While embarking on an epic journey through the realms of Dragon’s Dogma 2, one of the pivotal aspects that shapes your adventure is the choice of race. Capcom, through official press releases, showcases, and their website, has unveiled a rather surprising, streamlined amount of races that are intricately tied to distinct locations within the game. As we eagerly anticipate the launch, let’s delve into the lore and characteristics of the three primary races.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Races Explained
From both the official press release, showcase, and on their website, Capcom has announced and confirmed that at launch there are 3 races present within Dragon’s Dogma 2 which are tied to 3 main locations.
Humans, predominantly populate the Kingdom of Vermund.
Beastren, which predominantly populates the nation of Battahl.
Elves are elusive and mainly reside in an isolated settlement known as Sacred Arbor.
Let’s dive more in-depth into what we know about each race and location.
Humans

Humans hail from the resplendent kingdom of Vermund, built on a lush green land with a fortified city at its heart. Vermund is the scene of many conspiracies to seize the throne, where the current ruler Queen Regent Disa supports a false Arisen upon the throne.
Beastren

A new race, the Beastren, are a Leonid fantasy race similar to feline fantasy races found in other franchises such as the Khajiit race of the Elder Scrolls series. The Beastren tend to have a more muscular and bulky appearance than some of the other slender feline races as they seem to be modeled after real world Lions from the African savannah. They hail from the nation of Battahl, a land of steep canyons that house ancient ruins and hand-carved cities with a unique culture all their own.
Elves

We know that Elves are a race that can be encountered in the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 in a remote village called the Sacred Arbor and that the Elvish language features quite prominently in Elvish settlements. It is a particularly useful skill for your prime sidekick Pawns to learn in order to translate for you so that you can undertake unique quests offered by the Elves.
However, as you see below, there exist options within the Character Creator that allow you to edit the details of a human’s ear to give the appearance of Elvish ancestry.
Playable Races In Dragon’s Dogma 2

The only options for playable races in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are Human and Beastren.
Sorry for all those who wanted to play other races out there, but at least we know that elves will be potential pawns/followers so in combination with the character creation options and pawn choices, you could still live your elvish adventuring party fantasy.
Playable Races for Pawns

As for the main Pawn in the game we know that they are equally bound by the rules of the character creator, thus only Human or Beastren race options will exist for them, remember from above however that you could make your Human Pawn look elvish.
As for supporting pawn choices it was confirmed in the Capcom Showcase that during certain missions its possible to recruit Elvish followers such as the twins Glyndwr, and Doireann into your party.
