Housing in The Elder Scrolls Online can be quite expensive but did you know there are FREE options too? In this guide, we’ll explore 9 convenient options for ESO housing that come free of charge!
Introduction to Housing
In the Elder Scrolls Online houses can be expensive, and for many, it is typically an endgame endeavor with which to sink all your hard-earned coins or crowns. However, each character is given a free apartment at the beginning of the game through the “A Room to Spare” quest, providing additional storage spaces and a location to place the all-important Armory Station. Although not luxurious, these are solid starting points to your Housing adventure. These free apartments provided to a player differ based on the character’s alliance, which is ultimately based on their player race selection.
Benefits of having a Free apartment in ESO
Owning one or all 9 of the below Free housing options will provide you with some serious conveniences while playing ESO, especially if you’re just starting out. Having a home allows you to fast travel to it for free from anywhere in the world, even a dungeon, without any cooldown. As most of these free options are located at various inns in major cities across Tamriel this essentially gets you a quick, reliable, and free trip back to town at any time without having to fight, run, or slug your way to the nearest Wayshrine.
Owning a property will also allow you to plop down any furnishings you collect that you want to save, without having to give up valuable bank space. And you can also increase your total storage space with storage chests and storage coffers.
Lastly, there are some of these free homes that are closer to city services than others, which means it could be safer or more efficient to travel to your home than to a Wayshrine in many cases.
How Many Can I Unlock?
Every character you create in ESO can unlock one Inn room for free with the above-mentioned quest. However once unlocked by a single character, the homes are unlocked account-wide, meaning your other characters will be able to access those homes once unlocked. The “Room To Spare” quest only takes a few seconds to complete, making it well worth the time to simply create a new character to unlock the next free house.
What happens to my Home if I Delete a Character?
As mentioned, the homes are unlocked account-wide, which means that even if you delete a character after having unlocked a home with them, you still keep access to that home and its furnishings.
Best Free Houses For ESO
All the options in this guide can be unlocked for Free, though keep in mind some are parts of DLC areas.
1. Mara’s Kiss Public House
The Mara’s Kiss Public House is located in the city of Vulkel Guard in Auridon.
2. The Rosy Lion
The Rosy Lion is located in the city of Daggerfall in the zone of Glenumbra.
3. The Ebony Flask Inn
The Ebony Flask is located in the city of Ebonheart in the zone of Stonefalls. The Inn can be found on the Eastern side of town and offers a cozy, simple room perfect for basic storage and housing needs.
4. Saint Delyn Penthouse
The Saint Delyn Penthouse is yet another free housing option in ESO, this time located in Vivec City, in the zone of Vvardenfell. Players will be able to find Morrowind player home within the Abbey of St. Delyn.
5. The Golden Griffin
The Golden Griffin Inn can be found in the town of Alinor located in the zone of Summerset.
6. Sugar Bowl Suite
The Sugar Bowl Suite is yet another free room option in The Elder Scrolls Online, this time located in the zone of Northern Elsweyr in the city of Rimmen.
The Sugar Bowl Suite is conveniently located near the Rimmen Bazaar, which offers every type of crafting station, merchants, bank, and a wayshrine. Missing only a transmutation station and armory station, which could be placed in the home itself, this apartment would thus have literally everything a character would need all at their fingertips and only a quick port away from anywhere in the world.
7. Snow Melt Suite
Snowmelt Suite is located in Solitude, in the zone of Western Skyrim.
8. Kaladas Inn
The Kaladas Inn is located in Leyawiin, in the zone of Blackwood.
9. The Hall Of The Lunar Champion
This expandable free home option is located in the town of Rimmen located in Northern Elsweyr.
The Hall of the Lunar Champion is a proper house with four different unlockable locations and a furnishing limit of 350-700, making it the largest free housing available. While it requires completing the “Two Queens” quest to initially unlock, players can expand all three sections of the house by completing additional quests, such as “The Heir of Anequina” and “Return of the Dragonguard,” and completing the Lair of Marselok and Moongrave Fane dungeons on Normal.
It’s a very grandiose and unique building that has a hard-earned reputation and a stamp of pride for players who get a great-sized home that would normally run them hundreds of thousands of gold or real-world money via the crown store to acquire. It is likewise not too far ( a quick mount blast away) from that aforementioned market of awesomeness that is the Rimmen Bazaar.
