Arcanist Class Overview
The Arcanist Class is an extremely powerful way to play in The Elder Scrolls Online. Arcanists have many similarities with other classes in ESO such as dedicated Class Skill lines for DPS, for Healing, and for Tanking. Arcanists are also extremely unique in that they make use of a powerful new game mechanic called Crux. For a more detailed guide be sure to review our ESO Arcanist Class Guide located here.
The Arcanist class is available to players who have purchased the Necrom Chapter. You can also buy the class directly for 1,500 Crowns (roughly $15). Therefore, this is not a base game class and will require you to spend extra money to unlock. However, it is worth it for serious ESO players as it remains one of the best classes overall!
Arcanist Healer Primary Sets
First, the Perfected Pillager’s Profit set, found in the Veteran Dreadsail Reef Trial, is a staple for healers in endgame content. When you cast an Ultimate, a portion of the Ultimate cost is distributed to your group members as Ultimate generation over 10s. This allows DPS and other support players to cast their Ultimates more frequently, greatly increasing buff and debuff uptimes as well as damage output. Remember that you can also get the non-Perfected version of this set by running the Trial in Normal —129 Magicka Recovery is all you will miss out on. If you plan on playing healing or support builds at all in ESO, this is a set you can’t skip on.
Next, Reawakened Hierophant, found in the Infinite Archive, is a must-have that only Arcanists can wear. It grants buffs to your group members based on the number of Crux you have: 1 gives a damage shield for extra tankiness; 2 give Minor Heroism for more Ultimate generation; and 3 give Major Protection reducing damage taken by 10%. All these are extremely valuable, and the set is extremely easy to farm, solo or duo, as the Infinite Archive is part of the base game: repeating the first 2 Arcs is faster than running a Dungeon or a Trial, and you won’t encounter difficult enemies.
For our Monster Set, Ozezan the Inferno provides an Armor buff when you overheal a target as well as Minor Vitality when healing, greatly increasing survivability of your group. It can be acquired by defeating the last boss of the Veteran Scrivener’s Hall Dungeon.
Our necklace, Pearls of Ehlnofey, is a mythic from the Markarth DLC. The leads can easily be acquired by completing base game content. The item grants you Ultimate for using healing abilities while your Magicka pool is below 50%. This is an essential mythic for Healers and it perfectly complements Pillager’s Profit.
Lastly, we use 1 piece of the Armor of the Trainee because we have a spare slot and the extra 1454 Maximum Health is always welcome in difficult content.

Arcanist Healer Alternate Sets
For alternatives, and if you’re not quite ready for trials yet or you’re missing some DLCs, you can still use Reawakened Hierophant. Easier to farm than Dungeon sets, it’s a versatile option that remains relevant throughout your journey to endgame content, so it’s definitely a worthwhile investment of your time.
This combines well with Combat Physician from Wayrest Sewers I and II. The set grants targets a damage shield when you critically heal them. This is something you can also use in endgame and that can be useful when figuring out mechanics or clearing very difficult content such as Hard-Mode Trials.
If you’re looking for alternative Monster Sets, Symphony of Blades, from Depths of Malatar, is a staple for healing and provides a lot of resource sustain to your group. Otherwise, Sentinel Of Rkugamz, from Dark Shade Caverns, is a great base game option: it provides a flat buff to your healing and also heals and gives resources back.
Lastly, you can use the (Perfected) Grand Rejuvenation Restoration Staff from the Dragonstar Arena to replace the mythic and 1-pc Trainee. If you don’t have the staff collected, simply use a Reawakened Hierophant Restoration Staff, making the set active on both bars.

Best Arcanist Healer Attributes
The most important attribute for a Arcanist Healer is Magicka. Players want to stack as much magicka as possible to help with the power of your spells, increase size of damage shield, and gives you more resources until you run out of magicka. Most players should be at least 18,000 health if not 22,000 health in Veteran Dungeons or Trials. Therefore, you may need to adjust attributes or a health glyph as you progress and do more hardcore PvE content. Until then, use 64 attributes into magicka, 0 for health, and 0 for stamina.
64 Magicka
0 Health
0 Stamina
Best Arcanist Healer Race
Many healers run into the same problem: not having enough Magicka or Magicka Recovery. To help deal with these common healer issues, Breton makes the most sense. Breton Passives will reduce the cost of our healing skills and increase Magicka Recovery making this Race the best overall choice. If you are more experienced and know how to tackle these problems, you can run a Khajiit to maximize critical healing or Argonian for the bonus to healing done.
In optimized trial groups, you will have a lot of buffs greatly increasing your Weapon and Spell damage, making Dark Elf and High Elf the best races for healing.
Finally, since many groups favor sets that revolve around casting ultimates —such as Pearls of Ehlnofey, Pillager’s Profit, Master Architect, Saxhleel Champion and Nazaray— playing a Nord can prove to be an excellent option for healers.
For more details on all ESO Races and passive bonuses be sure to check out our Full ESO Race Guide.
Best Arcanist Healer Mundus
The best Mundus Stone for a healer is the Apprentice due to the increase in Spell Damage. This helps with your overall healing power and damage. Some other choices are below:
- Atronach: increase magicka recovery per. Use this if you still struggle with resource sustain.
- Ritual: increase healing effectiveness. Can use if you’re purely healing doing no damage.
- Thief: increases your critical strike chance. This can be used if you want damage and healing bonus
- Mage: increases your max magicka pool. Use this if an item set scales off of max magicka.
Best Arcanist Healer Food & Drink Buff
The best consumable buff for the Arcanist Healer build is Clockwork Citrus Filet. This buff grants max health, health recovery, max magicka, and magicka recovery. It gives you everything you need to resource sustain with extra health for survival. An alternative is Witchmother’s Potent Brew. This is a cheaper and easy to find on Guild Traders version of Clockwork Citrus Filet. Not as powerful, but affordable!

Clockwork Citrus Filet
Increase Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406, Max Magicka by 3080 and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours.
Ingredients: Red Meat, Lemon, Frost Mirriam, Perfect Roe

Witchmother’s potent brew
Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
These effects are scaled based on your level.
Ingredients: Nightshade, Bervez Juice, Rice, Small Game
Best Arcanist Healer Potions
The best potions for the Arcanist Healer build are Spell Power Potions. These potions grant you spell power, and spell critical buff. That helps free up skills on your bar and consume potions on cooldown to keep 100% uptime on these buffs. With the Medicinal Use passive in the alchemy skill tree, you can increase the duration of your potions effects. Essentially, the duration last 47.5 seconds with a cooldown of 45 seconds. Therefore, this passive becomes critical to obtain to keep higher uptime on buffs.

Skills Discussion & Rotation
Buffs
Your primary focus on this Arcanist Healer build is to make sure everyone in your group stays alive by stacking damage shields and healing-over-time. This builds provides a lot of valuable buffs and debuffs, enhancing your group’s damage output and survivability. Make sure to recast skills regularly for high uptimes.
Focus on building Ultimate fast by maintaining your Magicka pool below 50% with the Pearls of Ehlnofey. This strategy ensures high uptimes of Major Force from your Ultimate, while also providing significant Ultimate-generation to the rest of your group through the Pillager’s Profit set, greatly enhancing overall damage output. You can also cast a Crux-consuming skill every 8s to maximize Ultimate-generation though the Implacable Outcome passive.
Rotation
Backup Bar: Energy Orb → Echoing Vigor→ Zenas’ Empowering Disc → Elemental Blockade
Main Bar: Combat Prayer → Rune of the Colorless Pool → Illustrious Healing → Chakram of Destiny → Radiating Regeneration
Notes
- Spiteward of the Lucid Mind is a cheap Crux-consumer that enhances self-survivability, especially during encounter mechanics that require leaving your AOE heals in order to reposition or kite. Additionally, it gives you control over the bonus provided by the Reawakened Hierophant set.
- As an Arcanist Healer, there are many ways to build Crux, yet limited ways to spend them. Hence risking underutilizing some of the class passives. An alternative to Spiteward of the Lucid Mind is to rearrange your Skill Bars and slot Cascading Fortune on your Main Bar: it can be a very powerful burst heal over time and resource sustain tool, but its need for aiming can make it clunky in content and you will rarely get to use it for its full 4.5s duration.
- Debuff as many enemies as possible using Rune of the Colorless Pool, only after your Tank is done with Crowd Control (CC) as you risk stunning them and giving them CC Immunity.
- The Aggressive Horn Ultimate gives a massive buff, Major Force, which increases your group’s critical damage by a further 20%. It’s important to announce when you use it so that other support players can save their Warhorns until yours expires for continuous uptime on the damage boost.
- Glyphic of the Tides and Gibbering Shelter are also good Ultimates to slot on your Front Bar instead of Replenishing Barrier.
- If you would rather use Tri-Pots instead of Spell Power Potions, you can slot Inner Light instead of Radiating Regeneration and Recuperative Treatise instead of Spiteward of the Lucid Mind.
- Spiteward of the Lucid Mind is your selfish survivability skill and Crux-consumer, it can be replaced for whatever utility you lack: Bone Surge for a Synergy and a shield, Crushing Shock for a ranged-interrupt, Evolving Runemend to build Crux faster, Overflowing Altar for Minor Lifesteal, etc.
