This guide has been updated for Enshrouded Update 8, Forging the Path. Expect many combat changes, including heavy attacks, weapon abilities (ultimate), and revamped skill tree. Moreover, the gear like armor and accessories can now be upgraded, giving you even more bonuses and options. Below we go through the entire updated build giving you tips and selections to make the Assassin build shine in 2026.
Enshrouded Dagger Build Overview

The Dagger build in Enshrouded uses Dexterity as its core attribute. Dexterity uniquely influences both dagger and bow damage. The strength of the Dagger build is the synergy between bow and daggers but also sneak, poison damage, and stuns.
Your primary damage comes from melee attacks with daggers. You also invest into backstab skills which increase your damage if you attack directly behind a target. Often times, this can be hard to do in reality. This is where the skills Kick and Begone come into play. They both allow you to control (stun) a target, and quickly move to the rear for an incredible damage boost. Players who are interested in the dagger playstyle must factor in a heavy reliance on positioning rather than simply button mashing facing an enemy.
For survivability, you want to select weapons with health leech, two Gemini rings (health leech), and the Battle Heal skill. This gives you constant passive healing allowing you to stay in melee range without constantly being killed. Quick Reflexes skill helps with this as well, allowing you to quickly block and parry attacks, but that skill is determined by players reaction times and isn’t always easy to execute.
The sneak attack skill and animation is still lack luster in Enshrouded. Rarely can you get this to work properly. We still recommend the skill, but realise you need tall grass, an unsuspecting enemy, which rarely happens. At the current max level of 45, the Dagger build is a fun way to play Enshrouded. While the Sneak mechanic isn’t perfectly designed, we highly recommend this build for Rogue lovers in other action or RPG games.

- Melee Weapon: Crystal Knives

Attributes Distribution and Optimization – Dagger

In Update 8 of Enshrouded, you will now find that armor and rings have additional bonuses for skills. You can increase Dexterity via the Ranger skill, which can be boosted by selecting individual gear. This is a change from previous Enshrouded versions and is a factor to maximizing your overall stats.
Additionally, Update 7 overhauled food, so that too will no longer increase your max stats, but rather damage to range, melee, or magic. The result your primary stat (DEX) is harder to come by and skills that scale in effectiveness based on stats will be weaker.
The Dagger build stacks as much Dexterity as possible to increase overall dagger and bow damage. You also get a massive boost in dagger damage from food and armor. Your goal is to have enough stamina sustain to constantly dodge or blink, swing attacks, double jump, and create space. At first, this can be tricky, but end-game you have many more tools like Comfort level, food, gear, etc.
Your second concern is overall health because around 1,100 is one-shot territory. You can increase your health with food and armor choices, but also spending a lot of skill points in the tank tree to reach Thicked Skinned. Chicken Soup is used as a food which sacrifices roughly 100 health for 6% dagger damage. If you find your health too low, swap your legs to a tank set with high HP and food to max HP and sacrifice damage. Last resort is respec some damage or utility skills and go deep into the tank line more HP.
Melee (includes daggers) critical chance is also important. Battle Heal skill will give back 5% health every time you critical strike. Plus, you’ll have high damage when you critical because of Expose Weakness skill that increases damage by 25% for three seconds. Thus, you want to open up with a stun, critical, and burst from there to optimize your damage.
In summary, focus on Dexterity attribute, Endurance if you need sustain, and Constitution. The Dessert Stomach passive skill helps overall because you gain an extra food slot used for recovery or niche stats. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your HP levels depending on how much you’re dying.
Dagger Build Skill Progression (Level 1-45)

Your goal is to increase dagger damage, dexterity, mobility, and backstab damage. Our progression below outlines what to take in which order at max skill points. Below that, we explain certain skills that are critical for you to understand.
Enshrouded skills are currently capped at 184 skill points at max level 45 (Update 8). The final zone is Veilwater Basin, and in each zone you can collect additional skill points from Shroud Root and Elixir Wells. Therefore, you should look to clear each zone of these before progressing alongside your level increase for max skill points.
Best Dagger Skills Explained
- Sneak Attack / Merciless Attack: these two mechanics are special attacks. Sneak Attack isn’t that useful currently because it requires you to be in tall grass rather than just crouching behind someone. Merciless Attack is great because you fill up stun bars and get a free attack on an enemy. Once you get Kick, you can hold block and attack to trigger Kick attack which can sometimes automatically stun a target. Then Merciless Attack for big free damage. If you find yourself doing this frequently, respec out of a weaker skill and take Finesse and Blood Warrior. This will give you health orbs upon a kill.
- Battle Health: critical hit and get back 5% health. You can stack this health leech type of bonus with Gemini Rings and health leech on weapons. Playing with multiple sources of incoming health helps you avoid constant deaths because you missed a block or a dodge.
- Strategic Maneuver: A movement that grants iframes, giving you split second of invincibility.
- Dagger Master / Venomous Blades: these two skills increase your damage. Dagger Master gives a 15% damage increase while Venomous Blades adds a damage over time (DOT) poison. This poison can also be applied via a Gem, and having both the gem and this skill gives you a constant source of damage on a target.
- Begone / Kick: Begone is an on demand stun that cost mana, but knocks target senseless for two seconds. This is perfect to get the rear and do damage. Kick is also useful because it scales on dexterity and fills up stun bar. Once the enemy is stunned, you can get flank or use a merciless attack if they are low HP. Always stun lock single targets to get the rare in take advantage of increased damage.
- Ranger / Dessert Stomach: Ranger helps increase your overall stats and critical chance while Dessert Stomach adds an extra food slot. These two skills are vital for the highest stat pool and most damage possible.
- Veteran / Expose Weakness: The Veteran skill increase your critical chance with melee weapons by 10% while Expose Weakness gives you 25% more damage for 3 seconds after a critical strike. These two combine for the highest damage boost overall and Veteran does work with daggers.
Best Dagger Armor, Accessories, and Sets

| Slot | Equipment | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Head | Sunpiercer Helmet | +13% Melee Critical Strike Chance +15% Critical Strike Damage 2 Min Wet Reduction +1 Barbarian’s Path |
| Upper Body | Golden Bulwark Chest Plate | +360 Health +9 Health Regen 3 Min Wet Reduction +1 Heavy Plates |
| Arms | Bloodfeather Gloves | +27% Dagger Damage +13% Backstabbing Damage 1:30 Min Wet Reduction +1 Dagger Mastery |
| Lower Body | Bloodfeather Pants | +54 Mana +30% Sneak Speed 2m Wet Reduction +1 Cutthroat |
| Feet | Bloodfeather Shoes | +12 Mana Regen +18 Stam Regen 1:30 Min Wet Reduction +1 Silent Stride |
| Ring 1 | Gemini Ring (or Ring of the Ancients) | +30 Health +5% Health Leech +5% Damage against Fell +1 Well Rested +3 Health Regeneration +1 Inner Fires (+2 time in shroud |
| Ring 2 | Gemini Ring (or Ring of the Ancients) | +30 Health +5% Health Leech +5% Damage against Fell +1 Well Rested +3 Health Regeneration +1 Inner Fires (+2 time in shroud |
The best armor set for the Dagger build is Bloodfeather because it directly boosts dagger damage, backstab damage and Sneak speed. We recommend mixing in Sunpiercer Helmet and Golden Bulwark Chest for the boosts to Health and Melee Critical Strike Chance. Remember that sets in Enshrouded have no additional bonus for using all 5 pieces, so mixing and matching is best to optimize your build.
For the Dagger build, you want item sets that boost dagger damage > critically striking > backstab damage > sneak damage. Critical chance is the best stat because it applies to both range and melee attacks in terms of damage output. Therefore, the sets you choose will determine mainly head and glove choices. Also, look for weapons that have health leech if you struggle with survival.
Early Game
When you start the game, you can craft the basic Rags from your manual crafting screen at level 3. From here, look to get a set of Fur armor at level 5 from the Blacksmith. At level 8, you can craft the Scout armor from the Hunter Survivor. Beyond the Scout, crafted at the Hunter, you will have multiple options in different level ranges. Here’s a general loadout you should follow:
- Level 3: Rags (Manual Crafting)
- Level 5: Fur (Blacksmith)
- Level 8: Scout (Hunter)
- Level 13: Ranger (Hunter)
As a general rule, your chest doesn’t offer much offensive bonuses thus you can wear “heavy” and gain lots of HP. Your gloves and head is where your damage sources come from while boots and legs are for regeneration and other statuses. Therefore, look to take a chest piece from the blacksmith, and head and gloves from Hunter. You can even take more mana generating in legs and boots from Alchemist, or go for more health regeneration via Blacksmith. Either way, look at the gloves and head to optimize for critical.

If you can, get two Gemini Rings from the Fell Banshee in the Moth’s Grove area due north from the start. These help massively with health and survival.
Mid Game
After you’ve reached midgame, look to acquire these crafting sets:
- Level 18: Hunter (not the best bonuses)
- Level 23: Assassin (crafted)
- Level 33: Frostbite Slasher (crafted)
You will also start finding “named” item sets that are usually +2 levels above. For instance, level 25 areas have the “Eagle Eye” set. This is a better version of Deadeye and can carry you to max level gear, at level 33. However, it’s often time not worth spending hours and hours getting this gear just to move off of it in a few hours of gameplay. Therefore, collect, store but don’t sweat the minor bonuses from crafting gear.
If your survivability is good, swap rings to Ring of the Ancients. This ring gives stat bonus of +1 to all, which increases your damage and self-healing. This is one of the only rings that can do so. You can find it from the boss in Northern area called the Pike or via chest in Kindlewastes.
Best-in-Slot Dagger Build Gear Setup
For the best gear setup for an Dagger, use this armor:
- Head: Sunpiercer Helmet (Blacksmith)
- Chest: Golden Bulwark Chest Plate (Blacksmith)
- Arms: Bloodfeather Gloves (Hunter)
- Lower Body: Bloodfeather Pants (Blacksmith)
- Feet: Bloodfeather Shoes (Hunter)
- Rings: 2x Gemini Ring (Moth’s Grove)
Best Dagger Weapons

| Item | Equipment | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Primary (Daggers) | Crystal Knives | 5% Venomous Blade Vicious: 20% Backstab Damage 5% Health leech 1 Renewal Vicious: 20% Backstab Damage |
| Secondary (Bow) | Ignited Bow (Burning Gem) | 5% Precise +10% Fire Damage +10% Fire Damage Reaping +10% Fire Damage |
| Wand (Mana Regen) | Mythic Wand (Eye of Storm Gem) | +20% Magic Shock Damage 5% Mana Leech +20% Magic Shock Damage 5% Crit Strike Chance 5% Crit Strike Chance |
| Staff (Healing) | Staff of the Moor | 5% Health Leech +10% Shroud Damage 5% Mana Leech +10% Shroud Damage 5% Stamina Leech |
| Shield | Prismatic Ward | 17 Block 268 Parry Power +7 Mana Regen +10% Ice Resistance +10 Shock Resistance |
The Crystal Knives are the best overall daggers due to the Vicious, Venomous Blades, and health leech rolls. Since daggers attack so fast, you are more likely to trigger Venomous Blades often. Even with a low chance of 5%, every swing adds up to almost always proc this effect.
The Life Leech is also a great bonus on these weapons and pairs well with the Gemini Ring, which also has 7% chance. Instead of using two Gemini Rings, you can swap to one Ring of the Ancient and gain an additional 5% melee damage. This gives you a well-balanced build that not only does great damage, but also has built-in healing that stacks with the skill Battle Heal and other gear options.
A weapons trick is to open up with a Shrouded Arrow Bow attack using the Ignited Bow with a Gem of Burning. This will get two DOTs rolling on the target. As you swap, you can then have Gem of Toxic Betrayal on your daggers giving you a third DOT, melting the enemies HP.
How to get Weapons

Most weapons are found randomly by killing bosses or looting chest. You cannot craft end game two-handed weapons for the Dagger build. Thus, you should spend some time grinding in your current location and marking maps. If you take a look at the picture above, you can find gold chest and mark them which give the highest chance of legendary weapon drops.
Therefore, you want to login, setup flame altars near these chest, and make a rotation killing bosses, opening gold chest, and finding that perfect weapon with your ideal trait. You can always go with health leech which is effective on every build and playstyle. Note, in update 7, chest will take a long time to respawn and the log out and log in trick will not work. Thus, do a sweep of the chest locations then do other gameplay before checking some hours later.
Early Game Options
At the start of the game, you can manually craft daggers, bows, and arrows. You may need to use a basic weapon loadout until you start killing bosses at Shroud Roots and in the open world. Look to keep the same weapon loadout and upgrade with set bonuses as you find them.
Mid Game Upgrades
At the mid point in Enshrouded, look for Makeshift Daggers and Forest Longbow. These two weapons will have set bonuses that you can improve with some of your currency. Then, you will continue to get better and more powerful weapons and set bonuses. Any “leech” stamina or health is priority because if you have resources, you can survive and kill any target.
Best Arrows

Plan on upgrading from basic wooden arrows or copper arrows as eventually you should carry four elemental arrows on you at all times for the optimal Dagger build in Enshrouded, and here’s why:
- Stun Arrow: these arrow fill up the stun bar of enemies (grey at top). It’s critical for beating the toughest bosses, particularly in the last zone where the Fell Dragon is your opponent. You can spam these, stun the boss, and get free damage. Stun Arrows work on random critters too, so bring some for every engagement, whether you need crowd control or just to create some space between you and your enemies.
- Explosive Arrow (I, II, III): The optimal big damage arrows that require skills like Ricochet and Chain Reaction. These skills and arrows add massive damage both AOE and single target. However, it can get very old crafting these so save for oh crap moments or boss kills.
- Shroud Arrow: a secondary source of Damage Over Time (DOT) comes from Shroud Arrows. Shot this at a target, or at its feet for ticking damage over time.
- Flare Arrow: the Flare Arrow is mainly for utility when you need to see far ahead and don’t want to throw your torch into oblivion.
- Eternal Frost: gives you a decent damage arrow that can be used forever! Found in Hermit Camp which the Bard gives you a quest called Eternally Piercing.
Sneak Attack and Backstab

There are three mechanics that you must understand as a Dagger build in Enshrouded: Sneak Attack, Merciless Attack, and Backstab. The first is Sneak attack which is unlocked in the center yellow skill tree. It is strictly melee-based. To execute it, you must successfully sneak up completely undetected behind an enemy and press the interact key, typically [E], when prompted; success triggers a quick animation and delivers an massive amount of damage based on your sneak attack multiplier (found in attribute section). The critical thing is making sure you’re sneaking directly behind the target, and try to use tall grass when in the open field to execute a sneak attack.

The next concept is Merciless Attack, which triggers once the target’s stun bar is filled. You’ll fill the stun bar when attacking a blocking enemy. The second way is to use the Kick skill and manually fill up their stun bar. Once it’s filled, you get a visual cue [E] which engages the Merciless Attack for extra damage.
Finally, the third and most important mechanic is Backstab damage, a positional bonus that you can utilize even after combat has fully engaged. To trigger this bonus, you must strike the enemy directly from behind with any attack type, whether it’s a standard swing, an arrow, or a spell. You will know you’ve successfully landed it when a quick, small light blue outline pop-up appears next to the enemy’s health bar, indicating an increase in damage based on your overall attributes and gear.
Best Dagger Consumables and Buffs

| Food | Type | Duration | Stats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taro Root Curry | Rare (Vegetable) | 55 min | +21% Ranged Damage +21% Dagger Damage +60 Mana |
| Chicken Soup | Uncommon (Meat) | 40 min | +6% Ranged Damage +6% Dagger Damage +160 Health |
| Strawberry Milkshake | Rare (Fruit) | 50 min | +18 Health Regeneration +12 Stamina Regeneration |
| Sweet Mokka | Uncommon (Liquid) | 55 min | +30 Stamina +30 Stamina Regeneration +6% Ranged Damage +6% Dagger Damage |
The best consumables for the Dagger build are Taro Root Curry, Chicken Soup, Sweet Mokka, and Strawberry Milkshake. Your raw damage comes from dagger damage food, and you can stack health and stamina regeneration foods together. Also, your health food, chicken soup, has lower health than others, but another 6% dagger damage, thus making it a better choice.
Early in the game, you may want to consume a recovery food in place of the endurance food until you unlock the Milkshake at higher levels. With the extra food slot from the Dessert Stomach skill, these consumables are critical for the Ranger build or any Bow Build, which relies heavily on Dexterity and Intelligence to deal massive damage.
Best Dagger Gems

The best gem for the Dagger build is Gem of Toxic Betrayal because landing a backstab on an enemy applies poison damage. This won’t burst damage an enemy, but it fits the theme and passive bonuses. An alternative choice is Gem of Bloodlust which spawns a health orb when defeating an enemy. If you don’t have enough survivability, focus on Bloodlust.
You can stack multiple gem effects with different weapons. For instance, use a bow with the Gem of Burning and shoot a Shroud Arrow at the target. If they are in the cloud, you’ll have one DOT with the Burning status effect applies a second. Move it and attack from the back to get a third via Toxic Betrayal for a huge damage boost.
Rotation and Combat Tips for Dagger
The best way to open up in combat is from crouch, and the rear. Use a bow if you cannot reliably sneak up and kill the target with Sneak Attack (likely). Attack with a bow that has the gem of burning to trigger an extra DOT. If you have shroud arrows, use those to deal another DOT. As the enemy closes the distance, either use Kick or Begone to stun the target. Get to the rare and attack for big damage.
This is the essence of the Dagger gameplay loop. Opener with DOTs, stuns, flank, kill. You will need to constantly Blink and create space after 2-3 dagger swings to avoid incoming damage. You should never be remaining stationary with this build. If you’re not attacking or blinking, you should be using a stun. If not, you’re probably doing something wrong.
For healing, use a Staff when your mana is high after 2-3 Blinks away from the target. Use Heal Channel spell and hold it down for heals over time. Bandages and Potions are your other healing options. Burst heal with potion when you’re about to die and Bandages when you can create space and apply them over one second. There is a small animation where you are vulnerable.
Best Glider
The best Glider for this build in Enshrouded is the Ghost Glider. The Ghost Glider is a level 30 legendary glider with increased range and speed compared to others in the game. Unlike previous Gliders which can be crafted, you must find this one in a Gold Chest at the top of the South-East Sun Temple.
Travel south from the Kindlewaste Ancient Spire and past the Scatterbone Scavenger area. The Ghost Glider is through the temple which will require some fighting and puzzles.
