Class Sets are some of the most powerful and unique items you can equip in ESO. Unlike every other armor set in the game, Class Sets are locked to a specific class, and each one is built to amplify a particular class skill line in ways that no other set in the game can replicate. That exclusivity is exactly what makes them so interesting. Whether you are playing a Nightblade, Sorcerer, Necromancer, or any of the other seven classes, there is a Class Set designed to push your chosen skill line further than it would go on its own.
ESO Class Sets Overview
Class Sets are 5-piece armor sets exclusive to a specific ESO class. They were introduced in Update 40 alongside the Endless Archive (now called the Infinite Archive), making them a base game feature that any player can access regardless of which DLCs they own.
What separates Class Sets from every other set in ESO is the combination of two things. First, they cannot be equipped by any class other than the one they are designed for. A Dragonknight cannot wear Soulcleaver, and a Nightblade cannot wear Monolith of Storms. Second, each set’s 5-piece bonus is built specifically around one of that class’s three skill lines, meaning the set only reaches its full potential when paired with the right skills on your bar.
New Changes in ESO Update 50
In addition to the major update of bringing in new Class Mastery passives to Update 50, the devs have also reworked many Class Set bonuses to make these more effective and worth using.
- Aerie’s Cry: This set now increases your damage done by 10%, rather than only damage done with Animal Companion skills by 10%.
- Aetheric Lancer: Updated the damage proc from this set to be considered a class ability. This should help the set scale with a few more interactions, namely a few Templar specific ones. The Weapon and Spell Damage from this set now persists for 10 seconds, up from 6, to help improve its uptime in actual combat.
- Beacon of Oblivion: Adjusted the damage and healing bonuses while no permanent pets are active and Battle Spirit is active to 7%, up from 5%.
- Monolith of Storms: Increased the damage of this set by ~37.5%. This set now grants 200 Weapon and Spell Damage for every Monolith active.
- Pyrebrand: Updated this set to interact with Wildfire Embers (a new Class Mastery for DK), rather than being based off generic damage over time effects. Decreased the damage of the damage over time proc by ~31.4%. Decreased the damage of the area effect proc by ~26.1%. Heavy Attacking now removes up to 3 stacks of Wildfire Embers or your Pyrebrand, rather than up to 3 damage over time effects. Adjusted the bonus damage effect to 25% per Wildfire Embers stack (up to 300% at max), rather than 20% per damage over time effect, up to 60%.
- Soulcleaver: Adjusted this set’s 3 piece bonus to Critical Chance, rather than Max Magicka. This set’s 5 piece bonus now increases the damage and healing and reduces the cost of Siphoning abilities by 15%, down from 21%. Draining Ultimate from this set now increases your damage done by up to 12% based on how high your current Health is, for 12 seconds.
- Spattering Disjunction: This set now also increases damage done with status effects by 40% while worn and generates a Crux when the set activates.
- Wrathsun: This set now stacks up to 30 times, down from 40, making it easier to reach the maximum potency sooner. Increased the Magicka Recovery per stack to 21, up from 12, helping offset the penalty of this set over the course of a fight while retaining the highs and lows of the sustain draw. Wrathsun at maximum stacks now increases the damage done of Templar skill line abilities by 25% (10% against players), rather than the damage scaling of Dawn’s Wrath abilities by 25%.

How to Get Class Sets in ESO
All Class Sets drop from the Infinite Archive, an endless dungeon located in Apocrypha that scales in difficulty the deeper you push. The Archive is a base game feature, so no DLC is required to access it.
There are two ways to obtain Class Sets inside the Archive:
Drops from Bosses and Special Enemies: Class Set pieces drop from chests after defeating bosses and special enemies throughout the Archive. The game’s curation system prioritizes your own class’s set first, meaning the pieces you receive will match your character’s class until you have received the full set. After that, pieces from other classes can appear.
Archival Fortune Vendor: Inside the starting area of the Infinite Archive you will find special merchants. One of them accepts Archival Fortune, the Archive’s dedicated currency, and sells Class Set pieces directly. This is a reliable fallback if RNG is not cooperating.
The fastest farming method, especially early on, is to complete Arc 1 and then reset the instance using the Thread Weaver at the Index. Arc 1 is significantly easier than later arcs, and since your class set drops are curated, you will make consistent progress on a full set without having to push into the more punishing later cycles. If you have a farming partner willing to share drops, running to Arc 3 doubles your potential item drops per run and can dramatically cut the total time investment.

Best ESO Class Sets
Not all Class Sets are built equally. Some are clear damage wins that fit naturally onto most builds, while others require very specific playstyles to get real value from. Here are our picks for the best Class Set for each class, based on overall damage output, build flexibility, and practical performance across solo and group content.
Best Nightblade Class Set: Soulcleaver
Soulcleaver is the best choice for Nightblade DPS or Solo Builds in both PvE and PvP because of how much raw value it packs into a single 5-piece bonus. The 15% damage and healing increase to Siphoning abilities, combined with a 15% cost reduction, is great on its own. What elevates Soulcleaver further is the stacking damage bonus: every cast of a Siphoning ability drains 1 Ultimate but also grants up to 12% increased damage done for 20 seconds based on your current Health. This trades a resource Nightblades naturally generate quickly anyway (Ultimate) for even more raw damage.
Best Dragonknight Class Set: Pyrebrand
Pyrebrand is the offense-focused choice for Dragonknights and the clear pick over Basalt-Blooded Warrior for players prioritizing damage output. With Pyrebrand equipped your Light Attacks apply a stacking Flame damage-over-time effect, and Heavy Attacks then consume those stacks for a burst of AOE Flame Damage around the target, dealing up to 200% increased damage to enemies below 33% Health. That execute interaction alone makes Pyrebrand extremely valuable in both solo content and boss fights where finishing off priority targets quickly matters. The fact that this class set now works with your Class Mastery passives makes it even stronger in Update 50 and beyond.
Best Sorcerer Class Set: Monolith of Storms
Monolith of Storms is a powerhouse for Sorcerers because it can now deal massive shock damage across a large area as long as you are consistently doing damage with Storm Calling abilities. Each Monolith placed near an enemy deals 1678 Shock Damage every 2 seconds to enemies caught between linked Monoliths, and you can have up to 3 active at once. The more targets and Monoliths are in range, the more links form, making this set dramatically stronger in multi-target encounters. On top of that, each active Monolith grants 100 Weapon and Spell Damage, meaning three Monoliths up at once is an extra 300 Weapon and Spell Damage with no additional work required.
Best Templar Class Set: Aetheric Lancer
Wrathsun’s power comes with a significant downside: hitting the maximum 30 stacks of Sunlight and then letting them expire costs you 50% of your current Magicka, creating a punishing drain that can disrupt your sustain in extended fights. Aetheric Lancer avoids that kind of risk entirely while still delivering excellent damage numbers. Dealing damage with Burning Light twice within 30 seconds, something that happens passively in most Templar rotations, creates an area that enables you to launch a 3800 Magic Damage spear with every Aedric Spear ability while also stacking 300 Weapon and Spell Damage for 10 seconds. That results in a ton of burst damage potential making this set a great choice.
Best Warden Class Set: Aerie’s Cry
Aerie’s Cry is the best class set pick for damage-oriented Wardens. Applying Eagle’s Mark via Light Attacks is zero extra effort, the eagle hits every 3 seconds for 1900 Physical Damage, and the 10% bonus damage done against marked targets stacks easily on top of your existing damage bonuses. Since Light Attacks are already a core part of any Warden’s rotation, Aerie’s Cry delivers a strong passive damage option.
Best Necromancer Class Set: Corpseburster
Corpseburster is the clear offensive choice for Necromancers and one of the most powerful Class Sets in the game. Consuming a corpse causes it to explode, dealing 2805 Disease Damage to everything within 5 meters, applying the Diseased status effect, and reducing enemy Physical and Spell Resistance by 2974 via Minor Breach. This effect can proc every 0.5 seconds, which is extremely fast for a set bonus, and it deals 10% more damage for each Grave Lord ability slotted. With four Grave Lord skills on your bars, that is a 40% damage increase to every explosion!
Best Arcanist Class Set: Spattering Disjunction
Spattering Disjunction is the better offensive choice for Arcanists compared to Reawakened Hierophant, which leans into group support and healing. Every 7 seconds, dealing damage with an Arcanist ability automatically applies two random status effects to your target, a proc that generates Crux and costs nothing beyond your normal rotation. The cooldown is then reduced by 0.5 seconds for each tick of a Herald of the Tome ability, meaning active Arcanists can fire it much more frequently than the base cooldown suggests. The real strength is the 40% bonus damage done with status effects, which is a huge multiplier on effects like Burning, Chilled, and Concussed that Arcanists can apply and maintain consistently.
ESO Class Sets FAQ
1. Can any class equip any Class Set?
No. Each Class Set is restricted to one specific class and cannot be equipped by any other.
2. Do I need a DLC to access Class Sets?
No, the Infinite Archive where all Class Sets drop is a base game feature available to all ESO players.
3. Can Class Sets be traded between players?
Class Set pieces are Bind on Pickup but are tradeable with the partner you were grouped with when the item dropped, so farming with a friend can help both players gear up faster.
4. Is it faster to farm Class Sets solo or with a partner?
Farming with a partner pushing to Arc 3 doubles your potential drops per run and is significantly faster overall than solo farming.
5. Are Class Sets good for beginners?
Yes. Since your class’s set drops are curated in the Archive, new players will collect their set naturally and efficiently without needing to target specific enemies or zones.
6. Should I use the Archival Fortune vendor or rely on drops?
Use drops first since they are curated toward your class. The vendor is best used to fill in specific missing pieces like a particular trait or armor weight.
7. Do Class Sets work in both PvE and PvP?
Yes, though some effects like Aetheric Lancer’s bonus damage are reduced in PvP scenarios, and sets like Soulcleaver that trade Ultimate generation require careful resource management in Cyrodiil or Battlegrounds.
