The Best Builds for Enshrouded are defined by a combination of weapons, armor, skill choices, stat allocation, gems, and consumables that interact to create a strong combat identity. Weapons can roll powerful traits like Life Leech, gems provide targeted bonuses, armor sets enhance damage or defense, and food buffs tie everything together with key stat boosts. The build system is flexible enough that you can freely swap weapons mid-combat and mix skill trees to enhance both offense and survivability.
This guide highlights the Best Builds that stand out across all playstyles, providing recommended skills, gear setups, and combat strategies so you can immediately perform well at any stage of the game. Whether you prefer sneaking in from the shadows, firing arrows from range, or brawling face-to-face, these builds are designed to help you succeed in both exploration and the toughest boss encounters.
What are the Best Builds for Enshrouded in Update 8
The Ranger (Archer) build is the strongest build in Enshrouded due to its damage, mobility, and survivability. The Archer fires arrows that can hit up to three times, dealing the most damage possible single target and area (AOE). Plus, it has high mobility with Blink, allowing you to pick when you want to engage in combat or flee.

In Update 8, the Ranger skill node dominates with Increased Dexterity, Critical Chance, and Critical damage, giving you the most burst damage, and pairing directly with the Dagger secondary weapon choice.
The second best build is the Battlemage due to its range and resource sustain. The Wand regenerates mana passively and so does the Ward (shield), along with elemental resistances. Since Enshrouded food and resource sustain was completely reworked, the Battlemage shines in this new meta where you need range, sustain, and survival. Plus with the right gem and gear combination you can do great AOE and keep up with other high DPS builds.
The third choice is the Barbarian due to its damage, but passive healing with Battle Heal and Gemini Ring. Stack enough critical chance and Life Leech rings, the Barbarian can heal for 1,000 HP on large critical hits, making you near invincible, but lacking the range of the Archer.
The best builds in Enshrouded’s latest Update 8, from best to worst:
- Archer (Ranger) – best damage, mobility, and survivability all in one build.
- Battlemage – Balances survival, range DPS, and resource sustain.
- Barbarian – melee dominate with huge AOE damage and passive healing when dealing damage.
- Wizard – ranged AOE spells with good mobility, though less survivability than others.
- Assassin – burst damage and stealth focus, the Assassin shreds targets with poison and DOTs.
Build Changes in Update 8: Forging the Flame
This guide has been fully updated for Enshrouded’s Update 8: Forging the Flame. This patch introduced significant changes that directly impact builds and overall combat gameplay:
- Combat Special Abilities: A new “Focus” bar builds during regular attacks, allowing you to unleash devastating weapon-specific special moves. Consider these ultimates. However, the Staff doesn’t have one, and you must pick another kind. Additionally, you can build, swap weapons, and use any “ultimate” or special attack you’d like so expect to keep multiple weapons at all times. This is particular for a Bow who might want the Wand weapon attack for AOE add clear vs. single target.
- Heavy Attacks: hold down your attack longer and produce a heavy attack at the expense of stamina.
- New Melee Attacks: Added animations and abilities like gap closers, aerial strikes, and smoother combat flow.
- New Dodge Roll: a skill has been added in Survivor tree giving you iframe, or invincibility frame when dodging called Strategic Maneuver. For 1 skill point, you can get the sides much faster, but you cannot use blink skill.
- Physical Combat Overhaul: Attack chains for 2H axes, hammers, and greatswords have been completely revamped.
- Gear Upgrade System: You can now upgrade Armor, Shields, Wards, Rings, and Tools using Runes at the respective craftspeople (Blacksmith, Huntress, Alchemist).
- Skill Tree Revamp: The tree has been redesigned with better paths, new nodes, a zoom feature, and the ability to upgrade specific skills to higher levels.
- Advanced Enemy Stealth: Enemies now have noise awareness levels. They will investigate suspicious sounds before fully engaging, allowing for strategic stealth play.
- Skill Tree Reset: All characters will have their skill points refunded upon login.
5. Assassin (Dagger)

Below are the Assassin build features in Enshrouded:
- Primary Attribute: Dexterity
- Secondary Attribute: Constitution
- Primary Weapon: Daggers
- Ranged Weapon: Bow
- Best Armor: Bloodfeather
- Best Skills: Dagger Master, Expose Weakness, Graceful Stride, Slice and Dice
- Best Consumables: Stir-Fried Vegetables, Grilled Crab Meat, Herbal Mountain Tea
- Best Gems: Gem of Toxic Betrayal
Ranked number five is the Assassin build, which is a hybrid melee and range burst damage dealer focused on stealth and sneak. The Assassin is unique in that you use damage-over-time (DOT) by playing with dual daggers and taking skills in the Beastmaster tree. The build uniquely focuses on stacking the Dexterity attribute, as it simultaneously boosts the damage of both daggers (melee) and bows (ranged), allowing for a single primary offensive stat.

The Assassin build using Daggers and Bow receives more love in Update 8 with the two best offensive nodes being directly adjacent to the tree in Ranger called Fatal Precision and Ranger. The first grants critical damage, and critical chance, while the latter grants increase Dexterity. Simply put, no other build can increase their main stat (well besides the Ranger/Archer). HUGE advantage for the build but still some downsides.
The primary offensive mechanic for the Assassin and Dagger build revolves around positioning to land a Sneak Attack, Opportunity Attack, or the crucial Backstab for massive damage multiplication. The double jump skill is especially important for Assassins, as it greatly enhances mobility, allowing you to evade enemies and reach advantageous positions during both combat and exploration.
Assassin Build Pros
- Versatile Hybrid: Excels in both melee (daggers) and ranged (bow) combat, all scaling off one stat (Dexterity).
- High Burst Damage: Capable of huge damage through Sneak Attack, Backstab, and Stun Arrow setups, making it effective against tough bosses.
- Damage Over Time: Daggers apply Poison, and Shroud Arrows apply Shroud damage, allowing you to deal passive damage while repositioning.
Assassin Build Cons
- Fragile Survivability: Relies heavily on the Battle Heal critical-hit passive and gear with health leech, lacking the passive healing of Intelligence-based builds.
- Resource Intensive: Requires constant crafting of healing items (potions, bandages) and specialized arrows (Stun, Explosive) for optimal damage and survival.
- Positional Dependency: Optimal damage is tied to attacking from behind or while hidden, making high-mobility combat a necessity.
The main issue with the Assassin is the Stealth mechanic. In Update 8, the developers improved the mechanic, but it is still lacking compared to other RPGs. You still have to hide in bushes with a unusable burst mechanic outside of your initial attack. Thus, you attack in melee range, only to pivot back to Bow and wonder why you just don’t use the Bow entirely for you build? You should keep reading!

4. Wizard (Staff)

Below are the Wizard build features in Enshrouded:
- Primary Attribute: Intelligence
- Secondary Attribute: Spirit
- Primary Weapon: Staff
- Secondary Weapon: Wand
- Best Armor: Tidecaller
- Best Skills: Wizard, Mass Destruction, Radiant Aura, Blink
- Best Consumables: Algae Salad, Meat Wrap, Herbal Mountain Tea
- Best Gems: Gem of Burning
Coming next in Enshrouded Update 8 is the Wizard, the quintessential glass cannon, prioritizing raw magical damage and area-of-effect (AOE) spellcasting above all else. Magic damage is a crucial attribute for maximizing spell effectiveness and overall damage output, making it essential for any Wizard build. The primary weapon for the Wizard is the Staff, which requires a short charge-up but delivers massive AOE damage via spells like Eternal Fireball. Utilizing the acid bite spell or skill combo can further boost the Wizard’s damage output, especially when synergizing with the Staff in combat.
The build pulls skills from the Wizard, Battlemage, and Healer trees, focusing on maximizing the Intelligence attribute, which not only scales damage but also enhances crucial passive healing effects like Water Aura and defensive skills like Radiant Aura (against Shroud enemies). While powerful, the Wizard is highly fragile, demanding excellent mobility and positioning, mainly through the Blink skill, to create space for spellcasting and avoid interruptions.

Update 8 granted weapons specialization or abilities that act like ultimates. Oddly, the Staff didn’t get one…thus you must spec into Wand and use that weapon’s ultimate, unless I’m missing something? This is an odd design choice that might get fixed in the future, but currently, it’s weaker than the Wand, and more complex thanks to Update 7 and the Soaked debuff mechanic. The developers what you to use Chain Lightning, Soaked status effect, vs. the old try and true Fireball spam. While this can be effective, it just feels overall weaker than patches in the past where you could one-shot huge groups of enemies.
Wizard Build Pros
- Maximum AOE Damage: Staff-based spells and skills like Mass Destruction allow the Wizard to easily clear large groups of enemies quickly, dominating general combat.
- Intelligence Synergy: INT scales damage, passive healing (Water Aura), and utility, making stat investment highly efficient.
- Endgame Viability: Recognized as one of the strongest builds due to its exceptional range and built-in sustain (passive healing).
Wizard Build Cons
- Glass Cannon: Extremely low survivability and dependence on Constitution and mobility to compensate for low armor and defensive passives.
- Cast Interruption: Staff spells require a charge time, leaving the Wizard vulnerable to interruption if enemies get too close.
- Mobility Dependent: Must constantly use Blink and manage distance to survive and maintain spell uptime, which relies on Stamina.
This is the top-tier damage dealer for players who love high-risk, high-reward casting. The Wizard is rewarding for its destructive power and flashy spells, but demands skillful execution, situational awareness, and mastery of movement to avoid being instantly overwhelmed. It is the perfect build for players prioritizing offense and fun factor. However, you can find this build frustrating without high HP and constant dodge (blinks) to get out of the way. If it weren’t for lower survivability, we’d rank the Wizard higher on this list.

3. Barbarian (Two-Handed)

Below are the Barbarian build features in Enshrouded:
- Primary Attribute: Strength
- Secondary Attribute: Constitution
- Primary Weapon: Two-Handed Greatsword
- Ranged Weapon: Bow
- Best Armor: Sunpiercer’s Set
- Best Skills: Barbarian, Heavy Hitter, Whirlwind Crescendo, Two-Handed Specialization
- Best Consumables: Grilled Crab Meat, Roobios Tea, Open Sandwich
- Best Gems: Gem of Bleeding
If you want the most aggressive in-your-face combat, the Barbarian build is for you, ranking as the third-best build in Enshrouded. The Barbarian build uses massive two-handed weapons along with jump attacks for damage both single target and AOE. The core of this build is maximizing the Strength attribute (which is heavily boosted by food and the Barbarian skill) for raw damage, coupled with high Constitution to enable massive passive self-healing via the Battle Heal passive: Update 8 3% max health restored on a melee critical hit down from 5% in Update 7.

Update 8 granted some major changes to the Two-Handed playstyle, primarily fixing the Greatsword swing animation. Moreover, the skill Titan Edge was buffed granting 15% Greatsword damage for six skill points. If that weren’t enough, you can equip the Greatsword Gauntlets for another 21% damage, giving you the highest damage potential of any melee weapon.

Update 8 also nerfed Battle Heal by 2%, and gave armor and accessories item upgrades. With 5% health leech, you can ditch Battle Heal to save on skill points, or keep the skill to ensure high survivability. What will hold you back on the Barbarian / Two-Handed build currently is the massive amount of skill points you need. There are many damage dealing skill points and now you have to sacrifice either utility or raw combat power. The days of dipping into Ranger, all the way deep in the skill tree to unlock ranger and 5% critical are gone.
Barbarian Build Pros
- Highest Melee Damage: Stacks Strength via skills and consumables (Beef Stew, Open Sandwich) to achieve unparalleled two-handed weapon damage.
- Insane Self-Sustain: Combination of high max Constitution, Battle Heal, Gemini Rings (Life Leech), and weapon traits creates a loop of constant, massive healing during combat.
- Blood Rage Buff: Killing a low-HP enemy activates Blood Rage for a 20% damage boost, allowing for massive burst damage against bosses.
Barbarian Build Cons
- Fully Melee Focused: Highly vulnerable to ranged enemies; requires careful use of the Ground Hook skill or swapping to off-spec weapons (Bow/Wand) for utility.
- Stamina Intensive: The core offensive loop (Jump Attack, running, dodging) can quickly deplete stamina, especially early in the game.
- Weapon Type Locked: Damage is tied to specific weapon types (e.g., Blunt/Hammer) and corresponding skill passives (e.g., Hammer Time), limiting weapon flexibility.
The Barbarian is the best choice for tanky melee DPS. Its incredible damage output combined with unrivaled self-sustain makes it an unstoppable force in both solo and group play. It rewards an aggressive mindset and is highly effective at the current endgame, capable of “one-shotting” most enemies and bosses after executing a proper stun and backstab setup. However, the main drawback is lack of a range option, making the boss fights more difficult.

2. Battlemage (Wand)

Below are the main Battlemage build features in Enshrouded:
- Primary Attribute: Intelligence
- Secondary Attribute: Constitution
- Primary Weapon: Wand and Shield
- Ranged Weapon: Staff
- Best Armor: Flaming Gauntlets
- Best Skills: Wand Master, Life Burst, Blink, Water Aura
- Best Consumables: Algae Salad, Meat Wrap, Herbal Mountain Tea
- Best Gems: Gem of Burning
The Battlemage build comes in at the second spot on our best builds in Enshrouded ranking due to its survivability and utility in combat. By combining the defensive capabilities of a Wand and Shield with magical damage and healing, you play like a hybrid tank spellcaster with good damage.

In Update 8, the developers reworked the skill trees. This benefits the Battlemage Wand build because most of the juicy defensive survivability skills are located in the tree: Life Essences (max HP), Exalted (max INT), Life Burst (heal on kill), and Shared Misery (Shroud Resistance). Plus, you can dip over into the Guardian (formerly tank) tree and grab damage reduction nodes, Absorb mana on being hit, and massive HP boost. Plus, you gain Wand Specialization ability which is a ranged AOE damage ultimate, fitting perfect with a burning gem DOT combo.

Polymath’s Wand and others have a unique effect called Multishot where they shot an additional projectile but at reduced damage. This bonus stacks with Arcane Proliferation (chance for double projectile), resulting in many bolts of fire being shot at one time. Moreover, you can stack additional bonuses to fire damage specifically, making this combo absolutely melt single target or bosses. However, the Wand’s main downside is lack of far range like the Staff or Bow.
Battlemage Build Pros
- High Survivability: The Wand and Shield combo allows for blocking and parrying, providing exceptional damage mitigation that traditional casters lack.
- Mana Sustain: The Wand naturally restores mana, minimizing resource issues and allowing for sustained combat.
- Group Utility: Skills like Tower and Warden provide defensive buffs and healing (like Water Aura), making the Battlemage ideal for group play.
Battlemage Build Cons
- Lower Raw Damage: The focus on survival and the Wand limits overall burst and consistent damage compared to a pure Staff-wielding Wizard build.
- Gear Flexibility: Optimal end-game gear requires mixing sets (e.g., Hailcaster for offense, Blacksmith for defense) to balance scaling and health.
- Weapon Swapping: Requires carrying and swapping between the Wand/Shield (for defense/sustain) and a Staff (for AOE/heavy spells) to handle different combat situations effectively.

You can make an argument that the Wand is the best overall build, and if Bow didn’t have Explosive Arrows, we would agree with you still. This is the perfect build for anyone who loves magic but wants to have survivability and not craft spells or arrows every five seconds. Oftentimes we found ourselves playing the Wand because it’s easy, requires less thinking, and is more forgiving than other builds. But if you had 30 seconds to nuke a boss and not die…there is one better option and that’s the Archer.

1. Archer (Ranger)

Below are the Archer (Ranger) build features in Enshrouded:
- Primary Attribute: Dexterity
- Secondary Attribute: Intelligence
- Primary Weapon: Bow
- Secondary Weapon: Daggers
- Best Armor: Quetzal Hunter
- Best Skills: Ranger, Shell Shock, Chain Reaction, Fatal Precision
- Best Consumables: Chicken Soup, Roobios Tea, Taro Root Curry
- Best Gems: Piercing or Acrobatics
The Archer is just as dominate in Update 8 thanks to two skill nodes that carry damage: Fatal Precision (crit) and Ranger (Dex). No other skill tree has this much raw firepower in two skills, increasing your critical chance, critical damage, and main stat. Plus, each playstyle now has a node like Veiled Vigor which grants health based on your total Dexterity. With weapon Specializations (ultimates), the play between Dagger and Bow is just amazing.

You can still use high intelligence and Dessert Stomach to get decent healing with Water Aura. However, you don’t need that much healing thanks to Gemini rings and health leech from a weapon if you find one. Instead, you dodge spam or now Strategic Maneuver spam. This new dodge roll grants Iframes, giving you one frame or split second of invincibility. The bow/dagger combo is so good you almost think the developers at Keen Games have an archery set in their backyard begging you to play!
If you’re new to the game, the fire damage, explosive arrow stack is still as effective as other patches and updates. Load up on fire damage amplifications from consumables and passives, grab a bow with fire damage like Ignited Bow, and rip off huge AOE damage thanks to Chain reaction, Multishot, and Ricochet. The end result is a high-effort, high-reward playstyle that dominates the current endgame.

In Update 8, the Bow Archer build still dominates Enshrouded with one major downside and that’s constant arrow crafting. For optimal damage, you will need to constantly source materials to make Explosive Arrows. However, Explosive Arrows I are much easier to find than III, thus it’s not that big of a deal for end game players. Dodge, Explode Arrow everything, dodge, Bow Ultimate, it’s just still amazing, quick and fun in Update 8.
Archer Build Pros
- Highest Damage & Survivability: Top-tier output achieved from a safe distance, augmented by passive INT-based healing (Water Aura).
- AOE Mastery: Skills like Chain Reaction, Ricochets, and Multi Shot Spread synergize perfectly with Explosive Arrows for unmatched crowd control.
- Skill Nodes: The highest damage skill nodes that pair directly with a secondary weapon like Daggers giving you more weapon flexibility than other builds.
Archer Build Cons
- Resource Intensive: Optimal damage requires constant crafting and stocking of high-tier consumable arrows (Explosive, Shroud, Stun).
- Slow Start: Damage can be slow early on until key skills and the Eternal Ice Arrow (infinite use) are unlocked.
- High Stamina Demand: Reliance on Blink, Updraft, and continuous shooting demands constant stamina management, though food buffs help mitigate this.
The Archer is the undisputed S-Tier build for Enshrouded. While the need to farm arrow materials adds a high barrier to entry, the payoff is a versatile, high-mobility DPS machine capable of superior single-target damage, AOE control, and self-sustain. It is the best all-around option for players willing to invest the time in preparation and is likely to remain onto for many Updates and Patches to come in Enshrouded.

Enshrouded Builds Summary
Enshrouded’s build system is designed to empower players with a vast array of options, letting you craft a character that perfectly matches your preferred combat style. Whether you favor the brute force of melee and ranged weapons, the tactical edge of sneak attacks, or the devastating power of magical damage, the game’s flexible skill tree and attribute system allow for deep customization. Each enshrouded build is shaped by your choices in primary attribute such as strength for raw melee damage, dexterity for agile ranged attacks, intelligence for spellcasting, or constitution for high survivability, and further enhanced by secondary weapons, armor sets, and consumables.
Players can specialize in tanky melee builds that leverage battle heal, life burst, and the best armor to absorb incoming damage and deal massive damage up close. These builds often utilize skills like jump attack and evasion attack to control the battlefield and maintain high survivability. Alternatively, ranged builds focus on maximizing bow damage and ranged damage output, using skills like multi-shot, chain reaction, and explosive arrows to dominate from a distance. Dexterity and intelligence are key here, boosting both damage and resource sustain, while secondary weapons like the staff or wand add magical versatility.
Magic-based builds, such as the Wizard or Battlemage, excel at unleashing powerful spells and AOE damage, supported by skills like water aura, radiant aura, and chain heal for passive healing and group utility. These builds often rely on mana regeneration and spirit as a secondary attribute, allowing for sustained magical damage and crowd control. Stealth-focused builds, like the Assassin, capitalize on high burst damage through sneak attacks, surprise attacks, and poison effects, using dual daggers and the dagger master skill line to deal passive damage over time and quickly eliminate priority targets.
Choosing the right skills, weapons, and armor is crucial for maximizing your damage output and survivability. For example, the Ranger’s skill tree offers shell shock and chain reaction for crowd control, while the Barbarian’s blood rage and battle heal provide unmatched self-sustain. Consumables and gems further enhance your build, offering boosts to stamina regeneration, damage reduction, and critical hits.
Selecting the best armor sets, weapons, and accessories is also essential to maximizing your build potential. Remember that armor sets in Enshrouded do not offer additional bonuses based on wearing a specific number of armor pieces, so mix and match as you see fit.
Ultimately, the best enshrouded build is the one that delivers maximum damage, high mobility, and a fun factor that keeps you engaged. With so many weapon types, skill lines, and playstyles to explore, Enshrouded encourages experimentation – so try out different combinations, master the best skills for your approach, and become an unstoppable force in both solo and group combat!
