Guilds in ESO are an easily overlooked yet crucial part of the game, providing players access to unique and powerful skills and passives. Joining an NPC Guild can also enhance your roleplaying experience in the game, allowing you to complete unique quest lines and thematic daily content. In this article, we will explore the best guilds to join in ESO and what benefits each one has to offer, while being transparent about any shortcomings.

What are the best Guilds to join in ESO?
The Best Guilds to join in ESO are as follows.
1. Fighters Guild
The Fighters Guild is an excellent choice for players looking to increase their damage output and overall utility. The guild’s passives are among the best in the game, providing bonuses to both Weapon Damage and Spell Damage, as well as increased damage against Undead enemies and Daedra. The guild’s ultimate skill, Dawnbreaker, deals an amazing amount of upfront burst damage which can be further amplified through its morph options. Dawnbreaker of Smiting is a great choice for crowd-control and especially PVP content as it includes a stun, and Flawless Dawnbreaker is great for PVE damage dealers as this morph increases your total Weapon and Spell Damage by a whopping 300!
Other skills in the Fighters Guild are equally useful such as Barbed Trap, a powerful Damage Over Time (DOT) skill, Silver Leash, an extremely useful ranged pull ability and Camouflaged Hunter, which increases Critical Chance while also exposing hidden enemies.
The primary downside of joining the Fighters Guild in ESO is the leveling process. Leveling this guild can take a long time, so it’s essential to begin the process as soon as possible. To get started, find the Fighters Guild located in the starting city of your Alliance (Vulkhel Guard for Aldmeri Dominion, Glenumbra for Daggerfall Covenant, or Davon’s Watch for Ebonheart Pact) and complete the introduction quest to join its ranks. Once you have joined, defeating Undead, Daedra, and closing Dolmens will now give you experience points towards increasing your Fighters Guild rank. The Fighters Guild also provides daily quests with decent rewards and a sizable rank boost once a day.

2. Mages Guild
The Mages Guild is a fantastic option for players looking to enhance their magical abilities. The guild’s passives increase your overall Maximum Magicka as well as Magicka Recovery. And unique skills such as Inner Light and Degeneration provide significant boosts to damage and utility. Inner Light, in particular, is a must-have skill for magicka-based DPS builds, as it increases your Critical Chance rating and provides an additional Magicka bonus. Also, the Mages Guild ultimate, Shooting Star, deals massive area-of-effect damage and generates ultimate at an accelerated rate, making it a very powerful AOE in many Experience Grinding focused and Solo PVE Builds.
Much like the Fighters Guild, the main downside of the Mages Guild is the leveling process. Leveling up your Mages Guild skill line requires finding and reading numerous lore books scattered throughout the game world. This is even more daunting on consoles as you cannot download and implement the add-ons available to PC users to help locate the lore books. Similar to the Fighters Guild, you’ll want to start this guild arguably as soon as you load into the game for the first time as any lore book read before joining the guild will not retroactively count towards your Mages Guild rank and once a Lore book has been read once it will not provide the reward again.
To begin, find a Mages Guild in the starting city of your Alliance (Vulkhel Guard for Aldmeri Dominion, Glenumbra for Daggerfall Covenant, or Davon’s Watch for Ebonheart Pact), and complete the starting quest to join. The Mages Guild also provides daily quests with decent rewards for completion after completing their quest line.

3. The Undaunted
The Undaunted Guild offers valuable skills and passives that focus on group play, making it a great addition to most builds in ESO. For example, the guild’s Undaunted Command passive restores bonus resources when players active a Synergy in combat. Helping to support this more group-oriented playstyle is the skill Mystic Orb which creates its own Synergy that other players can use.
The skill Inner Rage is very useful for tanks, as it allows them to taunt enemies at range and the Undaunted Mettle passive is great for all builds and playstyles as it increases your Maximum Health, Magicka and Stamina based on how many different types of armor weight you have equipped (light, medium or heavy).
Joining this guild is a fantastic idea for anyone who wants to focus on group PVE content, but it’s important to note that leveling it can be a bit of a grind as you’ll need to complete group dungeons in order to level it up quickly, though the Undaunted Guild also offers daily quests which can be completed while Solo if you wish.

4. The Psijic Order
Ancient and mysterious scholars, it is said the Psijic Order were the first in Tamriel to study the secrets of Mysticism. This study has allowed the Order to develop knowledge and power not found anywhere else in Tamriel, including the manipulation of time itself! To join the Psijic Order, players must own the Summerset Chapter.
The Psijic Order is an excellent choice for players looking to enhance their mobility and build flexibility in both PVE and PVP content in ESO. The guild’s skill line includes many unique abilities including Channeled Acceleration, which provides a boost to your movement speed and Critical Damage. The ultimate, Temporal Guard, can also be incredibly useful, as it allows you to teleport back to a previous location and regain all resources while also providing passive Minor Protection.
The primary downside of joining the Psijic Order is that leveling this guild, especially on multiple characters, can be extremely boring and time-consuming, as it requires completing a plethora of convoluted fetch/travel quests all across Tamriel. If your niche build leans on one of the above mentioned abilities then its worth the effort however.

5. Dark Brotherhood
The Dark Brotherhood is a guild focused on stealth and assassination. The guild’s signature ability, Blade of Woe, allows you to instantly kill NPCs, making it an interesting choice for stealthy players looking to complete certain quests quickly. However, the guild doesn’t offer many useful skills or passives beyond this ability, making it much more of a niche choice and ultimately one I feel most make do to it being a fan favorite from the single player games.
The storyline, thematic characters/outfits, and lore will scratch that itch for most fans of the Elder Scrolls series but being transparent some are left disappointed with the lack of having a well-rounded guild that is integrated into the gameplay of ESO such as the Mages or Fighters guild is. The daily quests sadly are rather repetitive and simplistic (especially if using the Blade of Woe) go here and kill this unremarkable NPC with lacking rewards for the time spent.
In order to join the Dark Brotherhood, players must purchase the Dark Brotherhood DLC or have an active subscription to ESO Plus.

6. Thieves Guild
The Thieves Guild is another guild focused on stealth but with a focus on thievery. Joining this guild allows you to sell stolen goods for profit and earn some unique and valuable rewards especially at low levels. However, beyond this mechanic, the guild doesn’t offer any skills or passives that are useful in other circumstances such as during combat.
Ultimately a Roleplay and thematic choice for most players, the questline and daily quests will provide some entertainment value and decent gold rewards, but not much else. This guild is recommend for players looking to make as much money as possible from the start of the game and who are really committed to the theme and lore of the Thieves Guild or anyone who really wants to be able to open those shiny thieves caches they keep seeing in the world.
