In this guide, we go through some Staff basics, along with the best Staff, best Staff traits, and how to build a Wizard using the weapon. The Staff remains as one of the strongest weapon types in Enshrouded, but players will have to adjust to new weapons, traits, and the soaked debuff which we will explain below.
Table of Contents
Enshrouded Staff Overview

For players who love burst and area (AOE) damage, the Staff is your best choice. The Staff works by charging a spell and releasing it after a cast time. You can either hold the button down (left mouse) or charge and hold (right mouse), releasing when you’re ready. Each spell has a variety of cast times and mana cost which balances their effectiveness.
The Staff can also heal, using spells like Heal Channel or Chain Heal. You can not only heal friends in Co-Op but yourself with Eternal Heal, making the Staff useful on every build, even two-handed melee users. The Staff spells are varied, covering every elemental damage type, thus you pair your favorite weapon with an element and form a powerful build.

However, there are downsides to the Staff and mainly the charge time. Longer cast time spells like Fireball have a massive radius, but a two-second cast time. Thus, you can be interrupted and forgo your spell only to have to charge it all over again.

Another pro to the Staff is the skill Terror from the Trickster skill line: critical strikes with spells stun the target for four seconds. You can unlock a massive fireball on a wave of enemies and stun lock them, recasting over and over before they can reach you. Assuming you don’t run out of mana.
The Wand is the direct competitor to the Staff because it doesn’t require any crafting, has near instant damage, and you can hold a shield. Both have strengths and weaknesses, which we share below so you can make the best decision of which weapon to use and why.
Enshrouded Staff vs. Wands: Pros & Cons
| Feature | Staff | Wand |
| Projectile Cost | Consumes Mana and Spell Charges (e.g., Fireball, Acid Bite). | FREE (Infinite use, only consumes durability). |
| Damage Type | Elemental damage defined by the Spell Charge (can be swapped instantly). | Fixed Elemental damage based on the staff itself (e.g., a “Fire” Wand). |
| Attack Speed | Slower, charged cast time; excels at high damage per hit. | Very fast, auto-aiming projectiles; excels at sustained DPS. |
| Defense | Must be wielded two-handed; relies entirely on mobility and shielding spells (like Magic Shield). | Can be paired with a Shield for parry and block. |
| Best Use | Wiping out enemy packs (AoE) and triggering powerful, instantaneous effects. | Sustained single-target DPS and mana-free combat. |
Enshrouded Best Staff Traits & Spell Optimization
In Enshrouded, weapons are obtained at random from Chest drops and some bosses (see our chest farm guide). However, the traits, or individual bonuses, remain the same. The only exception to this is Lore or Quest-related weapon drops, which are at the quest level. These can be recrafted but not to max quality and or level. Thus, lore weapons are helpful if you need a current-level weapon or want to retain the look.
Below, we rank the best Staff traits to look for and explain why they are useful:
| Trait Name | Effect | Rating | Why It’s Powerful |
| Elemental Damage | Adds bonus base damage of a specific element (e.g., +16 Fire Damage). | S Tier | Directly interacts with skills that increase elemental types and consumables. |
| Precise / Opportunistic | Determines the amount of extra critical chance. | A Tier | Helps with more consistent damage and burst. |
| Brutal / Ruthless | Determines the amount of extra critical damage. | A Tier | Makes your Staff high burst potential. |
| Health Leech | Health on damage. | B Tier | Makes your Staff have high burst potential. |
Spell Charge Types
- Eternal Spells: (e.g., Eternal Fireball, Eternal Ice Bolt) doesn’t consume the spell, can be reused with mana.
- High-Cost Spells: (e.g., Chain Lightning, Meteor) Consume both Mana and a Spell Charge. Sometimes the non-eternal versions have higher damage, or healing.
Enshrouded Best Staff: Ranked Tier List
1. Violet Storm (High Critical)

Violet Storm Staff Bonuses and Features:
- +10% Shock Damage
- Precise: 5% increased critical strike chance
- Spiritual: increased mana regeneration
- Opportunistic: 10% increased critical strike chance against soaked enemies
- Ruthless: 30% increased critical strike damage against soaked enemies

The reason Violet Storm is the strongest weapon in Enshrouded is the new Soaked debuff, two new weapon traits (Opportunistic, Ruthless), and new gear that combines to form a super build. The first piece is the Spell Eternal Chain Lightning which deals shock damage, one second cast time, draining stamina, and filling the enemies stun bar. The stun bar part is important because it “stacks” with Terror. If you continuously cast on a single target, it will either fill up their stun bar and crowd control them or a critical and Terror skill proc will stun. Therefore, it gives the spellcaster a powerful way to control bosses including the Fell Dragon boss.

The next important part is the new Soaked buff combined with the Gem of Currents. When soaked, you reduce shock Resistance by 30%, allowing increased damage from not only your Staff with Eternal Chain Lightning but two wizard skill passives Chain Hit and Mass Destruction (shock on magic weapon crit, crit deal shock damage to all targets in 20 meters). While not as AOE-producing as Fireball, the single target damage is incredible plus the chance to stun targets makes it even better.

If that weren’t enough, the developers want you to use the Soaked debuff and apply it to enemies. The easiest way is via the Gem of Currents, which can drop from Drak Warriors in the Veilwater Basin Region. You get soaked, then wet and retain the wet debuff for 7 minutes or so. While wet, you apply the Soaked debuff at a 50% chance when dealing damage. This sets up your entire build, focusing on shock, burst damage, and crowd control

The last piece of the puzzle is the Circlet of Lightning which is obtained through the Crown of Lightning quest. Not only does this increase your shock damage by 15%, but increases critical chance by a massive 21% if the enemies is soaked. This 21% chance is the highest in the game and stacks with the new weapon trait opportunistic (10% critical chance while soaked). Throw in another 5% critical chance if you take the Ranger skill (it seems odd but works), and you have an ultra-high critical chance build that hits hard.

Plus, going back to that Terror skill, you stun lock enemies on a critical. This build setup is for highly combat-oriented players who want to melt bosses or any single target. The downside is, it requires a specific combination of skills and gear. The upside, however, is that the Staff can do as much single target damage as any other build and also the most AOE damage at range. Thus, we rank Violet Storm as the best Staff in Enshrouded and a must have item in Enshrouded.
2. Staff of Guidance (Highest Burst)

Staff of Guidance Bonuses and Features:
- +10% Fire Damage
- Brutal: 20% increased critical strike damage
- +10% Fire Damage
- Brutal: 20% increased critical strike damage
- Brutal: 20% increased critical strike damage

The second-best Staff in Enshrouded is the Staff of Guidance because of its burst critical strike damage bonus and fire damage element. Fire damage is easy to increase because of consumable items like Prayer of the Flame Scroll: increase fire damage by 20% for 30 minutes. You also have gem of burning as well, creating a single target high damage over time (DOT) debuff with 100% uptime.

The developer also added Eternal Fireball II to the spell list, granting 110 fire damage per cast. This is the highest burst damage in the game with a massive AOE. Combine with Gem of Burning and you’ll melt targets with fire damage.
The major downside with the fire element and fireball combo is the cast time. You have a two second cast vs. one with Chain Lightning. Opening with a Fireball from max range is easy, but as targets close the distance, it become more challenging to consistently launch repetitive fireballs in succession. Especially if you’re at 1.9 seconds and a monster hits you, your DPS falls to zero and you are better off with a Wand.
Therefore, we rank Staff of Guidance as the second best for ad clear where you just want to nuke large packs of enemies and power level in the Shroud.
3. Staff of the Moor (Resource Sustain)

Staff of the Moor Bonuses and Features:
- Health Leech: 5% hits restore a percentage of damage dealt as Health
- +10% Shroud Damage
- Mana Leech: 5% hits restore a percentage of damage dealt as Mana
- +10% Shroud Damage
- Stamina Leech: 5% hits restore a percentage of damage dealt as Stamina
No other Staff beats the Staff of the Moor’s bonuses to resource sustain. You get all three, mana, stamina, and health leech! The other two bonuses are related to Shroud damage which hold it back from ranking higher than third. Since Shroud enemies are the most common, this overall weakens the weapon’s potential.
However, the Staff of the Moor has much more usage besides a Wizard build which mains Staff. In fact, the best use for this weapon is on non-staff wielding builds even a Two-handed Greatsword. Seems odd right? Just use a Heal Channel Spell to heal yourself then turn and launch a Fireball if you’re out of health or stamina. It’s a way you can channel your mana into resources you need like health or stamina. Same goes for bow users or a Staff / Wand spellcaster who dodges and blocks a lot and runs low on stamina.
If you wanted a versatile Staff that would work with any situation, it would be Staff of the Moor. However, resource sustain becomes less important in boss fight when you want to finish the target ASAP, thus we rank it third on this list.
4. Staff of the Taurus (Ice Specialist)

Staff of the Taurus Bonuses and Features:
- +20% Ice Damage
- +20% Ice Damage
- Spiritual: increased mana regeneration
- Spiritual: increased mana regeneration
- Precise: 5% increased critical strike chance
The recent meta in Enshrouded was all about shock damage, but previously it was Ice in Update 6. This is where the Staff of the Taurus shines as an ice and cold build designed for the previous patch and update.

The developers added Frozen Gauntlets to the game, further increasing ice damage by 10%. The downside is, you need to incorporate the soaked debuff into your build in order to get 25% critical strike damage. Which doesn’t make that much sense, considering shock works better.
With Eternal Ice Bolt II at your disposal, a Frost Ice staff build isn’t a terrible idea. It’s just lower single-target DPS than a shock setup and much lower AOE DPS than fire. Therefore, we rank the Staff of the Taurus fourth on this list.
5. Shroud Weaver (Beginner Staff)

Shroud Weaver Staff Bonuses and Features:
- +10% Shroud Damage
- Brutal: 20% increased critical strike damage
- Spiritual: increased mana regeneration
The Shroud Weaver staff is the best beginner weapon to get because it drops from the same location. Found in the Southeastern side of the map in the Village of Low Tide, surrounded by Fell enemies, you can complete the Mysterious Wanderer Appears quest and obtain this weapon.
The first version you get will be level 20/25. However, you can recraft this lore weapon at the Alchemist up to level 36/39. Therefore, if you’re stuck between levels and haven’t upgraded your staff for a while, this is the best choice to get something effective as you level in Enshrouded.
