Enshrouded Barbarian Build Overview

The Barbarian build in Enshrouded focuses on melee combat using two handed melee weapons, jump attack, and aggressive play to do damage and passively heal. While your melee attacks can deal massive damage, you can also take on flying enemies thanks to a new grappling skill that pulls enemies to the ground. You gain healing via Battle Heal, allowing you to play ultra aggressive versus multiple enemies.
The downside to the Barbarian is the lack of a ranged weapon though it’s handy to keep a bow with Stun Arrows for boss fights or a wand with shield for extra range and quick blocks. However, you will mainly use physical damage with your melee strikes, speed, and stuns with Overpowered and Merciless attacks against blocking enemies.
At current end-game for Enshrouded 1.0 character level 50, and Gear Level 55, along with your core skills you will gain more tools to passively heal with gems, weapon traits, and consumables. However, the Barbarian remains one of the strongest builds in Enshrouded due to the massive damage (area) you can produce. Add some backstab skills for hitting enemies, stun your targets, and you can one shot most enemies including bosses. Let’s walk you through how to create the ultimate Barbarian build in Enshrouded with skills, gear, gems and more listed below.
Enshrouded Barbarian Build Summary
- Best Skills: Barbarian, Whirlwind Crescendo, Two-Handed Specialization
- Weapon: Champion’s Axe
- Armor: Sunpiercer’s Set
- Accessories: Gemini Ring
- Best Gems: Gem of Bleeding
- Consumables: Fried Rice, Crab Cakes, Coconana Smoothie
- Damage Type: Cutting / Axe
What’s New In Enshrouded 1.0?
The biggest changes for the Barbarian Build in Enshrouded 1.0 include the increased level cap for characters (level 50) and increased Gear Cap (level 55). This means you will want to swap out your weapons and armor to achieve the best results at end game. New spells have been added to the game, and more Eternal Spells and Eternal Arrow options now exist.
For leveling and progression, several new skills will be added to the Enshrouded skill trees. A new biome has been added in the Lava Biome that also includes floating islands. This new content will allow players to earn even more skill points to advance their build further into the skill trees and become more powerful.
New gems and consumables, food and drink options will be available as well so make sure to bookmark this page as we will work actively to update this build once Enshrouded 1.0 releases.
Barbarian Build Attributes and Optimization

In Update 8 of Enshrouded, armor and rings have additional bonuses for skills. The only skill to directly increase Strength (outside of strength nodes) is Barbarian. This change is important because no longer are armor sets merely about stat increases, but also critical skills that push your builds power even further.
Additionally, Update 7 overhauled food, so that too will no longer increase your max stats, but rather damage to range, melee, or magic. The result your primary stat (Intelligence) is harder to come by and skills that scale in effectiveness based on stats will be weaker.
The Barbarian’s damage scales in effectiveness with the Strength stat. Therefore, you want to pour skill points into strength and use food to increase for more damage. The only other way to increase damage besides skills and gear is through food like Open Sandwich which gives a percentage bonus to melee damage. We have a section below showing what you should pick.
Your second most important stat is Constitution which increases health. The most critical way to passively heal is through the Battle Heal passive. Dealing critical damage with melee weapon will heal for 5% of your maximum health. This means, the higher your health, the most passive healing you’ll get by dealing crits. If you take the suggested food and skills, you should be at 16 or higher constitution and at least 1,600 health. That’s around 100 healing each crit which doesn’t seem like a lot, until you wear two Gemini Rings each with +5% life leech chance. These three items together gives you incredible passive healing, but you need high critical chance and max health.
Lastly, stamina can be a concern early in the game especially when double jumping. You can either consume a stamina food or rely on stamina recharge food. If you’re desperate and stamina starve, try using a Staff or a Wand. While it will seem odd with low intelligence, it allows you to use another stat pool and or not drain in stamina. Thus, you can deal damage at range, recharge stamina, and double jump back into the melee fray.
In summary, focus on maximizing strength and constitution with some endurance and health generation for resource sustain.
Barbarian Build Skill Progression (Level 1-45)

Enshrouded skills are currently capped at 184 skill points at max level 45 (Update 8). The final zone is Veilwater Basin, and in each zone you can collect additional skill points from Shroud Root and Elixir Wells. Therefore, you should look to clear each zone of these before progressing alongside your level increase for max skill points.
When building an effective Barbarian, it is crucial to prioritize strength and weapon damage increase by selecting the best skills that directly enhance melee damage. Battle Heal will be a huge survival boost after double jump. At the start, double jump attack constantly to get space and AOE damage, then swap to more single target swings to heal. As you progress, you’ll want to kill a low HP target to trigger blood rage giving you a huge 20% damage boost for 20 seconds.
You need to mix many important nodes from the warrior skill tree, barbarian skill tree and others to optimize the Barbarian build. Just make sure you stick with one weapon type like Axe and Cutting damage based on your skill selection in the Warrior tree. All the skills you need to select are listed below in order.
Best Barbarian Skills
- Double Jump + Crash Down Attack: these skills combo together to give you some early survivability and AOE damage. When you double jump, attack immediately after to crash down for damage. NPC often times will have a slight knockback effect. You can then quickly follow up with another attack or sprint away for safety. Use Double Jump to get higher on ledges even if you have to widdle a target down with wooden arrows while your health regenerates in the early game.
- Battle Heal: the main source of built in survivability comes from battle heal. You get 5% health back on critical hits. Thus, your max health and how often you crit will determine how much this heals for. This bonus stacks with life leech on weapons and gemini rings. Ultimately, you want a couple sources of life leech because you aren’t playing at range. If you stack enough, you can swing endlessly without worrying about healing.
- Blood Rage: when you kill a target, you gain 20% increased melee damage for 10 seconds. You character will glow red and you’ll hear a sound with top left showing a buff icon. This is pretty obvious, but you want to start combat out by finding the weakest target and killing it to maintain this buff. Often times, even boss fights have one or two ads that you can kill to get huge damage bonus.
- Whirlwind Crescendo: added in update 8, you chain three attacks together without getting interrupted and you fire off this Whirlwind spin to win attack. The benefit is, it’s 360 radius and with Evasion Attack, it will automatically lunge to far away targets and hit them. The downside, it cost a lot of stamina to repeatedly do this. Therefore, sometimes you may just want to attack twice, move reset the animation and attack twice again to avoid excessive stamina usage.
- Giant Slayer Hook + Grounding Hook: these two skills were added for melee builds to deal with flying creatures. You either lunge forward to them like a gap closer, or you pull those annoying screaming birds down. Each action cost 50 stamina, and it can be difficult to do this over and over. You’ll see an icon light up like your grappling hook would display, that’s when you can activate grapple button and pull or lunge towards a flying target and smash them.
- Upwards Slash Attack: another useful skill for dealing with flying banshees and screaming birds added in update 8. This allows you to do an upward slash and only cost 25 stamina. The trip with the skill is to press jump then almost immediately attack. The ability reads at the ascent of your jump, meaning the top but it’s almost like jump, tiny delay, then attack and it will trigger. This is SUPER helpful for flying critters and its much lower stamina.
- Butcher + Slasher: we recommend the champion’s axe for this build and thus butcher and slasher are the damage type choices. However, if you change weapons or are using something else, make sure to swap these points. The developers recently moved the Veteran 10% bonus to where piercing nodes are. Seems a waste to take them, but you need to take both Thrust and Pierce because 10% critical bonus is too good to pass up.
Best Barbarian Armor, Accessories, and Sets

| Slot | Equipment | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Head | Sunpiercer Helmet | 13% Melee Critical Strike Chance 15% Crit Strike Damage 2min Wet Duration Reduction +1 Barbarian’s Path |
| Upper Body | Sunpiercer Chestplate | +360 Health +36 Stamina 3 Min Wet Duration Reduction +1 Blood Rage |
| Arms | Sunpiercer Gloves | 18% Two-Handed Damage 5% Damage Against Melee 1:30 Min Wet duration Reduction +1 Heavy Handed |
| Lower Body | Golden Bulwark Pants | +135 Health +9 Stam Regen 2 min Wet Duration Reduction +1 Shiny Plates |
| Feet | Quetzal Hunter Shoes | +18 Stamina Regeneration -0.4s Stamina Regen Delay 1:30 Min Wet Duration Reduction +1 Runner |
| Ring 1 | Gemini Ring (or Ring of the Ancients) | +30 Health +5% Health Leech +5% Damage against Fell +1 Well Rested +3 Health Regeneration +1 Inner Fires (+2 time in shroud) |
| Ring 2 | Gemini Ring (or Ring of the Ancients) | +30 Health +5% Health Leech +5% Damage against Fell +1 Well Rested +3 Health Regeneration +1 Inner Fires (+2 time in shroud) |
The best armor for the Barbarian build in Update 8 is the Sunpiercer set because you gain Two-Handed damage, critical strike chance and critical strike damage. There was a recently added two handed gloves that gives Greatswords specifically 21% melee damage. However, the Greatsword weapon type requires four long swings to activate Whirlwind Crescendo and it’s much harder to use than a quick striking Axe.
When assembling the best armor and gear, make sure you have enough survivability. This comes by using Gemini Rings which give life leech. You can also find other items with life leech on them. Drop one gemini ring for Ring of the Ancients if you have a lot of self-healing.
For boots, go with Quetzal Hunter Shoes because of stamina regeneration and you’ll start regenerating stamina faster which is helpful. The Golden Bulwart Pants gives you the most stats, so keep those on.
Early Game
When you start the game, you can craft the basic Rags from your manual crafting screen at level 3. From here, look to get a set of Fur armor at level 5 from the Blacksmith. Then, at level 8, you will get your first Barbarian-specific set via the Blacksmith called the Rising Fighter set. What’s confusing is, the armors offer similar bonuses, but not always identical. Here’s your starting armor priorities:
- Level 3: Rags (Manual crafting)
- Level 5: Fur Armor (Blacksmith)
- Level 8: Rising Fighter (Blacksmith)
As a general rule, your chest doesn’t offer much offensive bonuses thus you can wear tank set armor in the chest and legs and HP. Your gloves and head is where your damage sources come from while boots and legs are for regeneration and other stats. Therefore, be careful with your gloves and helmet selection as you want two-handed damage not dagger or something else. Since you’re playing a melee build using heavy armor, you can find all the items at the Blacksmith. If you struggle with stamina, look for some medium armor sets at the Hunter which offer better stamina regeneration.

If you can, get two Gemini Rings from the Fell Banshee in the Moth’s Grove area due north from the start. These help massively with health and survival.
Mid Game
After you’ve reached midgame, look to acquire these crafting sets for the Barbarian build:
- Level 13: Adventurer (Blacksmith)
- Level 18: Mercenary (Blacksmith)
- Level 23: Soldier (Blacksmith)
- Level 25: Radiant Paladin Armor (Kindlewaste world drop)
- Level 33: Mountain’s Shadow (Blacksmith)
You will also start finding “named” item sets that are usually +2 levels above. For instance, level 25 areas have the Radiant Paladin set. This is a better version of Soldier and can carry you to max level gear, at level 33. However, it’s often time not worth spending hours and hours getting this gear just to move off of it in a few hours of gameplay. Therefore, collect, store but don’t sweat the minor bonuses from crafting gear.
If your survivability is good, swap rings to Ring of the Ancients. This ring gives stat bonus of +1 to all, which increases your damage and self-healing. This is one of the only rings that can do so. You can find it from the boss in Northern area called the Pike or via chest in Kindlewastes.
Best-in-Slot Barbarian Gear Setup
For the best gear setup for an Barbarian, use this armor:
- Head: Sunpiercer Helmet
- Chest: Sunpiercer Chest
- Arms: Sunpiercer Gloves
- Lower Body: Golden Bulwark Pants
- Feet: Quetzal Hunter Shoes
- Rings: 2x Gemini Ring
Best Barbarian Weapons

| Item | Equipment | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Primary (Two-Handed) | Champion’s Axe | +20% Cutting Damage +20% Crit Strike Damage +5% Health Leech 5% Crit Strike Chance 5% Health Leech |
| Secondary (One-Handed) | Spine of Dalszul | 1 Renewal +10% Cutting Damage 20% Retaliation 5% health leech 5% mana leech |
| Range (Staff) | Staff of the Moor | +5% Health Leech +20% Magic Shroud Damage +5% Mana Leech +20% Magic Shroud Damage +5% Stamina Leech |
| Wand (Mana Regen) | Mythic Wand | +20% Magic Shock Damage 5% Mana Leech +20% Magic Shock Damage 5% Crit Strike Chance 5% Crit Strike Chance |
| Bow (Stun Arrows) | Devilish Bow | +20% Poison Damage +20% Backstab Damage 20% Crit Strike Damage Stam Regen on Kill +20% Backstab Damage |
| Shield | Prismatic Ward | 17 Block 268 Parry Power +7 Mana Regen +10% Ice Resistance +10 Shock Resistance |
The best weapon for the Barbarian in update 8 for Enshrouded is Champion’s Axe. This two-handed axe gives two bonuses to Health Leech, making you incredibly survivable. Moreover, you only take three swings to activate whirlwind (spin-to-wind) rather than four with a Greatsword. While Greatswords get more damage via one passive, it’s very hard to reliably get four swings without an interruption. Always look for health leech on your weapon, and if you swap, realize you need to make sure it’s cutting damage. Axes swing the fastest and thus you can activate whirlwind the easiest for the most AOE damage.
You will also want to keep some other weapons on you even if it seems odd. The Staff of the Moor is helpful because of all the leech bonuses. Even if you’re out of stamina, you can launch a Eternal Fireball merely to leech some resources back. Also, bringEternal Heal Channel with you. This allows you to use your dump stat, mana, into healing if you get a couple seconds mid fight or post fight.
The Wand with Prismatic Ward is a good combo just for walking around because both weapons give 10% mana regeneration. So, if you’re using updraft while traveling or healing after a fight, you will be out of mana. Swap to this weapon combo just to regenerate mana or mid-fight if you need to block quickly and get some range.
One-handed weapon with a shield is great for an alternative melee choice when you need to block but still have stamina to swing. Use this when you are trying to time perfect parries. The Spine of Dalszul is great because it has health and mana leech and reflects back some damage if you get hit. For the Fell Dragon fight, make sure you have a real shield not a Prismatic Ward as it’ll help with reflects.
Lastly, keep a bow on you if you need to stun or use shroud arrows for extra DOT damage. Oftentimes, you can just a staff with fireball for extra range damage because you’ll have extra mana. In the event you don’t have another backup ready and it’s helpful for the Fell Dragon fight as well.

The most important part of a Barbarian’s weapon choice is the type. The passive bonuses in the Warrior tree are weapon damage type dependent. Meaning, if you’re going to use the Frost Smasher (image above) at level 45, you should spec into the Hammer Time passive skills to boost one handed weapons and blunt damage. To that end, make sure your weapons are fully blunt or a specific damage type if possible. Some weapons like daggers will have two damage sources like piercing and cutting which requires more skill points.
Make sure to have three to four weapon types on your bar. While your primary will be two-handed weapon, it’s a good idea to keep a one hand and shield for blocking in close range. A wand with a shield is also handy for medium range attacks that don’t require stamina. Lastly, both a bow and staff can be useful. Bow for stun arrows and staff because you will have excessive stamina. When you’re completely drained of stamina, rotate backwards and fire off your staff to keep damage up even though you’re not optimized for it.
How to get Weapons

Most weapons are found randomly by killing bosses or looting chest. You cannot craft end game two-handed weapons for the Barbarian build. Thus, you should spend some time grinding in your current location and marking maps. If you take a look at the picture above, you can find gold chest and mark them which give the highest chance of legendary weapon drops.
Therefore, you want to login, setup flame altars near these chest, and make a rotation killing bosses, opening gold chest, and finding that perfect weapon with your ideal trait. You can always go with health leech which is effective on every build and playstyle. Note, in update 8, chest will take a long time to respawn and the log out and log in trick will not work. Thus, do a sweep of the chest locations then do other gameplay before checking some hours later.
Jump Attack Explained
The Jump Attack skill is your best friend early on. This will cost you stamina and be taxing at the very early part of the game. However, the attack somewhat stuns enemies and staggers them with a slight knockback. This allows you to double jump high and avoid pressure, slamming down in an AOE attack. Use this strategy to create space and swap to a range weapon like a wand to attack if you’re completely drained. Staffs and scrolls / spells are also a good choice as it’s brutal to maintain the constant double jump early.
However, it’s much easier to manage later on with food and consumables. Use this attack and try to get the flank or side of enemies. This will trigger backstab bonus damage giving you an extra damage multiplier. You’ll want to target the lowest HP enemy because kills can give you resources, HP, and or boost attacks depending on your skills.
Battle Heal Explained
The key to battle heal skill is critical chance and max health. The passive healing is based on your max health not your overall damage. A skill like Feast is helpful to boost your HP very high early on and get passive healing. Also look for the precise trait on weapons for a increase to critical chance. High critical chance and high HP work well with this setup.
Gemini rings give the Life Leech trait which restores 8% of health as damage dealt. If you’re using this combo, you want to stack critical damage so you get the highest amount of damage and burst healing possible. Remember that Battle Heal and Gemini ring health stack! You can even have life leech on your weapons as well, giving you absurd healing making you an unstoppable brute of a Barbarian.
Best Barbarian Consumables and Buffs
| Food | Type | Duration | Stats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fried Rice | Rare (Grain) | 45 min | +10 Stamina +21% Melee Damage |
| Crab Cakes | Rare (Meat) | 50min | +280 Health +21% DMG against wildlife |
| Popcorn | Rare | 4 min | +20 Stamina regen +4% melee damage |
| Black Coffee | Uncommon (Liquid) | 55 min | +30 Stamina +30 Stamina Regen +6% Melee Damage |
The best consumables for the Barbarian build are Fried Rice, Crab Cakes, Popcorn, and Black Coffee. You gain your melee damage bonus from Fried Rice, health from Crab Cakes, and resource sustain from Popcorn and Black Coffee. Plus Popcorn and Black Coffee also increase melee damage another 10% when combined!
Thanks to the Dessert Stomach passive skill (found in the Survivor skill tree), you can maintain up to four active food effects simultaneously. This is the key to maximizing your primary stats. All four of these items are crafted at the Farmer.
Focus on melee damage, health, and sustain, specifically stamina, for the best Barbarian build food in Enshrouded’s current update.
Utility & Healing: Potions, Bandages, and Elixirs
Beyond your four permanent food buffs, you need a reliable set of healing, utility, and special-area buffs.
Health regeneration and healing come in three forms: berries (slowest), bandages (sustained healing), and potions (instant burst). These can be crafted at the Alchemist or looted from the world.
- Superior Health Potion: Instant burst of +1000 Health. Your emergency panic button.
- Improved Bandage: Provides 8% healing per second for a short duration. Great for topping off between pulls.
- Superior Mana Potion: +250 Mana. Necessary for builds that use a strong-mana cost utility skill.
Damage and Specialty Buffs
These items offer powerful, temporary boosts for challenging content:
- Elixir: 20% damage against Fell.
- Flask of Fell: Provides +20 Stamina for 20 minutes.
- Ice Protection Lotion: Crafted / Hollow Drops +1 Ice Armor per Level for 30 min
- Greater Skull Summoning: summons a skull to fight, great distraction. Created at the collector.
Best Barbarian Gems

The Gem of Bleeding is the best Barbarian build gem in Enshrouded because it adds base Cutting damage and bleeds targets for extra damage on a critical hit. This allows you to swing wildly in an AOE and trigger many criticals. Then, you’ll get passive damage over time bleeding targets slowly. Plus, the base gem last for almost 7 seconds, ensuring almost 100% up time on this debuff.
A couple of alternative gems are Gem of Bloodlust and the Gem of Battle Mania.
Gem of Bloodlust (The Healer): The Gem of Bloodlust transforms high enemy density into your primary healing mechanic, turning every major fight into a massive source of sustain. Downside, it requires a kill and a proc chance to give you health back when you already have Gemini Rings and Battle Heal.
Gem of Battle Mania (The Sustainer): The Gem of Battle Mania provides incredible resource regeneration, Health, Stamina, and Mana, but requires you to maintain an active buff, perfectly aligning with the Elixir usage and aggressive playstyle of a Barbarian. Downside, you have to spam Elixir’s in order to make this function and they are not craftable currently.
Rotation and Combat Tips for Barbarian

For the Barbarian in combat, you want to open by sprinting and rushing a target then double jumping to initiate a jump attack. This will slightly stun and do area damage to one or more targets. Evasion Attack also acts as a gap closer using a light attack to leap forward.
From here, you want to rotate to the side always trying to trigger backstab damage. When you need a breather or AOE damage, double jump attack to stagger enemies. When you run out of stamina, backpedal and use a spell or scroll with a staff or even a wand to keep damage up. Save enough stamina that you can block and or use a bow if you must.
Always look for the lowest HP target to kill at the start of battles to trigger Blood Rage, boosting damage by 20% for 10 seconds. Usually bosses will have one or more critters around them you can kill quickly and see a red effect on your character before pivoting back to the boss. Also, always keep potions and bandages on you, using burst and heals over time to sustain you if you don’t have life leech rings or weapons.
For flying creatures, either jump and upward slash or use the grappling mechanic. If you get low on stamina, swap to a wand and hit targets at range and tap block to time it. Remember you are rewarded for attacking and dealing crits and life leech, so be aggressive unless you are a quarter health then consumable or heal with staff.
Best Glider
The best Glider for this build in Enshrouded is the Ghost Glider. The Ghost Glider is a level 30 legendary glider with increased range and speed compared to others in the game. Unlike previous Gliders which can be crafted, you must find this one in a Gold Chest at the top of the South-East Sun Temple.
Travel south from the Kindlewaste Ancient Spire and past the Scatterbone Scavenger area. The Ghost Glider is through the temple which will require some fighting and puzzles.
