Enshrouded One-Handed Weapons Overview
One-handed weapons in Enshrouded are commonly used by players who value survival more than pure damage, such as the Enshrouded Warrior Build. Unlike a Two-Handed weapon, you are able to equip a shield simultaneously, thus allowing you to block instantly or hold block when being attacked. One-handed weapons come in the form of Axe, Club, and sword. Each has an attack speed of 0.6 making them faster to swing and easier to break animation for a block.
The One-handed weapon types increase in effectiveness with the Strength stat. You can also increase damage with food, armor, and accessories. Specifically consumables provide bonus damage to melee attacks, offering a percentage-based boost that helps with one or two-handed weapons. Most players use One-Handed weapons and spec heavily into the Warrior, Barbarian and even tank skill trees.

One of the downsides to One-Handed weapons are the lack of abilities and skills. The Two-Handed weapon for instance has the Whirlwind Crescendo ability that deals massive AOE if you complete an attack chain (3-4 attacks). Upward Slash and Evasion Attack are universal skills to any melee weapon, but it feels the lack of an AOE ability as a major drawback in exchange for more survivability.
Most one-handed weapons are obtained through random drops from bosses or loot chests rather than crafting. Many of the strongest options come from farming specific locations, marking reliable chest spawns, and rotating through bosses to increase your chances of legendary weapon drops.

Dealing with ranged or flying enemies relies heavily on Grounding Hook. These abilities let you pull airborne targets like Banshees and Vultures directly to you, or quickly close the gap by leaping to enemies at range. After unlocking this in the center tree, you can target an enemy and activate the grapple icon when it appears. Keep in mind that Grounding Hook consumes a large amount of stamina, so managing sprinting and attack spam is crucial. Below, we break down the one-handed playstyle and compare it to two-handed weapons to help you decide where to invest your skill points and which weapon type best fits your build.
The One-Handed Playstyle

The one-handed playstyle is all about sustained DPS and active defense. Unlike the “rambo” nature of two-handed builds, 1H users focus on parrying to stun enemies and then following up with quick strikes or Merciless Attacks. It is the most versatile playstyle, allowing you to weave in spells or use a bow without feeling as sluggish as a heavy-weapon user.
Merciless Attack specifically is the mechanic you focus heavily on. Through timing incoming attacks or attacking a blocking target, you fill up a silver bar above the enemies head. Once its filled, you can then execute a Merciless Attack at 500% more damage (base). With gear and skills you can increase this bonus significantly, essentially making it a one-shot mechanic on bosses or creatures. Therefore, your offensive game includes blocking and perfect parry to fill up this meter fully.
One-Handed vs. Two-Handed: Pros & Cons
| Feature | One-Handed (Sword/Mace/Axe) | Two-Handed (Greatsword/Hammer) |
| Attack Speed | Fast (0.6s) | Slow (0.7s – 0.8s) |
| Defense | Can use a Shield for 100% block. | Relies on Dodging. |
| Survivability | Highest in the game. | Low; requires high-skill dodging. |
| AOE | Limited (mostly forward arcs). | High (cleave and ground slams). |
How to Get One-Handed Weapons

One-handed weapons can be crafted early on, found in loot chests, earned from quests, or dropped by enemies. Early in the game, you can craft basic weapons and armor to get started, but these are only meant to carry you for a short time.
The strongest one-handed weapons mostly come from gold chests and high-level bosses. You can’t craft max-level one-handed weapons, only lower-level or lore versions, so farming becomes very important as you level up. Spend time exploring each area, marking chest locations on your map, and clearing bosses as they respawn. As you gain levels, you’ll unlock better weapons and more skill points, making your build stronger and letting you handle harder areas.
To farm efficiently, log in and place flame altars near known gold chest locations, then run a loop that includes killing bosses and opening chests. This gives you the best chance at finding a one-handed weapon with the traits you want. Keep in mind that as of Update 7, chests take much longer to respawn and logging out no longer resets them. The best approach is to clear all chest locations, then go do other content and come back several hours later to check them again. We have a guide on this chest farming here.

Best One-Handed Weapons Ranked (Update 8)
Below are the best one-handed weapons ranked from best to worst for Enshrouded.
- Spine of Dalszul: resource and survivability
- Aurora Sword: high critical, easy to get
- Celestial Axe: most critical damage
- Mace of Wrath: good for merciless builds
- Enflamed Sword: helpful exploring
1. Spine of Dalszul (Resource Sustain)

Spine of Dalszul Bonuses and Features:
- Renewal: Defeat an enemy to restore Durability.
- +10% Cutting Damage: Direct boost to your base damage.
- 20% Retaliation: Reflects melee damage back to attackers.
- 5% Health Leech: Essential for staying alive in the Shroud.
- 5% Mana Leech: Perfect for Battlemages who need mana for Blinks.
The Spine of Dalszul is the undisputed king of melee because of its resource sustain and renewal bonus. In a patch where passive healing was nerfed, its dual-leech capabilities make it mandatory for high-level exploration.

The health leech component can be combined with Battle Heal and Gemini Rings (found in Moth’s Grove). Stacking multiple sources of health leech on your build allows you to play all out aggressive and not have to worry about constantly missing a block or spamming potions. Plus all of these bonuses stack with high health regeneration, giving you a massive boost to survival which is needed at max level in Enshrouded.

Another advantage of the Spine of Dalszul is it’s cutting damage and subsequent bonus. Since you only have one source of damage (cutting), it becomes very skill point efficient to max out the weapons overall damage. The renewal bonus is also nice because weapons degrade much faster in Enshrouded’s current update and you’re constantly having to go back and repair or just leave the fight.

Lastly, don’t sleep on the retaliation bonus reflecting back damage to melee attacks. You want to pair this bonus with Counterstrike from the Trickster skill tree. With this skill unlocked, you can reflect an additional 50% back at attackers and the bonuses stacks. This becomes a powerful way to constantly do damage even when getting attacked. And if you have enough health leech coming in, you can forgo constantly perfect blocking and stay aggressive.
The Spine of Dalszul is a well rounded one-handed weapon useful for any build and that’s why we rank it the best in Enshrouded latest Patch.
2. Aurora Sword (High Critical)

Aurora Sword Bonuses and Features:
- 5% Precise: Increased Critical Strike Chance.
- +10% Magic Ice Damage: Extra punch against fire-themed enemies.
- +10% Piercing Damage: Helps bypass armor on Scavenger elites.
- +10% Magic Ice Damage: A second stack of elemental power.
- 5% Precise: Further boosts your crit consistency.
The strength of the Aurora Sword is it’s powerful two bonuses to increased critical (Precise). This bonus is helpful when using the Battle Heal skill passive in the tank tree to get as much passive healing as possible, giving you consistent burst damage and healing all in one weapon.

Since Aurora Sword has two bonuses of ice damage, you can increase this base percentage in the Wizard tree. While you’re there, consider getting the Frost bonus: when receiving melee damage, the attacker will be slowed down for five seconds. While this is typically a bonus for mages running away, it’s also very helpful to kite and take down multiple enemies at once.
The two precise bonuses are great for the Aurora Sword, but the one random piercing diminishes the weapons overall power. However, with some points invested into Frost it can be a super fun debuff playstyle to build your character around.
3. Celestial Axe (Critical Damage)

Celestial Axe Bonuses and Features:
- +10% Cutting Damage: Boosts the axe’s primary damage type.
- +10% Piercing Damage: Adds versatility to your damage profile.
- 20% Brutal: Massive increase to Critical Strike Damage.
- 5% Precise: Increased chance to trigger those brutal hits.
- 20% Brutal: Stacked crit damage for huge burst potential.
The Celestial Axe is the weapon you’re going to want to use with a critical build because of it’s two bonuses to “brutal” increasing critical damage by 20%. Plus, with one bonus into Precise, it’s an all around amazing weapon for burst damage.

While we’ve already talked about the Battle Heal skill, also consider the Veteran skill just as important. Gain 10% critical strike chance with this four point skill. Your brutal bonuses are much more likely to appear once this is unlocked and stacks with the 5% critical chance from the precise trait. With the end-game helm of Sunpiercer, you gain another 18% critical strike chance. This combo allows you to get consistent burst damage needed to take out the best enemies in Enshrouded.
However, we would rank this higher on the list if it had health or stamina leech. Plus, Enshrouded criticals don’t typically trigger effects unless you are a spellcaster or archer (Terror / Blessed Arrows). Therefore, the bonuses don’t feed into the best end-game build style but it’s still a great weapon to use if you have enough built in survivability due to your gameplay.
4. Mace of Wrath (Merciless Build)

Mace of Wrath Bonuses and Features:
- 20% Merciless: Huge damage boost to your execute attacks.
- +10% Magic Ice Damage: Adds a chilly bite to every swing.
- 20% Merciless: Stacks for devastating finishers.
- 20% Retaliation: Helps chip away at enemies while you block.
- 20% Merciless: A triple stack of executioner power.
Clubs and Maces have high “Stun” potential, and the Mace of Wrath specializes in the Merciless Attack mechanic. Use this if you enjoy the parry-and-execute loop.

The parry and merciless loop is timing heavy. When an incoming attack is shown, you block preciously before the attack lands. This will swing your shield and bash them, creating a high stun resource (gray bar). Once filled, you can then execute the merciless attack which has many passive skills that help this playstyle.

For instance, Blood Warrior spawns a 10% health orb after a Merciless Attack kill. Thus, the loop sustains your life. This sounds great, but in reality it can be hard to pull off in a high AOE fight or in certain bosses. Some bosses, you won’t be able to block or parry their attacks, leaving the entire bonuses and combo useless. While others, makes the fights simple. Therefore, take this weapon setup and realize it will have situational usage and focus on block heavy gameplay.
5. Enflamed Sword (Fire)

Enflamed Sword Bonuses and Features:
- +10% Magic Fire Damage: Great for burning through health pools.
- +10% Piercing Damage: Adds armor penetration.
- Renewal: Keeps your weapon sharp during long expeditions.
- +10% Magic Fire Damage: Increases the burn.
- 5% Precise: Standard crit chance boost for reliable damage.
The Enflamed Sword is excellent for general mob clearing, especially against “Vukah” or wildlife that are weak to fire. It also includes Renewal, making it a great “daily driver” for long adventures where you don’t want to run back to a workbench.

Fire damage specifically is usually focused on by magic users. However, you can increase the fire damage in the Wizard tree and also build a Shroud grinding setup. While Radiant Aura deals damage to nearby fell based on your intelligence, even 10 intelligence gives you consistent damage per second. Also taking Counterstrike helps reflect back even more fire damage that will increase from the two passive in this skill tree (arsonist, pyromaniac) .
While not a meta weapon, it’s a fun way to play grinding mobs in the Shroud, plus the weapon looks amazing on your character.
Best Gear & Skills for One-Handed Builds

- Level 3: Rags (manual crafting)
- Level 5: Rising Fighter (Blacksmith)
- Level 13: Adventurer (Blacksmith)
- Level 18: Guardian (Blacksmith)
- Level 23: Rogue gloves, Soldier rest (Blacksmith)
- Level 33: Mountain’s Shadow with Wolf’s Fang gloves (Blacksmith)
- Level 43: Sunpiercer with Wolf’s Fang gloves (Blacksmith)
One-Handed Weapon Scaling and Damage
In Update 8, one-handed weapons scale primarily with Strength. However, notice that many top-tier swords now include Magic Damage (Ice or Fire). This means that you can increase the base elemental damage like fire with the Wizard skills Arsonist. Those skills will only affect the fire damage, but it’s enough to increase your overall DPS per swing.
Best Consumables for a One-Handed Build

To get the most out of your one-handed weapon build, you’ll want to use consumables that improve your damage, survivability, and stamina management. Fried Rice is an excellent choice for melee builds, as it increases melee damage and helps you get more value out of each fast attack. Grilled Crab Meat is another must-have, providing a large boost to your maximum health, which is especially important when fighting up close.
Rooibos Tea is great for stamina sustain, letting you attack, dodge, and use abilities more often without running dry. The Open Sandwich is also worth using, offering a straightforward damage increase that makes your one-handed strikes hit harder. When combined with the right armor and skill setup, these consumables help turn your one-handed build into a reliable, high-damage option for tackling tough encounters.
