Latest Update: February 2, 2026 – Categories: Best ESO Sets
Overland Sets in The Elder Scrolls Online are some of the easiest options in the game to quickly build a powerful character! This is because Overland Sets are by far the easiest Sets to complete in-game! These sets can be quickly farmed in just a few hours or even bought or traded for.
With that in mind, below you will find the Absolute BEST Overland sets currently in ESO that even a beginner can start collecting today!

ESO Best Overland Sets Ranked!
Below are the best Overland Sets for The Elder Scrolls Online, ranked from Best to Worst.
- Back-Alley Gourmand
- Briarheart
- Mother’s Sorrow
- Spriggan’s Thorns
- Hexos Ward
- Three Queen’s Wellspring
- Armor Of The Trainee
- Macabre Vintage
- Plague Doctor
- Winter’s Respite
- Venomous Smite
- War Maiden
12. War Maiden

War Maiden
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(3 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Magicka
(4 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(5 items) Adds 600 Weapon and Spell Damage to your Magic Damage abilities.
War Maiden is a niche set in The Elder Scrolls Online, with it’s 5-piece bonus only improving a small amount of abilities, but those that do fit the effect get a huge buff! The key here is that you must use skills that deal “Magic Damage,” and it must say this specifically on the tooltip. Some classes such as the Templar, Nightblade and Arcanist have a majority of skills that deal “Magic Damage” and so this set is great for those builds.
This set has excellent 2-4 piece bonuses as well, which is always a plus. But once you combine this with those magic damage skills like Puncturing Sweep or Swallow Soul, your damage will sky rocket! I used this set in a recent update to my One Bar Magicka Templar Build.
11. Venomous Smite

Venomous Smite
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(3 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(4 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(5 items) Dealing Critical Damage inflicts Hunter’s Venom on your enemy for 10 seconds, dealing 2241 Poison Damage to your target and enemies within 6 meters of them every 1 second. This effect can occur once every 15 seconds.
The Venomous Smite set is a great option for builds that want to follow a poison focused theme and is especially powerful on classes such as the Dragonknight and Nightblade. The Hunter’s Venom proc is especially powerful here as it deals damage to all enemies in the area (AOE). The venom lasts for 10 seconds with a 15 second cooldown, meaning the venom will have about 5 seconds of downtime overall, which is good.
10. Winter’s Respite

Winter’s Respite
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 129 Magicka Recovery
(3 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Magicka
(4 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Magicka
(5 items) Casting abilities that leave an effect on the ground will create a circle of healing frost for 10 seconds. You and your group members restore 2358 Health every 1 second while inside the circle. This effect can occur once every 10 seconds.
Winter’s Respite is a perfect starter set for Healer Builds or Solo builds looking for a bit of extra healing. This set places a healing effect on the ground whenever you cast a ground-based ability, and all classes have access to some form of ground-based skills. You can also proc this with the very basic Elemental Blockade skill from the Destruction Staff.
This set works great on builds such as the Beginner Magicka Templar or Beginner Magicka Warden, allowing you to focus on damage while the set automatically heals you and your group.
9. Plague Doctor

Plague Doctor
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 1206 Maximum Health
(3 items) Adds 1206 Maximum Health
(4 items) Adds 1206 Maximum Health
(5 items) Adds 2804 Maximum Health
The Plague Doctor set is the perfect starter tank set in ESO, giving you TONS of maximum Health to help ensure your survivability. If you are looking to get started with group content, a tank build using Plague Doctor will let you easily survive most dungeon boss attacks.
Plague Doctor can even be used successfully on solo builds such as a Solo Magicka Sorcerer as most damage shields scale up based on Maximum Health, thus giving you the largest damage shield skill possible when using skills like Hardened Ward.
8. Macabre Vintage

Macabre Vintage
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(3 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(4 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(5 items) Adds 150 Weapon and Spell Damage, When you kill a monster they burst with blood magic, dealing 50% of their Max Health to enemies within 6 meters as Bleed Damage, up to 24096 Bleed Damage. This damage cannot critically strike. This effect can occur once every 0.5 seconds.
The Macabre Vintage set is the ultimate Overland Set for grinding experience as it destroys enemies in a powerful AOE explosion. This can set up a chain reaction effect where once you kill one enemy, the rest of the pack explodes for easy experience.
7. Armor Of The Trainee

Armor Of The Trainee
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(1 item) Adds 1454 Maximum Health
(2 items) Adds 1454 Maximum Magicka
(3 items) Adds 1454 Maximum Stamina
The Armor Of The Trainee set is often the first armor set you complete in ESO because it drops plentifully from the game’s starter zones. The stats it provides are actually excellent for Beginner Builds too because you always want more Stamina and Magicka to cast abilities and more Health to help with survival.
This set is also great to fill in gaps in your equipment because you only need three pieces to obtain the full benefits or you can even use one or two pieces to get a smaller benefit.
6. Three Queen’s Wellspring

Three Queens Wellspring
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Magicka
(3 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Magicka
(4 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Magicka
(5 items) Gain 1 Magicka Recovery for every 100 Max Magicka you have.
The Three Queens Wellspring set is the ultimate when it comes to Magicka builds in The Elder Scrolls Online. Not only does this set provide a ton of Max Magicka, but it also provides 1 Magicka Recovery for every 100 Max Magicka you have. On a typical build with 30,000 Magicka this translates to 300 extra Magicka Recovery before even factoring in recovery buffs.
This set is amazing for PvP Builds which often needs more recovery than PvE Group or Solo Builds for example. For Magicka Builds you will never need to worry about your sustain using this set and can focus purely on damage with your other sets.
5. Hexos Ward

LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(3 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(4 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(5 items) Dealing direct Critical Damage grants you a damage shield that absorbs up to 12305 damage for 6 seconds. This effect can occur once every 7 seconds.
Hexos Ward is the perfect set for Solo Builds in ESO as it provides the MOST powerful damage shield in the game and is easy to farm or purchase! This set creates its damage shield when you deal Direct Critical Damage, making it an ideal set for builds like a Stamina Warden or Stamina Nightblade. I use this build on my One Bar Stamina Nightblade Build for example in combination with the Oakensoul Ring to become essentially unkillable. Anyone interested in soloing more difficult content should invest in this set!
4. Spriggan’s Thorns

Spriggan’s Thorns
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Stamina
(3 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Stamina
(4 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(5 items) Adds 3460 Offensive Penetration
Spriggan’s Thorns is an extremely useful early game set in The Elder Scrolls Online, increasing your Offensive Penetration which lets all of your damage abilities deal more true damage by ignoring enemy resistances. This set is a powerful option for Beginner Builds which usually lack the offensive penetration stat, which helps to increase your overall DPS. For that reason I recommend this overland set for Beginner Builds, Leveling Builds, Solo Builds and even PvP Builds as it can help you elimate players even faster.
Usually builds that are wanting to increase their offensive penetration need to invest in something like the Lover Mundus Stone (Penetration Mundus), but with Spriggan’s Thorns you have room to invest in other options such as the Thief Mundus for increased Critical Chance. Another similar option to Spriggan’s Thorns is the Spinner’ Garments set which is basically the Magicka version of Spriggan’s.
3. Mother’s Sorrow

Mother’s Sorrow
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Magicka
(3 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(4 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(5 items) Adds 1528 Critical Chance
Mother’s Sorrow is an essential set for any serious ESO player, providing plenty of Critical Chance which is an essential stat for dealing damage. This is one of the few Overland Sets that even experienced players run at end-game, allowing you to reach values of 60% Critical Chance or higher which is essential to increasing your overall DPS. This set will be great for Solo Builds and Group Builds – basically anyone looking to easily increase their damage.
Make sure to stack this set with even more Critical Chance bonuses, including the Thief Mundus Stone, armor with the Divines Trait and skills like Inner Light which give you the unique Major Prophecy and Major Savagery buffs.
2. Briarheart

Briarheart
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(3 items) Adds 1096 Maximum Stamina
(4 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(5 items) When you deal Critical Damage, you increase your Weapon and Spell Damage by 450 for 10 seconds. While this effect is active your Critical Strikes heal you for 100 Health. This effect can occur once every 15 seconds and the heal scales off the higher of your Maximum Magicka or Stamina.
The Briarheart set is one of the few options on this list of Overland Sets which has a long-last proc. In this case the set generates 450 Weapon Damange and Spell Damage for your character as well as causing your Critical Strikes to heal you, all for a 10 second duration.
This means that you can “backbar” the Briarheart set. You do this by using a secondary weapon from the Briarheart set such as a Bow (which counts for 2 set bonuses because it is a two-handed weapon), along with 3 additional set pieces. This causes the set bonus to “proc” when you cast your backbar skills, allowing you to run even more sets such as Monster Helms or Mythics!
Ultimately, sets like Briarheart allow for more flexible and powerful options for your build which you should explore when you are ready.
1. Back-Alley Gourmand

Back-Alley Gourmand
LVL 50 – CP 160
SET BONUS
(2 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(3 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(4 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(5 items) While you have a food buff active, your Critical Damage and Critical Healing is increased by 13%.
The Back-Alley Gourmand set offers a powerful a unique bonus for its 5-piece: 13% more Critical Damage and Critical Healing! Critical Damage is one of the most wanted stats in The Elder Scrolls Online, making this set an amazing option for how easy it is to obtain.
To put this stat in perspective, wearing 1 piece of Medium armor grants you a mere two percent bonus Critical Damage and Healing, so using this set is equivalent to running at least 6 extra pieces of medium armor on your build!
This set scales very well for Beginner Builds and Solo Builds but will eventually get replaced by more advanced proc sets for group content. Still, this set does an amazing job of boosting your damage and healing output, making it great for many builds!
