Enshrouded Best Spells Overview

In Enshrouded, the spellcasting system is divided into two primary categories: consumable Spell Charges and permanent Eternal Spells, both of which are cast using a Staff. Unlike Wands, which offer a rapid-fire “basic attack” style of magic without resource costs, the Staff requires the player to equip specific spells in their ammunition slots. Standard Spell Charges are finite resources that must be crafted by the Alchemist or at the Alchemy Station though some can be found in the world; once you cast a fireball or ice bolt, that charge is consumed. This forces a tactical approach to exploration, as mages must balance their inventory and manage mana consumption simultaneously.

The mid-to-late game progression introduces Eternal Spells, which are essentially infinite versions of their consumable counterparts. These are obtained through high-level Alchemist quests and require significantly more expensive materials to craft, such as Research Papers or rare Alchemical Base. Once an Eternal Spell is slotted, you can cast it indefinitely as long as you have enough Mana and Stamina to support the cast time. Because Staff spells require a “charge-up” period, positioning and stamina management become vital; if you are hit during the draw time, your spell can be interrupted, leaving you vulnerable.

To maximize spell efficiency, players must invest in the Wizard and Battlemage skill trees, which provide essential buffs to specific elemental types. Skills like Arsonist increase fire damage, while Chain Hit allows shock spells to jump between enemies, creating massive area-of-effect potential. In the latest updates, the synergy between spells and environmental debuffs has become even more critical; for example, applying the Soaked status to an enemy reduces their shock resistance by 30%, making lightning-based spells the optimal choice for boss encounters.
Best Enshrouded Eternal Spells Ranked (Update 8)
- Eternal Fireball Level 2: the bread and butter spell in Enshrouded with massive damage and massive AOE.
- Eternal Chain Lightning: great shock damage dealer with one second cast time and ability to stun enemies.
- Eternal Lightning Channel: 0.3 second damage tick that can stun enemies with Terror skill.
- Eternal Ice Bolt Level 2: best spell for crowd control and quick burst single target damage.
- Eternal Heal Channel: useful on every build to self-heal without potions.
1. Eternal Fireball II (The Nuke)

Eternal Fireball II Features and Stats:
- Level: 38
- Damage: 110
- Element Type: Fire
- Mana Cost: 100
- Cast Time: 2.0 seconds
- How to get: quest A Glimpse of Eternity

The undisputed king of AoE damage, Fireball II is still the best spell in Enshrouded due to its fire damage and area width. You can use this spell to clear large areas of enemies, single-target nuke a boss, or start a fight at max distance with any build. Update 7 introduced the II (2) second version which upgraded the damage significantly. Just like previous metas, Fire is still amazing because of the Fell creature’s weakness, making it the best choice overall.

There is only one downside with this spell and that’s the cast time. With a two-second cast time, you can often get interrupted. You will need to invest in the skills Blink and Emergency Blink to create space from enemies in order to double dodge and get two seconds to free-cast. However, the spell doesn’t require a target which allows you to launch at 90+ meters if you aim it right. This gives you a opener shot on any build which you can use the gem of burning on to trigger even more fire damage.

You will want to pair this spell with Prayer of the Flame Scroll and the Arsonist skill from the Wizard tree. This will give you a massive increase to fire damage! No other damage type can get buffed that much, and throw on an Elixir when fighting in the Shroud for another 20% increased damage.
Look to the Alchemist when you enter Veilwater Basin to trigger a long quest chain where you can acquire new Eternal Spells including Fireball II. It will make your Wizard, Staff and Wand builds that much better!
2. Eternal Chain Lightning (The Mob Killer)

Eternal Chain Lightning Features and Stats:
- Level: 32
- Damage: 128
- Element Type: Shock
- Mana Cost: 98
- Cast Time: 1 second
- How to get: unlocked by discovering Silver Dust for the first time.

The second-best spell in Enshrouded is Eternal Chain Lightning because it deals great damage but also has a one second cast time. That’s half the time of Fireball and even a higher damage number! Plus, Eternal Chain Lightning has an added advantage to fill the enemy’s stun bar. This spell can even be used to stun the Fell Dragon Youngling, one of the hardest damage fights in the game.

Eternal Chain Lightning also interacts with the powerful Soaked debuff. You can soak targets by using the Gem of Currents, then reduce their shock resistance by 30%. This spell can also chain to other targets with Wizard skills Chain Hit and Mass Destruction, causing a massive web of shock damage.

The major downside to the spell is it’s radius in comparison to Fireball II. You won’t have the same jaw-dropping large nuke on waves of mobs. Moreover, you require a target in medium range. Therefore, it’s easier to start off combat launching a fireball then getting close for a Chain Lightning attack. Once targets are in close range however, you can stun lock them with Chain Lightning and take the Bloodletting skill which will spawn orbs on critical hits. These orbs can give you back resources including health, feeding your survivability and damage all in one spell!
3. Eternal Lightning Channel (The Boss Melter)

Eternal Lightning Channel Features and Stats:
- Level: 43
- Damage: 27
- Element Type: Shock
- Mana Cost: 27
- Cast Time: 0.3 seconds
- How to get: quest A Glimpse of Eternity
What makes Eternal Lightning Channel so strong in the current meta is it’s 0.3 second damage ticks. This means, you generate three sources of shock damage within one second. Unlike the other spells, you “hold” down your attack button to channel until you let go. Eternal Lightning Channel has the same range and concepts as Chain Lightning, but it’s almost entirely single-target based.

The best use of the spell is on bosses or targets that can be stunned. You want to take the Terror skill from the Trickster skill tree, which stuns enemies for four seconds on a critical. Also, take Bloodletting as well, so you not only stun but also spawn resource sustain orbs. Then, lock onto a target, and hold down the attack button. With around 30% critical, you’re going to constantly stun lock and trigger orbs, essentially making the target useless until it dies or you move to avoid another enemy. In single-target fights with Terror, nothing comes close to the crowd control potential.

Consider using the Storms Eye gem with this combo. That way, you can trigger a stream of Shock damage to multiple targets, solving the AOE problem. However, the range and lack of AOE in comparison to Fireball holds Eternal Lightning Channel from being ranked higher on this list.
4. Eternal Ice Bolt II (Slow)

Eternal Ice Bolt II Features and Stats:
- Level: 43
- Damage: 126
- Element Type: Ice
- Mana Cost: 138
- Cast Time: 1.2 seconds
- How to get: quest a Glimpse of Eternity
The best defensive spell for mages who need to keep distance is Eternal Ice Bolt II. The spell is unlocked via the quest A Glimpse of Eternity, and it’s an upgraded version of Eternal Ice Bolt I. You get the added effect of slowing the target after impacting them which is super helpful for keeping distance. The spell has high damage of 126 and a cast time of 1.2 seconds making a solid choice overall for single target focused builds.

The developers also added a unique glove to capitalize on Frost damage called Frozen Gauntlets. Found in a frozen lake in Veilwater Basin, you gain an additional 10% Ice damage and 10% mana regeneration. Oddly, this glove wants you to interact with the Soaked debuff system, and if you do, gain 25% critical strike damage. While that’s a huge amount of critical damage, it’s a bit odd that it requires you to use Frost and Soaked which aren’t entirely compatible.
Moreover, Frost elemental type isn’t as easy to boost as fire damage. Sure, frost has two skill nodes in Wizard just as Fire, Shock, and Shroud do, but there is no overpowered consumable like the Prayer of the Flame scroll that pushes the damage further. Overall, Eternal Ice Bolt II is a great spell for niche ice builds or spellcaster who cannot stand being attacked by melee targets. Outside of that, there are better options.
5. Eternal Heal Channel (The Life Saver)

Eternal Heal Channel Features and Stats:
- Level: 22
- Damage: 43
- Element Type: Healing
- Mana Cost: 14
- Cast Time: 1.0 second
- How to get: crafting Alchemist
The ultimate utility spell for group play and solo sustain is Eternal Heal Channel (Level 22). Instead of dealing damage, you heal for 43 health a second while you hold down the attack button. The spell shoots out a green heal spell and it will go to you if no allies are in the area (around 15 meters). Therefore, it’s a great solo survivability tool because it heals you to full without the need for potions or constant bandages.
The downside of the spell is the time and distance the beam travels. You get 43 health every one second which isn’t a lot like a bandage, but it takes another half second or so for the green beam to reach you. Therefore, you need to use it tactically when an enemy can’t reach you for three or four seconds (jumping on a box) or post fight to heal back to full. Typically, its best to use post fight where you have almost no way to regenerate health besides going home and resting or using potions.
It might seem odd to bring a staff with a martial melee build like two-handed, but this spell will change your survivability dramatically. Post-fight, you can use your mana, which is mainly useless outside of updraft, to heal back to full. Or, if you’re out of potions and bandages, sprint away, jump up high, and heal to full when no one can target you.
Eternal Heal Channel might not do damage, but its useful and necessary on every build merely for utility sake and post fight health maintenance.
Other Powerful Enshrouded Spells
The big upside of spells in Enshrouded is that you’re basically playing with unlimited ammo, so once you’ve got your mana and survivability dialed in, you can keep pressure on forever instead of rationing arrows or durability. Here are a few additional spells to consider using.
Shroud Meteor (Level 22) is still great when you need something to die right now. It’s especially good for killing bosses or deleting priority targets, because the damage comes in a big chunk that doesn’t rely on enemies standing still for long. The catch is that it’s not a spam spell, so you want to use it when you can safely commit and actually capitalize on the impact instead of tossing it out and backing away.
For swarms, Eternal Light Burst (level 22) is the opposite style: fast value, wide coverage, and it helps you stay in control when you’re surrounded. In cramped dungeons or Shroud areas, Eternal Light Burst can tag multiple enemies at once, which makes it great for thinning packs before they overwhelm you. If you’re looking for a simple, reliable spell that supports almost every mage build and keeps fights from turning into chaos, this is usually the first one people stick on their bar and never take off.
Acid Bite Spell Changes
Acid Bite (often discussed alongside the “Acid Cone” staff spell) took its biggest hit in the Hollow Halls Update on March 26, 2024. That patch removed a major synergy by stopping Bloodletting from triggering off Light Burst and Acid Cone, and it also fixed an issue that was causing “too high” critical damage for Acid Cone.
After that, magic damage in general got pushed down again with the June 5, 2024 balance pass, where staff contribution to the “damage dealt” calculation was reduced by 50%. Acid Bite did not get singled out there, but anything relying on staff scaling (including Acid Bite-style charge spells) felt it.
While previously an extremely powerful spell for the strongest builds, Acid Bite is now viewed as niche at best and underwhelming at worst, mainly because it’s short range, slower to charge, and harder to justify when Fireball and Ice Bolt do safer damage from a distance. You’ll see repeated complaints about it being “useless” after the nerfs and even feeling unreliable in later discussions.
Where it can still work is in tight spaces when you can force nearby enemies to clump, or when you’re comfortable playing in melee range as a mage. That’s also where the eternal acid bite spell can help, since it’s the convenient “always available” version, but the eternal acid bite level mostly determines how viable it feels as you move into high level enemies. If you’re planning to lean on it, you generally need enough armor (or other survivability tools) to stand your ground long enough to actually get value from the cone, because it’s a lot less forgiving now than it used to be.
