The INVINCIBLE MAGE Build uses exactly ZERO class skills for a unique and off-meta approach to combat in ESO! With a simple, one bar set up and no trials gear needed this build works great on ANY class!!
Primary Sets
This build is all about easy, Heavy Attack damage. Because of this, every set we use buffs our Heavy Attack damage through the roof!
First, the Sergeant’s Mail set is undoubtedly the strongest Heavy Attack set in the game in terms of raw damage output. Keep in mind though that this effect has a stacking mechanic and you must maintain all 4 stacks in order to receive the highest damage.
Next, the Grave Inevitability set provides the powerful Major Force buff for a whopping 20 percent bonus Critical Damage! Even better, the set also provides the Minor Force buff for free to nearby group members.
The Oakensoul Ring is the new go to Mythic Item that packs a punch for one bar builds. delivering many powerful Major and Minor buffs, and in this case the Heavy Attack buff “Empower.”
Finally, a one piece Monster Set is perfect for adding some extra stats to this build. A great option is Slimecraw for the additional Critical Chance.

Consumables, Race, Mundus
Race
My favorite race for this build is High Elf thanks to the extra spell damage, max magicka and Spell Recharge passive. Khajiit and Dark Elf are also strong choices. Breton is fine, though the extra cost reduction is often wasted on a Heavy Attack build like this one. For more details on all ESO Races and passive bonuses be sure to check out our Full ESO Race Guide.
Mundus
The Thief

The Thief
Increases the Critical Strike rating by 1333
With 7 Divines armor pieces
Increases the Critical Strike rating by 2167
Food/Drink Buff
Bewitched Sugar Skulls

Bewitched Sugar Skulls
Increase Max Health by 4620, Max Stamina and Magicka by 4250, and Health Recovery by 462 for 2 hours.
These effects are scaled based on your level.

- Unstable Wall Of Elements

Skills Discussion & Rotation
Rotation
Cast Razor Caltrops, Mystic Orb and Unstable Wall Of Elements to start. Next Alternate Heavy Attacks with Dampen Magic for protection. As your DOT’s begin to fade, recast them alternating with Heavy Attacks like this: Unstable Wall -> Heavy Attack / Mystic Orb -> Heavy Attack / Caltrops -> Heavy Attack.
Notes
Use Dampen Magic in between Heavy Attacks if you are taking too much damage.
Passive Skills
Class Passives (depends on your class choice, below is what I use for Sorcerer)

Armor Passives
Guild Passives

Companions
If you like playing Solo, this build can benefit greatly from using Companions! This Solo build will benefit the most from the additional healing and defensive options a tank-focused Companion can offer, so if you are going to use a Companion I would suggest a full tank build for them. I recommend Bastian Hallix for Companion on this build with the setup below. More information on Companions Builds and Skills can be found in our detailed Companion Guides section.
Recommended Gear
- All Heavy Armor – Mixed Vigorous and Quickened Traits
- One Handed Weapon and Shield
Recommended Skills
1. Provoke
4. Kindle
5. On Guard
6 ULT. Unleashed Rage
Additional Skills
The skills below may also be helpful in other situations such as trash pulls.

The Guardian Drake is a strong option for Bastian Hallix as a Tank. Bastian is one of the new Companions available to ESO players starting in the Blackwood Chapter. The theme of this build is focused around Self-Healing and Survival, allowing Bastian to keep himself alive against many tough opponents and even bosses with very little help from others.
