Enshrouded Wand Overview and Pros

The Wand is a medium-range weapon that fires small projectile(s) without a long cast time or mana. Unlike the Staff, your Wand will not require a charge time or a specific spell to fire off damage. The type of element the Wand uses is found in the damage section, and with subsequent upgrade passive bonuses, you can have multiple effects like shock, fire, ice, shroud, and so on.

The Wand can also fire multishot, depending on the individual weapon. This Multishot is an inherent trait on some wands, shooting multiple shots at reduced damage. This makes the Wand better for AOE damage killing multiple targets and keeping up with the Staff’s raw AOE. This bonus can stack with the Wand Master passive which triggers an extra projectile at random, giving you a lot more area and multi-target kill potential.

The Overcharge part of the wand is a small bonus to deal bonus damage. The highest level wands in the game currently have a 27% overcharge bonus. While this is great, it’s not the be-all, end-all bonus of the Wand and players should look for ideal bonuses and traits rather than overcharge percentage.

Wands have another unique advantage, which is that they can equip a shield simultaneously with a Wand in the main hand. This is a massive advantage for players, being able to block or parry incoming attacks without a weapon swap. If that weren’t enough, the Unity skill gives Wand users 4% mana back on hit (24% chance).

Lastly, to increase Wand damage, increase intelligence, eat food, use specific gear, or skills from the Battlemage skill tree. Let us compare the Wand and the Staff to determine which weapon you should use and why.

Wands vs. Staves: Pros & Cons

The Wand is considered one of the strongest weapons in the game but is often overlooked by players in favor of the Staff. Understanding the trade-offs is crucial for optimizing your build. Below are some pros and cons for each weapon type:

Essential Wand Traits & Optimization

In Enshrouded, weapons are obtained at random from Chest drops and some bosses (see chest guide). However, the traits, or individual bonuses, remain the same. The area in which you get the gold chest determines the Wands overall level. Meaning, if you get a low-level Wand, it won’t scale to your current level. Therefore, it’s best to wait until near the end of the game to seriously upgrade your Wand as you progress from levels 1-45.

Below, we rank the best Wand traits to look for and explain why they are useful:

1. Ancient Drak Wand (The AoE King)

Ancient Drak Wand Bonuses and Features:

Multishot: fires multiple projectiles, but at reduced damage

Released in Update 7, the Ancient Drak Wand emphasizes Magic Shock Damage. The reason shock damage is so powerful is due to a new debuff called Soaked. When soaked, you reduce shock Resistance by 30%, allowing increased damage from not only your Wand but two wizard skill passives Chain Hit (shock on magic weapon crit, crit deal shock damage to all targets in 20 meters). The result? Massive increase area damage, the big weakness of the Wand weapon type.

If that weren’t enough, the Gem of Currents was introduced. This allows you to apply Soaked while you are wet. Simply dip into water to get soaked, then have the wet debuff on yourself. Insert this gem into your wand and attack, and you will not only apply soaked to the enemy but a chunk of shock damage as well. This shock damage benefits from the wizard skill Thunder (30% boost), as well as Chain Hit and Mass Destruction. This combination is the best way to deal with the Wands AOE weakness in comparison to the Staff without sacrificing anything!

Plus, the Ancient Drak Wand has Multishot, further increasing your damage. The developers also introduced a new item meant for the soaked shock build called Circlet of Lightning. 21% critical chance and 15% shock damage are by far the highest damage sources in the game, making obvious choice if you wish to deal with the Soaked debuff mechanic.

There are a bunch of alternatives to this weapon like Mythic Wand or Ritual Tempest Wand. But, multishot and the bonuses make Ancient Drak Wand the best.

2. Polymath (Single Target DPS)

The second best Wand is Polymath’s Wand which is fire based which two bonuses to critical strike damage. While it doesn’t deal with shock and soaked damage, the true strength is Fire damage with a Gem of Burning (springland area). Fire damage absolutely melts Shroud NPCs, and the damage over time is significant. Once you upgrade your Gem of Burning to 30 or greater, the damage has 100% uptime on a target, thus providing you with a stream of free DPS and it’s noticeable.

The game has many ways to buff flame damage specifically. One advantage over any other type of element is Prayer of the Flame Scroll. You gain a massive 20% boost to fire damage for 30 minutes which stacks with skills and gear. Add this total, you have the highest DPS boost to a single element and it doesn’t require you to get soaked.

The developers also introduced Flaming Gauntlets designed for the Wand and a fire build. You can only obtain these in the most northern part of the Veilwater Basin, but it’s a massive boost to this playstyle and our favorite way to play the Wand build.

3. Helix Wand (Double Projectiles)

Ethereal Duplication: double projectiles at 50% chance but NO lower damage

The Helix Wand is an interesting mid-game drop around level 25 areas. Obviously, Shroud damage is going to be weak against Shroud creatures, but the Etheral Duplication bonus is unique. It grants you a 50% chance to spawn projectiles, but WITHOUT the reduction in damage! We’ve collected over 200+ chest at this point and haven’t found the Helix Wand at end-game level 45 area. However, it’s a solid choice for anyone at the mid-game in Enshrouded not facing off in Shroud-heavy areas.

For alternatives, you can use any Wand and elemental combo that you like. Ice in particular is a great choice since the end-game item Frozen Gauntlets were added. This pairs well if you use Ice Bolt spell on a staff and wand as your secondary weapon choice. Either way, build towards one element so the bonuses stack and you get the most out of your chosen wand.

Optimal Gear Combos: Maximizing Wand Strength

A wand is only as good as the mage wielding it. Optimize your damage and survivability with these gear and skill combos. Your gloves/hands is where you will see Wand damage increase while head will have magic critical and critical chance. For chest and legs, go with a high HP set since you don’t need as much mana. Below are some recommendations.
