant Oppression. These potions are also very expensive as they require Dragon Rheum, Dragon’s Blood, and Columbine to make.
Tri Sta Potions: If Heroism Potions are too expensive, you may find that Tri Pots will be the next best option for you. The Plar uses a fair amount of Mag and Stam skills, so it’s helpful to have a way to restore Stamina. Much like the Heroism Potions, you would be missing you Major Spell and Crit Chance Buffs, so you would have to source those via Vampires Bane and Igneous Weapons on the tank. You can craft these by combining Columbine, Bugloss, and Mountain Flower.
Spell Damage Potions: If you don’t run Vampires Bane or if there is no source of Major Sorcery/Brutality, you have to run the Alliance Spell/Essence of Spell Power potions to ensure that you have these buffs active. It is more important to have these buffs sourced somewhere than to not have them at all. In fact, in exe, switching to these potions will allow us to drop degen and vamp bane from our roto, and allow for more casts of Radiant Oppression in Exe. You can craft these by combining Corn Flower, Lady’s Smock, and Water Hyacinth, or you can purchase the Alliance Spell Power Potions from Cyrodiil.

Skills Discussion & Rotation
Rotation
- Static Rotation:
- Prebuff: Meteor – Trap
- Opening: Stampede – Power of the Light – Ritual – Solar Barrage – Degen – Vampires Bane – Carve – Jabs – Power of the Light
- Rotation: Power of the Light – Stampede – Ritual – Trap – Solar Barrage – Degen – Power of the Light – Jabs x5 – Power of the Light – Jabs x5
- Execute: At 40%, replace Jabs x5 with 3x Radiant Oppression. At around 15-20%, you’ll go through one more DOT reapplication phase. Below 10%, Beam Only
- Dynamic Rotation
- Pre Prebuff: Degen/Vamp Bane on a dummy. Rest. Dawnbreaker/Channeled Focus/Radiant Aura/Well/Swap Skills
- Prebuff: Meteor – Trap
- Opening: Stampede – Power of the Light – Ritual – Solar Barrage – Degen – Vamp Bane – Carve – Jabs x1 – Power of the Light
- Execute:
- Start using Beam at 40%. At this point, only reapply Degen/Vamp Bane if you don’t have a Spell Damage Pot Active
- Don’t cast ritual below 30%
- No more Dots except Power of the Light below 15%
- Nothing but Beam below 10%
Notes
- Power of the Light: This skill does a small amount of damage initially on application and a massive explosion of damage on expiration. However, if we reapply the skill before the timer runs out, we miss the majority of the damage that this skill does. For this reason, we need to make sure that we are allowing Power of the Light to fully expire.
- Maintaining Set Procs: Even though this set up is pretty easy to maintain so long as we are consistently light attack weaving well, if you don’t want to go through the trouble of tracking Siroria, make sure that you don’t cast more than 3 skills on your backbar in a row.
- Abnormal Weaving Skills: On this class, this concept applies to Puncturing Sweeps, Radiant Oppression, and Stampede. Puncturing Sweeps weaves a lot like Frags on the Sorc, mimicking the .8 second cast time. This means that the skill can be weaved within the typical one second GCD, but that you have to really hold off on queuing your light attack until right at the end of the skill.
- Radiant Oppression works a similar way, but rather, having a cast time of 1.8 seconds. I found that the best time to que the Light Attack for this skill is right when you see the timer hit .3 seconds.
- Timer Management: In a perfect world, a rotation should be built in a way that allows you to reapply a skill as soon as it fully expires. However, this is impossible to do with the Static Rotation, and even not very possible with the Dynamic Rotation. Because we can’t Bar Swap off of skills like Jabs or Beam, we have to make smart decisions regarding which skills we want to either reapply early, or let fall off for a couple of seconds, until a skill on the front bar that we can bar swap off of is ready to be reapplied.
- Niche Damage Dealing Elements: To start, on the Templar, we can stop casting Degeneration and Vampires Bane around 35 to 40% in the fight, if we swap potions. I know this might sound complicated, but it’s pretty easy to swap from Herosim Pots to Alliance Spell Pots in the middle of a beam! You have two full seconds to do so! If you don’t opt to do this, you will have to keep up Degeneration and Vampires Bane until the end of the fight, with the last cast of each skill taking place between 10 to 15%.
