This guide has been updated for Enshrouded Update 8, Forging the Path. Expect many combat changes, including heavy attacks, weapon abilities (ultimate), and revamped skill tree. Moreover, the gear like armor and accessories can now be upgraded, giving you even more bonuses and options. Below we go through the entire updated build giving you tips and selections to make the Wizard build shine in 2026.
Enshrouded Staff Build Overview

The Staff weapon is a powerful choice and making a build centered on it involves using elements, soaked debuff, and spells. What’s unique about the Staff is, your weapon takes a longer charge time to deliver damage in comparison than the Wand. The advantage is, massive area (AOE) damage and a variety of spells on demand. Moreover, the Staff can be used to heal yourself or allies, granting you unmatched utility. And if that weren’t enough, you have max range, and can target enemies before they see you or can reach you.
The downside is two fold; mana for spells and cast time. Enshrouded’s newest regeneration system isn’t as robust as previous patches, therefore, you can run out of mana frequently. The way to counter this is swapping to a Wand and building up resources then swapping back. Secondarily, the cast times can be annoying because your spell can be interrupted before firing. Therefore, mobility is key, and you need to constantly create space by blink / dodge to ensure a successful spell cast.
This Staff build is perfect for players who love glass cannon, high risk, high damage playstyle with massive damage and fun factor.
Watch Soaked Debuff Explained
Soaked and Wet Debuff Explained

Before you read any further, you must understand the new wet and soaked debuffs. When you dip into the water, you may become wet. If you swim fully, you will be soaked for a brief time (30 seconds). While soaked, you have fire resistance but less shock and ice resistance along with stamina regen reduction. After the soaked debuff has finished, you will have roughly 7 minutes of “wet.” During this wet time, you can apply the Soaked debuff to enemies with a newly introduced gem, the Gem of Currents, found in Veilwater Basin.

The reason this is important is for gear to take additional effects. Opportunistic increase critical chance against soaked enemies by 10%, which is double the precise trait. Ruthless, increases critical damage by 30% against soaked enemies, a 10% increase from brutal. Moreover, the Circlet of Lightning increases the critical strike chance of 21% against soaked enemies.

Therefore, to get the most out of a Staff build, you must not only understand the new debuff, but use it. You will see the three rain sprinkles on an enemy once applied, and your damage will skyrocket with proper setup and gear. The simplest way to implement wet is to dip into water, get soaked, then venture out. You can also throw water ballons and find new water sources. This might be slightly annoying for tough boss fights, but it will make a massive difference due to the new gear, skills, etc. implemented in Enshrouded.
TLDR Staff Build

- Best Skills: Blink, Terror, Thunder, Mass Destruction
- Weapon: Violet Storm (Staff)
- Armor: Circlet of Lightning
- Accessories: Ring of the Ancients
- Best Gems: Gem of Currents
- Consumables: Algae Salad, Meat Wrap, Herbal Mountain Tea, Strawberry Milkshake
- Best Spells: Eternal Chain Lightning, Eternal Fireball II, Eternal Heal Channel
Attributes Distribution and Optimization – Staff

In Update 8 of Enshrouded, you will now find that armor and rings have additional bonuses for skills. The only skill to directly increase Intelligence (outside of intelligence nodes) is Exalted. This change is important because no longer are armor sets merely about stat increases, but also critical skills that push your builds power even further.
Additionally, Update 7 overhauled food, so that too will no longer increase your max stats, but rather damage to range, melee, or magic. The result your primary stat (Intelligence) is harder to come by and skills that scale in effectiveness based on stats will be weaker.
For the Staff, your most important attribute is intelligence which increases staff and wand damage. Spirit is how much mana you have in order to cast spells and is the secondary attribute to consider. Lastly, Constitution is your overall health which is important even on a Staff build so you don’t get one-shot by bosses or enemies.
One way to get better overall stats and attributes is through the Dessert Stomach passive in the Survivor skill tree. This allows a fourth food slot. While you won’t need it in the early game, late game it can be helpful to increase overall regeneration, specifically stamina. With high comfort and rested stamina, you can dodge or blink repeatedly to create space, making sure enemies don’t hit you. Combine all this together, you should have plenty of max stats to not only deal massive damage but take some incoming damage.
Staff Build Skill Progression (Level 1-45)

The Staff build will focus on the Wizard, Battlemage, and Trickster skill lines. It might seem odd taking skills from the Ranger and the Tank, but they can help. Ranger (the skill) gives 5% critical chance and is one of the only ways outside of gear to increase critical. Meanwhile, the Tank skill tree has multiple nodes to reduce damage and is super helpful when not playing a high HP build.
Enshrouded skills are currently capped at 184 skill points at max level 45 (Update 8). The final zone is Veilwater Basin, and in each zone you can collect additional skill points from Shroud Root and Elixir Wells. Therefore, you should look to clear each zone of these before progressing alongside your level increase for max skill points. Below we list the best skills to select in order for the Ultimate Staff build in Enshrouded:
Best Staff Armor, Accessories, and Sets

| Slot | Equipment | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Head | Circlet of Lightning | +54 Mana +18 Mana Regeneration +15% Shock Damage +21% Crit Strike Chance vs. Soaked +2 Spellslinger +1 Terror +1 Thunder |
| Upper Body | Tidecaller Tunic | +180 Health +144 Mana 3 Min Wet Duration Reduction +1 Wizard |
| Arms | Tidecaller Gloves | +18% Staff Damage +13% Damage Against Magic enemies 1:30 Min Wet Duration Reduction +1 Quick Charge |
| Lower Body | Tidecaller Pants | +54 Mana +12 Mana Regen 2 min Wet Duration Reduction +1 Bloodletting |
| Feet | Tidecaller Shoes | +24 Mana Regen -0.4s Mana Regen Delay 1:30 Min Wet Duration Reduction +1 Necromancer |
| Ring 1 | Ring of the Ancients | +4 Health Regen +5 Mana Regen +4 Stamina Regen +1 Warrior’s Path +1 Mage Apprentice +1 Marksman +1 Well rested +5 Critical Strike Chance |
| Ring 2 | Gemini Ring | +30 Health +5% Health Leech +5% Damage against Fell +1 Well Rested +3 Health Regeneration +1 Inner Fires (+2 time in shroud) |
Circlet of Lightning is the best piece of gear for the Staff build in Enshrouded, while Tidecaller is the best set. The Circlet of Lightning headpiece is a unique armor found in the Endflame Scavenger camp and it gives 15% shock damage and a massive 21% critical chance against soaked targets. This piece of gear is specific for players using the Lightning specific loadout, and if they apply the Soaked debuff via the Gem, will deal massive amounts of damage. Tidecaller is the set that increases staff damage, magic critical, and critical chance.
When it comes to rings and accessories, use one Gemini Ring and one Ring of the Ancients. Gemini contains life leech chance which stacks with Life Burst skill. Meanwhile, the Ring of the Ancients gives a 5% damage bonus to magic. If you have great survival, use two Ancients, or weak survival, use two Gemini rings.
Early Game
The first set of armor you can craft is at level 3, rugged via your manual crafting menu. After this, unlock the Blacksmith craftsperson and craft the Fur armor set. It won’t give you any magical bonuses, but it’s helpful to increase survivability. Shortly thereafter, you can unlock the Alchemist and craft your first magical set, Alchemist Apprentice at level 8. Look at the bonuses in the hat and gloves and focus on wand damage vs. staff or healing. Below is the order to follow for the best start with armor on the Staff build:
- Level 3: Rugged (manual crafting menu)
- Level 5: Fur Armor (blacksmith)
- Level 8: Alchemist Apprentice (alchemist)
- Level 13: Mage (alchemist)
As a general rule, your chest doesn’t offer much offensive bonuses thus you can wear “melee” and gain lots of HP. Your gloves and head is where your damage sources come from while boots and legs are for regeneration and other statuses. Therefore, look to take a chest piece from the blacksmith, and head and gloves from Alchemist. You can even take more mana generating in legs and boots from Alchemist, or go for more health regeneration via Blacksmith. Either way, look at the gloves and head to optimize for critical.

If you can, get two Gemini Rings from the Fell Banshee in the Moth’s Grove area due north from the start. These help massively with health and survival.
Mid Game
After you’ve reached midgame, look to acquire these crafting sets:
- Level 18: Magician set
- Level 23: Archmage set
- Level 25: Elder set
- Level 33: Thaumaturge set
You will also start finding “named” item sets that are usually +2 levels above. For instance, level 25 areas have the “Elder” set. This is a better version of Thaumaturge and can carry you to max level gear, at level 33. However, it’s often time not worth spending hours and hours getting this gear just to move off of it in a few hours of gameplay. Therefore, collect, store but don’t sweat the minor bonuses from crafting gear.
If your survivability is good, swap rings to Ring of the Ancients vs Gemini Ring. This ring gives stat bonus of +5% bonus to magic damage, which helps nuke things much faster. You can find it from the boss in the Northern area called the Pike, or via a chest in Kindlewastes.
Best-in-Slot Staff Gear Setup
For the best gear setup for an Staff, use this armor:
- Shield: Prismatic Ward (Blacksmith)
- Head: Circlet of Lightning (Veilwater Basin)
- Chest: Tidecaller Tunic (Alchemist)
- Arms: Tidecaller Gloves (Alchemist)
- Lower Body: Tidecaller Shoes (Alchemist)
- Feet: Tidecaller Shoes (Alchemist)
- Ring 1: Ring of the Ancients (Kindlewastes)
- Ring 2: Gemini Ring (Springlands)
Best Staff Weapons

| Item | Equipment | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Primary (Staff) | Violet Storm | Shock Damage Precise Spiritual Opportunistic Ruthless |
| Secondary (Wand) | Mythic Wand | +20% Magic Shock Damage 5% Mana Leech +20% Magic Shock Damage 5% Crit Strike Chance 5% Crit Strike Chance |
| Bow (Stun Arrows) | Avalanche Starter | +20% Piercing Damage +20% Piercing Damage 20% Crit Strike Damage 3 Stamina Regen +5% Health Leech |
| Axe (Pot Breaking) | Champion’s Axe | +20% Cutting Damage +20% Crit Strike Damage +5% Health Leech 5% Crit Strike Chance 5% Health Leech |
| Shield | Prismatic Ward | 17 Block 268 Parry Power +7 Mana Regen +10% Ice Resistance +10 Shock Resistance |
Violet Storm is the best staff for this build because of it’s increased critical chance and critical damage fighting soaked enemies. Assuming, you’re applying this debuff with the Gem of Currents, you can constantly keep up the soaked debuff and increase your damage dramatically. Look for any staff that has bonuses to shock damage, critical chance, and critical damage.
Next, you will want a wand that also does Shock damage. The downside is, you will be limited in elemental damage, and thus might fight enemies that are resistance. However, your skills optimize for Shock damage, so it makes the most sense. Swap to the wand when you run out of mana or need to hold a shield and block. Both the Wand and Shield (ward) now have mana regeneration passively plus a skill returns mana.
Lastly, you will want a weapon to break pots and barrels and collect materials as well as the Bow. The Bow with stun arrows is the easiest way to beat the Fell Dragon Youngling. It also can be helpful to shot a Shroud arrow for damage over time then swap to the Staff.
How to Get Weapons

Most weapons are found randomly by killing bosses or looting chest. You cannot craft end game Staff and Wand weapons for this build. Thus, you should spend some time grinding in your current location and marking maps. If you take a look at the picture above, you can find gold chest and mark them which give the highest chance of legendary weapon drops. The best area is the northwest after you’ve upgraded your flame to rank 9.
Therefore, you want to login, setup flame altars near these chest, and make a rotation killing bosses, opening gold chest, and finding that perfect weapon with your ideal trait. You can always go with health leech which is effective on every build and playstyle. Note, in update 7, chest will take a long time to respawn and the log out and log in trick will not work. Thus, do a sweep of the chest locations then do other gameplay before checking some hours later.
Best Staff Spells & Charges

Eternal Chain Lightning is the best spell for the Staff build because of the shock damage, filling of the enemies stun bar and it can jump to other enemies. This spell won’t have as much AOE as a Fireball, but it fills up the stun bar and stacks with the Terror skill from Trickster. Therefore, you will have a reliable way to stun targets over and over preventing them from reaching you. Moreover, the cast time is 1 second vs. 2, so while you sacrifice some AOE, you melt enemies with shock damage and stun lock them.
Below are our other recommended spells:
Offensive Spells
- Eternal Fireball II – High damage, area‐of‐effect fire spell. Strongest all-round offensive pick after acid was nerfed. Best when you have the mana and cast time.
- Eternal Lightning Channel – single target hold the button down version of Chain Lightning.
- Eternal Ice Bolt II – Best early “eternal” option. Slightly lower damage than Fireball, but faster cast (~1s) and good for spamming.
- Eternal Acid Bite – Poison spit style, previously top tier, but it was nerfed and now underperforms compared to Fireball in many cases. Use it situationally (e.g., poison-vulnerable mobs) rather than default.
- Shroud Meteor – Ultimate “burst” option. High damage, but long cast time (3 s+), making it riskier.
Utility / Healing Spells
- Eternal Heal Channel – Channelled healing: you hold the spell and heal over time. Excellent solo survival tool.
- Eternal Chain Heal – Good for multiplayer or support wizard roles: the heal bounces between allies.
- Eternal Light Burst – Lower damage, but area-effect “burst” spell that hits 360° around you; useful for crowd control or repositioning in tight situations.
Niche / Situational Spell
- Bone Channel II – Added in the “Hollows” dungeon update: designed for undead skeleton-type enemies (in the Hollows). Strong damage, channelled effect, but there is no eternal version yet (so it uses charges).
- Limited range and higher crafting cost (requires Ectoplasm Fragments + Giant Bones).
- Use for specific dungeon runs/bosses rather than general use.
Recommended Staff Spell Loadout
Putting it all together for a wizard build:
- Early game: Prioritise unlocking Alchemist NPC → craft Ice Bolt I (regular) + Fireball I charges. Use healing channel/chain heal for sustainability.
- Mid game: Unlock Eternal Ice Bolt, Eternal Fireball. Use Fireball as primary damage, Ice Bolt as backup/faster cast.
- Boss/final content: Craft Shroud Meteor (for big burst), maintain Lightning Channel for sustained fights, and keep healing spells ready. Consider Bone Channel I for Hollows dungeon runs.
- Gear & stats: Focus on Intelligence (spell damage/staff bonus) and Spirit (mana pool). Invest in gear that boosts these. Use a staff as your main weapon, but consider having a wand+shield combo handy for defense since staffs prevent blocking in many cases.
- Always be mindful of cast time & vulnerability: Long cast spells (e.g., Shroud Meteor, Acid Bite) leave you exposed. Use terrain, cover, or crowd control to protect your cast.
- Elemental diversity matters: Fire is generally strong vs many Shroud enemies. Ice gives control/speed. Poison/acid works situationally. Having multiple options allows adapting to enemy resistances.
- Crafting & prep: Keep stock of materials for your favourite spells. Eternal spells are “craft once, infinite uses,” so invest for long-term.
Best Staff Consumables and Buffs
Algae Salad is the best consumable for the Staff build because it boosts magic damage by 21% and adds +120 mana. Consumables were reworked in Update 7 and no longer give raw stats like +1 intelligence. With the Dessert Stomach skill from the Survivor tree, you can maintain four food buffs simultaneously. Therefore, make sure to have a buff for health, regeneration, stamina, and magic damage. You can craft all the best consumables below at the Farmer Craftsperson:
| Food | Type | Duration | Stats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Algae Salad | Rare (Mushroom) | 45 min | +120 Mana +21% Melee Damage |
| Meat Wrap | Uncommon (Meat) | 50min | +200 Health +6% Magic Damage |
| Strawberry Milkshake | Rare (Fruit) | 50 min | +18 Health Regeneration +12 Stamina Regeneration |
| Herbal Mountain Tea | Uncommon (Liquid) | 40 min | +100 Mana +50 Stamina |
Best Staff Buffs & Combat Consumables
Beyond food, Enshrouded offers powerful alchemical and scroll-based buffs that dramatically increase Staff build effectiveness. These effects can stack with food bonuses, providing massive magic amplification, sustain, and defense.
| Item | Type / Source | Effects |
|---|---|---|
| Prayer of the Flame Scroll | Looted | +20% Increased Fire damage |
| Elixir | Looted | +20% damage against Fell |
| Greater Skull Summoning Vessel | Hollow Dungeon | Summons a temporary skull ally |
| Ice Protection Lotion | Crafted / Hollow Drops | +1 Ice Armor per Level for 30 min |
| Superior Mana Potion | Crafted (Alchemist) | Restores +250 Mana |
| Superior Health Potion | Crafted (Alchemist) | Restores +1000 Health |
| Flask of the Fell | Crafted (Alchemist) | +20 Stamina for 30 min |
| Greater Shroud Survival Flash | Looted | +4 Min Time in the Shroud |
Early Game Consumable
At the start of your adventure, stick with simple but effective foods and ingredients:
- Meat for increased Constitution (survivability).
- Mushrooms for higher Intelligence and spell scaling.
- Berries for natural health regeneration.
As you recruit the Farmer NPC, invest in expanding her recipe list to unlock higher-tier options like Glow Soup, Milkshake, and Pumpkin Soup. Pair these foods with Alchemist
Best Staff Gems

Gem of Currents is the best for the Staff build because it triggers extra shock damage on soaked enemies and triggers shocked to enemies. All you need to do is be wet or soaked by dipping in the water, and you can cause the Soaked debuff to the enemies and then expect extra damage via passives and gear.
You can get the Gem of Currents by killing Drak Warriors in the Veilwater Basin Region.
Rotation and Combat Tips for Staff
The goal of the staff build in combat is to apply the soaked debuff then rip off massive shock damage spells at safe distance. Step one is to get the wet debuff by finding a source of water and immersing yourself. Once you have the debuff, travel out and use a Staff with Gem of Currents equipped. When you do damage and trigger soaked to the enemy, you will see an icon on their bar three rain drops. This means they are soaked and take extra shock damage.
Once you have the terror passive, if you are at max range, shoot a fireball. This gives a chance to stun the target with a critical and you can keep repeating until they get close or swap immediately to Chain Lightning. Once inside your range, dodge or blink so you can cast for one second to shock them. If they are stunned, rotate behind them for extra backstab damage. Once your mana runs out, swap to wand and use light attacks at medium range and rotate to avoid incoming damage. Swap back to Staff when your mana is back and repeat the process.
Best Glider
The best Glider for this build in Enshrouded is the Ghost Glider. The Ghost Glider is a level 30 legendary glider with increased range and speed compared to others in the game. Unlike previous Gliders which can be crafted, you must find this one in a Gold Chest at the top of the South-East Sun Temple.
Travel south from the Kindlewaste Ancient Spire and past the Scatterbone Scavenger area. The Ghost Glider is through the temple which will require some fighting and puzzles.
