On April 21st, Enshrouded Update 8 officially lands, bringing huge changes to the game’s core mechanics. Our team has analyzed the massive shifts in skills and gear to ensure our guides and builds remain up to date.
What Changed in Enshrouded Update 8?
Enshrouded Update 8 (Forging the Path) overhauled melee combat in two major ways. Every melee weapon now has a heavy attack triggered by holding the attack button, dealing double damage to enemies and doubling stun bar damage compared to a standard light attack. Two-handed axes, two-handed hammers, and greatswords also received a full rework of their attack chains, so if you play any of those weapon types, your rotation will feel noticeably different the moment you log in.
The second major change is the new Focus system. Regular weapon attacks now build a resource called Focus, and when the bar fills, you can trigger a weapon-specific special ability for a powerful effect. This means your choice of weapon now matters beyond raw stat comparisons since each type has a unique ultimate move tied to it. Wands and fireballs also received improvements, including larger range, improved durability, and increased explosion radius, making wand builds more competitive heading into the final stretch of Early Access.
Enshrouded Update 7 Weapon Summary
With Enshrouded Update 7, players saw a lot of changes for legendary weapons. Here’s a breakdown of some important updates and how it can effect your build with most weapons:
- New Weapon Type: Introduced the Greatsword, a powerful two-handed melee option. It has slow speed but a unique passive skill that gives it 10% damage, which no other two-handed weapon type has access to.
- Level Cap Increase: The player level cap has been increased (e.g., to level 45 in the update, with weapon levels up to 50), which means new tiers of gear are available. Moreover, your old weapons will not retroactively be updated. Thus, expect to farm all new end-game weapons.
- Crafting Overhaul (Lore Weapons): Now players can craft lore weapons at higher levels. This gives you a way to bring up a lower level lore weapon that you might like for the look, but had level 10 stats. However, these weapons won’t reach max level of 50, so min-maxer won’t be able to use the Wailing Blade at end game.

Expect to spend a whole lot of time farming chests to get new weapons at max level 50. Chests now do not automatically spawn after you log out, so getting a max level item is truly special. We’ve found three max level chest in Veilwater Basin and marked them on the map for you in the image above.
How Weapon Damage & Scaling Works
Before ranking players need to clearly understand how weapons work and how to increase their power. The basic way weapons do more damage is by an attribute. Take Strength, which increases Two-Handed and One-Handed weapons like swords, Hammers, Greatswords, etc. Dexterity increases damage by Bow and Daggers. Make note of Daggers, that’s the only “melee” weapon that is increased via Dex, making it a great choice for hybrid melee and range players. Lastly, we have intelligence which increases Wand and Staff damage.

A couple of other factors to consider isn’t overall damage but attack speed. If a weapon does 100 damage but has a 2 second attack speed, that’s not going to be as good as a 50 attack power weapon with 0.5 second attack speed. Daggers for instance are much faster attack speed at 0.4, bow draw speed 0.6, and Two-Handed Axe 0.7. All this to say, don’t just look at damage and assume it’s the best.
The last, most important factor is that some weapons can be equipped with a shield, giving them an extra bonus. Wand and Shield alongside One-Handed and Shield make a hybrid offensive and defensive weapon type because you can quickly block after an attack.
All of these factors should be considered when picking the best weapon in Enshrouded, or just have us do it for you below!
| Attribute | Affects | Best For |
| Strength | Physical, melee power | One and Two Handed Weapons |
| Dexterity | Crit, finesse, speed | Daggers, Bows |
| Intelligence | Spell power, elements | Staff, Wand |

Top 5 Best Weapon Types (Update 8 Meta)
The bow remains the best overall weapon type in Enshrouded due to it’s damage, range, and ease of play. Second is Wand and Shield because it has great survivability and sustain. The third choice is the Staff for massive area damage at range. Below we rank the top five weapon choices and why you should use them in Enshrouded.
1. Bow (Best Ranged Damage / Exploration)

The Bow is the best weapon type in Enshrouded because nothing offers as much damage and survivability all in one. What makes the bow unique is its high critical, dexterity scaling, but also it’s explosive arrows. Players can use the Explosive Arrows III as well. This gives extra 38 fire damage which doesn’t seem like a lot. But, it can “multi-shot,” meaning you can randomly trigger three arrows at once! If that weren’t good enough, if you critical strike an enemy you stun them for one second! And just to make sure our point is heard at how absurdly good the bow is, your critical stirkes restore mana as well!

Thus, you end up in this ranged stun lock, AOE, single target melting build, all with one click. Now the bow wants you to aim for headshots, which are called “Skill Shots.” These give you extra damage via the skill and are usually the heads or hearts of enemies. However, players who aren’t skilled shooters can simply auto-target by pressing tab to lock on the enemies and never have to worry about missing. Since you can constantly stun targets, you’ll want to pick up the Backstab Mastery skill. Always get the back of a target and add another 55% damage on top of your attacks to make your numbers pop off the screen.
The major downside to the bow is that to make use of its raw power, you need a lot of time to craft special arrows and a ton of skill points. The bow needs to max out at least two skill lines to make it work: Ranger and Assassin. Moreover, you need a ton of annoying material farming (Black Powder / Iron Dust) to make the latest and greatest arrows. However, the upside is too good to pass up. You simply sit back, fire off Explosive Arrows or Stun Arrows, and stun lock one or more targets while hitting them at range. Get Blink and Emergency Blink with high stamina regeneration, and enemies will never even come close to you. Just keep your distance in close quarters and you won’t regret using a bow on the highest difficulty in Enshrouded.
Last point, the Bow can uniquely take down the Fell Dragon boss needed to advance to the new Veilwater Basin. That’s because Stun arrows that can multi-trigger in 3x form fill up the stun bar and allow you to nuke the boss with backstab damage. No other build can do this! While this isn’t the “final boss” it’s the biggest barrier to reaching end-game and the bow is uniquely suited to melting this annoying and dreadful boss when playing solo.
The best build for using a Bow is the Enshrouded Archer Build.
Enshrouded Best Bow

The Ignited Bow is the best in Enshrouded due to it’s fire damage and reaping bonus. Plus, you can stack increased fire damage and explosive arrows for huge damage synergy. A secondary choice would be the Drak Whistle Bow if you’re building for Shock damage. That’s because the developers added a few skills and a unique buff called Soaked. You can apply this debuff to enemies with the Wet dog essentially hurting their resource sustain and allowing for extra weapon perks.

Once you apply the soaked debuff, you can lower resistance to fire, ice, and shock. Specifically shock has two new weapon trait called Opportunistic and Ruthless. Opportunistic increase critical chance against soaked targets by 10% (up from 5% via Precise, so DOUBLE) and 30% increase critical strike damage against soaked enemies (up from 20% so 33%).
TLDR: the game really wants you to apply soaked debuff then gear all of your weapons to shock.
A versatile bow that fits any build would be Devilish which focuses on backstab and critical rather than multiple lines of elemental damage.

There are unique gear sets and craftable sets via the Hunter that increase bow damage. This is what you to seek. If you like aiming for headshots, go with “skillshot” damage. If you cannot stand that and just auto target enemies, look for a different bonus. Either way optimize for bow damage as your base via your gloves.
2. Wand & Shield (Best Hybrid / Survivability)

The Wand and Shield ranks number two on our best weapon list for Enshrouded. The Wand now gives passive mana regeneration and the shields called Wards now also give Mana Regeneration and Elemental Resists like Ice and Shock. This not only makes you much tankier, but gives you mana for days, useful when swapping to a Staff for massive AOE attacks or healing.
The Wand is a medium ranged weapon that hits hard but really shines once you get the Wand Master passive. It gives you 30% chance to spawn double projectiles! You start to do much more damage while retaining your survivability quickly blocking and Blinking away from enemies. Pair that skill with Sting, and repeated Wand damage is increased by 20%, giving you more incentive to spam Wand attacks over and over.

Unlike the Staff, Wand attacks cost zero mana and even restore mana with the Unity passive. This alone gives you a massive advantage over the staff because your Wand attacks are near instant, restore mana, and cost you zero mana to use. The biggest downside to the Wand in comparison to the Staff is AOE damage. However, if you have enough skill points you can dip into the Wizard tree and grab Chain Hit and Mass Destruction. This will chain shock damage on a magic weapon critical. Combine that with Gem of Storms, and you can do even more AOE damage striking many targets with a lightning bolt.
While this doesn’t completely make up for the AOE damage compared to the Staff, the Wand has everything you want in a weapon. Range, damage, sustain, and it’s just simple to use. However, it doesn’t compare to the mighty power of the Bow, thus we rank it second on our weapons list in Enshrouded.
The best build for using a Wand and Shield is the Enshrouded Battlemage Build.
Enshrouded Best Wand

The best combination of gear for the Wand is Polymath’s Wand and Flaming Gauntlets. That’s because Flaming Gauntlets increase fire damage while the Wand has three bonuses of fire damage. Flaming Gauntlets are a unqiue set found in a gold chest at Gateway Outpost Endlfame (clear north).

These two combined does incredible single target fire damage. Throw on a Gem of Burning and while you have weaker AOE, the single target damage specifically to Shroud enemies is amazing. The weakness to this setup is you are specific to one element so some types will resist you. Second, the Fell Dragon fight will be annoying since your wand cannot reach and you’ll find yourself shooting stun arrows just to knock it down. Some other Wand options:
- Polymath’s: best for fire damage
- Ancient Drak Wand: best for shock build and using wet debuff
- Mythic Wand: shock damage and high critical chance
- Blizzard Wand: Ice focused
Look to increase your wand damage with your gloves and pick an element that you have optimized for via skills and you don’t have to do shock with the Wand.
3. Staff (Best AOE Spell Damage)

The Staff comes in at third best on our weapons list for Enshrouded due to it’s range burst damage and area (AOE) destruction. The mechanics of the Staff are a charge time based on your spell. You can cast eternal spells which never run out or individual one-time use spells which are more damage but require material. The one-time use spells are more powerful, similar to the Ranger’s Bow Special Arrows. The results? Absolute AOE devastation and the best way to clear waves of enemies quickly.

If you’re using Staves, look to take the Terror and Bloodletting skills in the Trickster skill tree. This gives you orbs when you critical strike that regenerate resource and stun targets. The effect is similar to the Bow, you launch a massive Fireball at multiple targets, stun lock them, only to cast another and destroy the group. You can further this devastation by adding two Wizard skills, Chain Hit and Mass Destruction which will shock enemies after dealing a critical. Thus, your weapon with precise trait for more critical chance becomes hyper important to make the most out of the massive AOE damage.
The major downside of the staff is the cast time. At the end-game, you will be charging a two-second fireball only to be interrupted, pushed back, or stunned. You then swap to the Wand so you can block or regenerate mana, create space, and try to rip off a two-second spell again. Add the complex crafting materials required to get one-time use spells or eternal and you end up with a weapon similar to the bow just with added cast time which cripples it’s overall effectiveness.
The Staff used to be the best weapon type, bar far, in Enshrouded. When you had unlimited sustain, you could use Acid Bite and kill a boss with one cast. However, as the game has balanced both damage, resource sustain, and spells, the Wand is a better choice for players due to it’s simplicity and defensive capabilities paired with a shield.
The best build for using a Staff is the Enshrouded Wizard Build.
Enshrouded Best Staff

Violet Storm is the best staff because it has Ruthless, Shock, and Opportunistic Traits. The three pair very will with the Eternal Chain Lightning Spell and Tidecaller Gloves (18% staff damage).

The combo gets even better with a new headpiece just for this combo called Circlet of Lightning. Increases your shock and critical strike chance against soaked enemies. As we explained the soaked debuff earlier, if you combine all of these pieces of gear and spell, you can absolutely rip through enemies like older patches. As an added bonus, the Chain Lightning Spell can stun enemies and with the Terror passive from Trickster, a critical can stun too. That gives you massive single target stun lock potential even on the Fell Dragon assuming you can reach it!
Major downside is, this combo is debuff focus, one element and lowers your overall AOE damage. The wand is just simpler and doesn’t require any fancy combo and starts and finishes stronger than the Staff currently. Here are some alternative staff to choose from:
- Violet Storm: best for Shock damage wet meta
- Staff of Guidance: high burst and fire damage
- Staff of the Moor: Resource sustain in mana, stamina, and health leech
- Oracle’s Everblue: Shroud based staff with amazing mana sustain
4. Greatsword / Two-Handed Weapons (Best Melee Cleave)

The best melee weapon and ranked four on our list is Greatsword introduced in Enshrouded Update 7. This is a two-handed weapon with heavy damage, built-in AOE, and two new skills. One skill, Titan Edge, gives Greatswords an additional damage boost. No other weapon can stack as many passive bonuses on top of each other to make this weapon type deal massive damage.

What gives it survivability is stacking health and using the Battle Heal skill passive in the tank tree. With this skill, your critical strikes heal you for 5% of your max health. If that weren’t enough, you can throw in two Gemini Rings, found in Moth’s Grove, early part of Enshrouded. The 7% Life Leech Chance means you will restore 50% of the damage you cause as health. The result of a huge critical or merciless attack is an instant heal to full! No other build has built-in damage or healing if you use this combo like the Greatsword.
There are two major disadvantages, the first being ranged damage. Unlike the Dagger and Bow combo, Two-Handed weapons scale in effectiveness with Strength as its attribute. If you want to use a Bow at range, well, you’ll either need another 100 skill points to make it effective or merely use it to stun range targets with stun arrows. Thus, you are forced into a nearly fully melee playstyle. The developers have added two skills to help called Giant Slayer Hook and Grounding Hook. These use your grapple to pull you or the enemy. It costs a ton of stamina and usually doesn’t work effectively against bosses, thus Greatswords’ biggest weakness.
The other weakness is a long swing animation. If you do a four swing chain, you can trigger the new skill called Whirlwind Crescendo. This is Enshrouded’s spin to win and gives you built-in AOE damage at the end of the attack chain, but for a brutal 75 stamina cost. Different two-handed weapon types have different swing animations, but Greatswords are uniquely hard to pull off and maintain a four-chain attack without getting interrupted.
Overall, Greatsword is super fun to play because you just swing away heal and do damage. You just struggle with range targets or when you get interrupted by another melee target otherwise we’d rank it higher on this list.
The best build for using a Greatsword is the Enshrouded Barbarian Build.
Enshrouded Best Two-Handed

Look to get the Champion’s Axe for your best two-handed weapon because it gives two lines of 5% health leech and precise. This allows you to forgo one gemini right for a ring of the ancients (5% melee damage) and still be just as survivable. Here are some alternative weapons choices for Two-Handed:
- Champion’s Axe: best all around especially with two health leech bonuses
- Frost Smasher: highest blunt damage and burst
- Horned Greatsword: good greatsword with stamina leech
Additionally, the Greatsword is a weaker weapon than the Axe. It takes four swings to activate whirlwind with a Greatsword while an Axe can do it with three and the animation is much faster.

Look to craft the Sunpiercer Gloves at end game to get two-handed damage specifically increased.
5. Daggers (Best Burst DPS / Stealth Assassins)

The fifth best weapon type is the Dagger which is quick striking and meant to burst enemies from stealth. The main strength of the dagger is the quick attack speed and that it scales in effectiveness with Dexterity. Unlike the Two-Handed Greatsword, you won’t struggle with range and melee stat distribution, just stack Dex and swap weapons to use them both effectively.

Moreover, the developers continue to give love to the Dagger weapon type. In update 7, they’ve added the skill Expose Weakness. When you crit with daggers, you increase damage dealt to that target by 25% of three seconds. Throw in that with all the poison passives and poison gem, and you have a unique damage over time build that is unique and fun.
In Update 8, Enshrouded’s stealth mechanics were vastly improved. Now, Stealth and Backstab builds offer a viable approach to combat.
However, you’ll often find yourself swapping to the Bow at range only to realize it does much more damage and you don’t have to play in melee. This sparks the question, why am I using Daggers? The answer is, you should be using a Bow as your primary weapon and Daggers as a secondary option when melee is required.
The best build for using the daggers is the Enshrouded Assassin Build.
Enshrouded Best Daggers

The best daggers are still the Crystal Knives because they give a poison chance and health leech. Anything that can trigger poison, more health on melee targets, or backstab damage are your go-to traits. Below are some additional dagger options for you:
- Crystal Knives: best all around bonuses
- Parade Daggers: best for merciless and Kick combo build
- Oath Breaker: good for using with fire gem
- Sandstorm Swiftblades: high backstab damage

The developers recently added an end-game unique item called Bloodfeather Gloves. While the Hunter doesn’t craft end game dagger damage gloves, these have been added to compensate and are found in tomb chest. Anything that boost backstabbing and dagger damage are your go to priorities when looking at gloves for your build.
Enshrouded Weapon Tier List Summary
| Tier | Weapon Type |
| S-Tier | Bows, Wands |
| A-Tier | Staff, Greatsword, Axes, Hammers |
| B-Tier | Dagger, Swords, Axes, Clubs |
| C-Tier | Explosives, Summoning Weapons |
How to get Weapons in Enshrouded

Most weapons are found randomly by killing bosses or looting silver chests or golden chests. Keep in mind, you cannot craft end game weapons in Enshrouded. Thus, you should spend some time grinding in your current location and marking maps and hope to get lucky. If you take a look at the picture above, you can find gold chests and mark them which give the highest chance of legendary weapon drops to unlock. We have a chest farming guide here.
Therefore, you want to login, setup flame altars near these chest, and make a rotation killing bosses, opening gold chests to be rewarded with that perfect weapon with the best trait for your character. Some may argue you can always go with the health leech trait which is effective on every build and playstyle. Note, since update 7, chests will take a long time to respawn and the log out and log in trick will not work as it did previously. Thus, it makes more sense to do a sweep of the chest locations then do other gameplay before checking some hours later.
Which Weapon Should You Use?
- New Players → Bow or Wand
- Solo Survivability → Wand & Shield or Bow builds
- Burst DPS / Endgame → Bow or Greatsword
- Group AOE farming → Staff
In Enshrouded, Bow, wand, and staff remain the best due to scaling, speed, and elemental synergy. As new patches roll out, expect buffs to ranged bows and heavy melee to keep pace with magic.
