This guide has been updated for Enshrouded Update 8, Forging the Path. Expect many combat changes, including heavy attacks, weapon abilities (ultimate), and revamped skill tree. Moreover, the gear like armor and accessories can now be upgraded, giving you even more bonuses and options. Below we go through the entire updated build giving you tips and selections to make the Tank build shine in 2026.
Enshrouded Tank Build Overview

The Tank build in Enshrouded is designed for group play, or players who want maximum survivability. With a Tank, you can generate threat or aggro, forcing enemies to attack you. This is done by attacking first, consistent damage, or healing. This is perfect for solo or group play where survivability is key.
The downside of the tank build is it’s designed for survival, and not damage. Therefore, it can be slower to level or progress than others and is more melee focused and complex. At higher levels, you can heal, mitigate damage for other players, and even generate more threat. Simply put, you will be walking juggernaut, aiding others including yourself with passive healing, damage reduction, and resource sustain. This will come at a cost though, as you will have less damage than a Ranger or Wizard build.
Another advantage to the tank is an extra food slot via the Dessert Stomach skill passive. Since there are so many skills in the game, at max level, you can unlock another food slot. While this doesn’t sound impactful, it let’s the Tank build have high intelligence and skills like Life Burst and Water Aura. This gives you ways to passively heal or burst heal from kill enemies with a magical weapon. Therefore, you can attack with versatility, using sword and shield, wand and shield, or even a Staff with Healing Channel.
Below we walk you through how to setup a tank build in Enshrouded with the latest patch.
Enshrouded Tank Build Summary
- Best Skills: Merciless Attack, Nemesis, Thick Skin
- Weapon: Mace of Wrath
- Armor: Golden Bulwark
- Accessories: Ring of the Ancients
- Best Gems: Gem of Retaliation
- Consumables: Grilled Crab Meat, Roobios Tea, Open Sandwich, Strawberry Milkshake
Stat Distribution and Optimization for the Tank Build

In Update 8 of Enshrouded, you will now find that armor and rings have additional bonuses for skills. For increasing Strength, you will need to increase Strength nodes and the skill in Guardian called Thick Skin. Expect the skill trees to be much different in this update and take more points to reach the final area.
Additionally, Update 7 overhauled food, so that too will no longer increase your max stats, but rather damage to range, melee, or magic. The result your primary stat (Strength and Con) is harder to come by and skills that scale in effectiveness based on stats will be weaker.
The two most important stats for the tank build in Enshrouded are Constitution (health) and Intelligence. Constitution determines your overall health and survivability. You’ll also want to equip high physical resistance gear since melee combat will be dominant. Look for any gear or items that boost parry or block as well to increase overall survival.
While intelligence seems like an odd stat, many other passives are influenced by it. Water Aura, for instance, gives you or group members within 15 meters health per second based on your intelligence. Life Burst gives everyone health based on your intelligence when you kill an enemy with a magic weapon (wand). With high constitution and intelligence, any time you kill an enemy, you and party members will get health or mana back, making you a resource sustaining machine.
The next critical stat is Endurance, or overall stamina. You will need a high amount of stamina to hold block, jump attack, and dodge frequently. Look to boost endurance and stamina regeneration with food so you can more around the battlefield with ease. Use your mana pool for healing with Healing Channel. Only do this when you don’t need to block and can avoid attacks for a few seconds. Going back and forth from melee to magic weapons will help your resource sustain, survivability, and group if playing with one.
In summary, prioritize Constitution and Intelligence first. Then focus on Endurance so you can block and dodge. Lastly, add minor stats like parry and block to help with holding and timing blocks (more info below).
Tank Build Skill Progression (Level 1-45)

Enshrouded skills are currently capped at 184 skill points at max level 45 (Update 8). The final zone is Veilwater Basin, and in each zone you can collect additional skill points from Shroud Root and Elixir Wells. Therefore, you should look to clear each zone of these before progressing alongside your level increase for max skill points.
The most important skill lines for this build are Tank and Healer. The Tank skill tree has damage reduction, survivability, and more armor. While the Healer gives you mobility, passive healing, and revive speed if playing in a group. Since there are so many skill points in the end-game of Enshrouded, take Dessert Stomach in Survivor later in the game as it’s massive boost to your overall stats.
Below we list the best skills to select in order for the Ultimate Tank build in Enshrouded:
Best Tank Armor, Accessories, and Sets

| Slot | Equipment | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Head | Golden Bulwark Helmet | +44% Merciless Damage +71 Parry Power 2 Min Wet Duration Reduction +1 Purification |
| Upper Body | Golden Bulwark Chest Plate | +360 Health +9 Health Regen 3 Min Wet Reduction +1 Heavy Plates |
| Arms | Golden Bulwark Gloves | +5% Melee Damage +6 Block 1:30 Min Wet Reduction +1 Soul Leech |
| Lower Body | Golden Bulwark Pants | +135 Health +9 Stam Regen 2 Min Wet Reduction +1 Shiny Plates |
| Feet | Quetzal Hunter Shoes | +18 Stamina Regeneration -0.4s Stamina Regen Delay 1:30 Min Wet Reduction +1 Runner |
| Ring 1 | Commander’s Ring | +40 Health +16 Mana +8 Stamina +1 Bash +1 Heavy Plates +5% Health Leech |
| Ring 2 | Commander’s Ring | +40 Health +16 Mana +8 Stamina +1 Bash +1 Heavy Plates +5% Health Leech |
The best gear set for the Tank build in Enshrouded is the Golden Bulwark set. This is a level 43 craftable set made by the Blacksmith after you’ve unlocked Veilwater Basin. It gives a +6 block, which is your primary stat focus alongside Parry Power. Moreover, you get a decent boost to melee damage by 5%, so it helps with damage and survivability.
When gearing a Tank in Enshrouded, your main priorities are maximum survivability, consistent stamina economy, and reliable enemy control. Your build revolves around one-handed weapon + shield, so the goal is to maximize your HP, Armor, and Mitigation, while maintaining enough damage to hold aggro through threat and parries.
Rings & Accessories (Defense and Mitigation First): Your accessories are where you reinforce your survival layer. Max health, stamina, endurance, or recovery.
Chest & Legs (High HP and Armor Core): Your Chest piece is your single largest source of raw HP and armor. Your Legs typically contribute major armor and mitigation as well. Prioritize defensive bonuses like max health, damage resistance, or armor.
Boots & Pants (Stamina and Sustain): Tanking relies heavily on stamina, since blocking and parrying consume it quickly.
Your Boots and Pants should focus on, stamina regeneration, health, and increased damage reduction.
Gloves & Helmet (Block & Parry): While the rest of your armor is built for survival, your Gloves and Helmet help ensure you hold block with Parry and Block stats. Your goal is not raw DPS, but controlled, steady damage that reinforces your position as the main target.
Early Game (Levels 5-13)
| Level | Armor Set | Focus/Location |
| 3 | Rags | Crafting Menu |
| 5 | Fur Armor | Blacksmith (Basic materials) |
| 8 | Rising Fighter | Blacksmith |
| 13 | Tank | Blacksmith |
You can craft rags in your default crafting menu starting at level 3. From here, your first real armor set is Fur Armor via the Blacksmith with basic materials. From here, you’ll want to craft the Rising Fighter Set at level 8, which offers some welcome bonuses to melee damage and general combat effectiveness. As soon as you can manage it, try to get two Gemini Rings from the Fell Banshee in the Moth’s Grove area (due north from the starting area). These are massive for early life leech and survival.
As a general rule, your chest armor offers limited offensive bonuses, so it’s best to equip a heavy chest piece for maximum HP and defense. The head and gloves, however, are your primary sources of offensive stats, particularly critical chance and damage. Meanwhile, boots and leg armor tend to focus on regeneration, stamina recovery, or utility effects. If you struggle with overall damage, swap to the Adventurer set or something more offensive vs. full tank at the start.
For the best results, consider taking a Blacksmith chest piece for raw survivability, and pair it with Hunter headgear and gloves to enhance your critical hit potential. Depending on your playstyle, you can mix in Alchemist boots or legs for extra mana regeneration (useful if you cast Heal Channel) or stick with Blacksmith pieces for stronger health regeneration. Regardless of your setup, prioritize critical bonuses on gloves and headgear, as those slots provide the biggest damage gains for a sword-and-shield Tank.
Mid Game (Levels 18-23)
| Level | Armor Set | Location |
| 18 | Guardian | Blacksmith |
| 23 | Warden | Blacksmith |
| 25 | Radiant Paladin | Kindlewaste Drops |
| 33 | Brazen Bull | Blacksmith |
Once you’ve reached mid-game, you have more options. The Guardian Set (Level 18) at the Blacksmith is ideal for a classic tank build, offering high defense and Constitution. The Rogue Set (Level 23) is an option to increase your Critical Strike Chance, which helps if you need more damage (hands and helmet). Your boots and pants can be swapped for more resources, sustain, or mitigation, depending on your needs.
As you progress through the game, you’ll begin to find named armor sets that are typically two levels higher than standard crafted gear. In the level 25 areas, you can find the Radiant Paladin’s Set, a powerful melee-focused option that emphasizes strength and constitution, making it ideal for a one-handed and shield Tank build. This set can easily carry you to max-level gear around level 33. However, it’s usually not worth spending hours farming every piece since you’ll upgrade past it relatively quickly. The best approach is to collect and store these items for later rather than worrying about small stat increases.
If your survivability feels strong, consider switching to a Ring of the Ancients. This ring provides a flat bonus of +1 to all attributes, which increases both damage and self-healing. It’s one of the few accessories in the game that boosts every major stat. The ring can be obtained as a drop from the boss called The Pike in the northern region or found in chests scattered across the Kindlewastes.
Best-in-Slot Tank Gear Setup
For the best gear setup for a Tank, use this armor:
- Head: Golden Bulwark Helmet (Blacksmith)
- Chest: Sunpiercer Chest (Blacksmith)
- Arms: Golden Bulwark Gloves (Blacksmith)
- Lower Body: Golden Bulwark Pants (Blacksmith)
- Feet: Quetzal Hunter Shoes (Hunter)
- Rings: 2x Commander’s Ring (drop from the Fell Wispwyvern in Pikemead’s Reach)
Best Tank Weapons

| Item | Equipment | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Primary (One-Handed) | Mace of Wrath | 20% Merciless Damage +10% Ice Damage 20% Retaliation 20% Merciless Damage 20% Merciless Damage |
| Secondary (Staff) | Staff of the Taurus | +20% Magic Ice Damage +20% Magic Ice Damage 4 Spiritual 4 Spiritual 5% Crit Strike Chance |
| Wand (Mana Regen) | Mythic Wand | +20% Magic Shock Damage 5% Mana Leech +20% Magic Shock Damage 5% Crit Strike Chance 5% Crit Strike Chance |
| Bow (Stun Arrows) | Avalanche Starter | +20% Piercing Damage +20% Piercing Damage 20% Crit Strike Damage 3 Stamina Regen +5% Health Leech |
| Shield | Sunpiercer Shield | 34 Block 321 Parry Power |
Mace of Wrath is the best one-handed weapon for the Tank build in Enshrouded because of it’s bonuses to Merciless damage and Blunt damage type. The ideal Gem increases blunt damage, and this damage type is helpful for increasing the enemies stun meter for a merciless attack one shot. You can even use Stun Arrows in combination at range to fill up the meter even more. Look for a weapon that has merciless, blunt, health leech, and or precise as your traits.
A tank will also want a variety of weapons on your hotbar. A wand will allow you to attack at medium range and still block. Moreover, the Soul Leech passive gives mana to all players in 15 meters if you kill an enemy with a melee weapon. A one-handed melee weapon should be used to close the gap, while the Wand can be used at further range. If you find yourself using Wand constantly, swap Soul Leech passive skill for Life Burst which will heal yourself and other players on Wand kills.
You will also want to carry a Staff with you. Staves channel spells and use mana which you won’t need. Use it to cast Eternal Heal Channel on yourself or allies to heal them. This will require you to drop your block, thus make sure you’re not in danger while channeling. However, it can be super effective mid or post fight to regenerate health without crafting endless amounts of potions.
How to get Weapons

Most weapons are found randomly by killing bosses or looting chest. You cannot craft end game Staff and Wand weapons for the Healer build. Thus, you should spend some time grinding in your current location and marking maps. If you take a look at the picture above, you can find gold chest and mark them which give the highest chance of legendary weapon drops. The best area is the northwest after you’ve upgraded your flame to rank 9.
Therefore, you want to login, setup flame altars near these chest, and make a rotation killing bosses, opening gold chest, and finding that perfect weapon with your ideal trait. You can always go with health leech which is effective on every build and playstyle. Note, in update 8, chest will take a long time to respawn and the log out and log in trick will not work. Thus, do a sweep of the chest locations then do other gameplay before checking some hours later.
Aggro and Threat Explained – Tanking in Enshrouded
Unlike other MMOs or RPGs, the aggro and threat mechanic is generated by dealing damage, healing, or proximity. In Enshrouded, you won’t have a specific ability to activate that threatens enemies. However, two skills amplify your threat, Nemesis and Arch Nemesis. You can generate double the threat, giving you an advantage amongst other players in your party to force an enemy to attack you.
Therefore, the core strategy becomes first contact, constant damage, and AOE. You want to be seen visually and attack with a gap closer Evasion Attack first if possible. This will keep your threat higher at the start allowing you to do lower damage but still maintain enemies attention.
Other skills that produce damage in a wide radius like Double Jump / Crash Down Attack are also useful. Moreover, you can parry and perfect parry timing blocks to generate more threat. Merciless Attack can be added into your rotation as the enemies stun bar fills and allows you to do good damage and maintain threat.
The skill Nemesis adds multipliers with a focus on AoE attacks and high-damage parry counters, a Tank build can generate a threat lead, forcing enemies to prioritize them over the rest of the group.
Blocking and Parrying Explained
In Enshrouded, the stats Block and Parry Power relate to your defensive capabilities when using a shield (or certain weapons). Block is the stat that governs how well you can stay in the “shield up / guard” stance and absorb incoming attacks. If your Block stat is higher than the enemy’s attack damage (while you are actively blocking), you can potentially absorb the hit entirely (no health damage, minimal or no stamina drain).
If Block is lower, you’ll still avoid health damage (as long as you have stamina left) but you’ll drain stamina. Once stamina is depleted, you’ll start taking health damage. Block only works while you are actively holding your shield up / blocking. Equipping a shield alone doesn’t automatically apply the benefit if you never raise it. Reddit+1
Parry Power is a stat that affects your timed defensive action, a “perfect block” or correctly timed parry. In Enshrouded, a parry is executed by blocking right as an enemy’s attack is about to land (often signalled with a visual cue). A high Parry Power helps you fill the enemy’s stagger (or stun) bar faster when you successfully parry. Once that bar fills, the enemy becomes vulnerable/dazed. So if you build around parrying (rather than just holding block or dodging), Parry Power becomes a key stat.
For this Tank build, it’s easiest to stack block since you can hold it and get a defensive bonuses without perfect timing.
Best Tank Consumables and Buffs
| Food | Type | Duration | Stats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open Sandwich | Rare (Grain) | 45 min | +80 Health +15% Melee Damage |
| Crab Cakes | Rare (Meat) | 50min | +280 Health +21% DMG against wildlife |
| Strawberry Milkshake | Rare (Fruit) | 50 min | +18 Health Regeneration +12 Stamina Regeneration |
| Rooibos Tea | Uncommon (Liquid) | 40 min | +30 Stamina +21 Stamina Regeneration |
The best consumables for the Tank build are Open Sandwich, Crab Cakes, Strawberry Milkshake, and Rooibos Tea. You gain your melee damage bonus from Open Sandwich, health from Crab Cakes, and resource sustain from Strawberry Milkshake and Rooibos Tea. Thanks to the Dessert Stomach passive skill (found in the Survivor skill tree), you can maintain up to four active food effects simultaneously. This is the key to maximizing your primary stats. All four of these items are crafted at the Farmer.
There are technically better food choices for melee damage and health. However, they require eggs which are a nightmare to farm (currently). Therefore, these are the best options to save you time while still doing great damage and survivability.
Focus on melee damage, health, and sustain, specifically stamina, for the best Warrior build food in Enshrouded, current update.
Utility and Healing Items
Outside of your four food buffs, you’ll rely on consumables crafted at the Alchemist or found in the world. These include emergency healing, sustain, and damage-boosting options:
- Superior Health Potion: Restores +1000 Health instantly and serves as your emergency panic heal.
- Improved Bandage: Restores around 8% of your total health per second for a short duration, great between fights or after blocking multiple hits.
- Superior Mana Potion: Restores +250 Mana. Optional but useful if you use wand or skill-based abilities for ranged options.
Damage and Specialty Buffs
These items provide short-term bonuses for boss fights or difficult encounters:
- Greater Ectoplasm Soup: Reduces health by 100 but grants +12% damage and +9% life leech against Hollow enemies, making it highly effective in the Hollows region.
- Elixir: Grants +30% damage for a limited time and is ideal for bosses or late-game dungeons.
- Flask of Fell: Adds +20 Stamina for 20 minutes, giving extra room for blocking and dodging.
Best Tank Gems

The best gem for the Tank build in Enshrouded is the Gem of Retaliation because it gives additional damage after blocking. Moreover, it increases pushback, and is great for parrying or just blocking and returning damage. You can find Gem of Retaliation in Revelwood by killing specifically Vukah Besrserkers. There is also a mini boss at Frawnsong Frontier which is the easiest way to get the gem.
Additionally, you can go with either Bloodlust or Battle Mania gems.
- Gem of Battle Mania: Increases overall regeneration of Health, Stamina, and Mana while an active buff is maintained, pairing perfectly with Elixir usage and the aggressive yet controlled rhythm of a shield-based Tank.
- Gem of Bloodlust: Converts combat into healing by restoring health with each kill or rapid damage sequence, turning group fights into sources of sustain.
Rotation and Combat Tips for Tank
The most important part of combat as a Tank is getting aggro or an enemy’s attention. To do this, attack first with Evasion Attack from a one-hand weapon to close the gap. Once you attack, try to time blocks to build up the stun bar above the enemies head. If you cannot do this, simply hold block entirely to absorb damage. Each enemy has a sequences of attack, which you can attack while not taking pressure.
For survivability, use a combination of blocking, dodging (blinking), and healing for survival. Mana regenerates naturally, so if you can swap to a Staff and heal, do so. Use potions, bandages, and even passive healing regeneration to get extra healing on top of it.
Your best bet for damage is double jump attack because its area based and does a small stagger. You can also use a Wand at medium range, sword in melee, or even a staff with a Fireball to open with a heavy damage area opener. Whatever you do, maintain pressure on the primary target by constantly attacking so it attacks you.
Best Glider
The best Glider for this build in Enshrouded is the Ghost Glider. The Ghost Glider is a level 30 legendary glider with increased range and speed compared to others in the game. Unlike previous Gliders which can be crafted, you must find this one in a Gold Chest at the top of the South-East Sun Temple.
Travel south from the Kindlewaste Ancient Spire and past the Scatterbone Scavenger area. The Ghost Glider is through the temple which will require some fighting and puzzles.
