Regardless of your thoughts surrounding the Crown Store, it is a big part of the Elder Scrolls Online gaming experience. Even if you don’t plan on purchasing Crowns directly, you may still earn them as a result of an ongoing ESO Plus Subscription, through special promotions, or as a gift. But what should you spend your Crowns on in ESO?
The following are some of the most useful, best bang-for-your-buck items worth purchasing in the Crown Store that will either enhance or improve your gameplay experiences in ESO.

The best ways to spend crowns in ESO
The best things to spend your Crowns on in ESO are:
1. NPC Assistants
The NPC Assistants in The Elder Scrolls Online offer the best value of any Crown Store Item currently sold. While quite expensive at 5000 Crowns each, any of these assistants will also make a huge difference during your time in ESO, saving you plenty of time in the long run. Some of the Assistants you can purchase include:
- Banker Assistant – store and remove items from your bank while out in the world.
- Merchant Assistant – sell items from your inventory for gold. Note: the merchant assistant does NOT repair items as a normal NPC merchant does.
- Armory Assistant – access your Armory builds while out in the world.
- Deconstruction Assistant – deconstruct gear pieces, giving you the resulting materials
Occasionally the NPC assistants do go on sale as well, so make sure to watch for any reduction in price. Additionally, assistants can not be summoned in PVP areas such as Cyrodiil or Battlegrounds.

2. New Classes
The Warden and Necromancer classes are definitely worth the purchase if you don’t already have them. This is because to put it simply, being able to play another class allows you to experience the game in a whole new light. Classes all have their own unique theme, playstyles, animations, and skills, which can open up new playstyles and help make the game more enjoyable. If you are unsure which class is best for you, then check out our Warden Class Builds and Necromancer Class Builds to review some of the potential ways to play these powerful classes.

3. DLC’s
If you do not have ESO Plus, purchasing DLCs outright ensures that you will always have access to them no matter what. Also, if you think that at some point you may have to take a break from ESO Plus payments, then investing in DLCs may still prove useful as you’ll still have access to all the content despite losing your ESO Plus status. DLCs tend to go on sale quite often throughout the year so keep your eye on the crown store for those deals that allow you to pick up a pack of DLCs for very cheap. 4. Inventory Pets
The inventory pets offered in the Crown Store are another valuable investment if you have any Crowns to spare. Priced at 1200 crowns each, they provide five additional inventory slots for all characters on your account, per pet. This feature alone makes them worth the purchase, as it saves players from the tedious task of managing multiple characters’ inventory. Currently, there are three inventory pets available for purchase in the crown store. They are:

5. Character Slots
With a new class on the way with the Necrom chapter, it’s a good idea to consider purchasing some additional character slots if you haven’t already. Each additional slot costs 1,500 Crowns with a soon-to-be maximum total of 20 character slots per server. Having more characters is always a good idea if you want even more storage space, are a Veteran player with a completionist mindset, want to maximize crafting writs, or simply want to make various themed characters to roleplay with. What NOT to buy in the Crown Store
There are many more items in the Crown Store that you should definitely NOT buy. This includes mostly consumable items (potions, poisons, foods) which can be easily crafted and bought from Guild Traders. It’s also important to know that many of the “convenience” items such as respecification scrolls are not needed either as there are multiple ways to respect your character in-game with gold.
