ESO Class Mastery Passives Overview
Update 50 is bringing one of the most exciting additions to Elder Scrolls Online in years: Class Mastery Passives. These are exclusive passive bonuses available only to pure class builds — characters who use all three of their native class skill lines without subclassing. Every class gets five passives to choose from, and you can slot two at a time.
The system arrives as part of ESO Update 50 in June 2026, and it represents ZOS’s most direct answer yet to a problem the community has raised since subclassing launched: pure class builds have consistently felt weaker than their subclassed counterparts, especially in high-end content like veteran trials and competitive PvP.
Senior Combat Designer Alec Verish described the system as a stop-gap measure between the ongoing class reworks, with passives expected to be adjusted as each class gets its full refresh. The Dragonknight rework is already complete; Warden is next in line.
How Class Mastery Works
In order to use the new Class Mastery passives, your character must have hit Level 50 and also leveled their three class skill lines to level 50. Once your skill lines are maxed out, a new skill line option called Class Mastery will appear.
The Class Mastery skill line contains 5 passives. Players have 2 skill points here to spend, allowing you to unlock 2 of the 5 passives.
Class Mastery passives can be reset at any time, allowing you to experiment or change your build on the fly.
Keep in mind that Class Mastery passives are fluid and may change from patch to patch. The developers have stated that as classes become reworked, their Mastery passives will need to be adjusted to compensate. Passives can only be used by Pure Class characters, and the option gets removed if you enable subclassing.

Best Class Mastery Passives
Dragonknight
The best Dragonknight class mastery passive is Wildfire Embers which deals bonus Flame Damage, stacking up to 12 times and increasing in damage by 25% per stack.
Necromancer
The best class mastery passive for Necromancers is Cycle Unending, which upgrades Reusable Parts to grant a unique buff which increases the potency of your damage done by 1% for every 1% Health you have more than your target, up to a damage bonus cap of 25% or 10% versus players.
Nightblade
The Nightblade Class Mastery passive Above and Beyond is extremely powerful, providing a bonus 25% Critical Damage and Healing at all times. This passive also increases your maximum Critical Damage and Healing by 30% beyond the critical damage cap. Equally powerful is An Eye for Exploitation, which increases your Weapon and Spell Damage by up 2000, and reduces your damage taken based on your target’s missing Health.
Sorcerer
The best class mastery passive for the Sorcerer class is Font of Power, which modifies the Exploitation passive to work with any Sorcerer ability and increases your Weapon and Spell Damage by 16% for 10 seconds. Sorcerers also gain an additional 1% to this effect for every 1750 Magicka or Stamina they have, whichever is higher.
Templar
The best class mastery passive for the Templar class is Judgment’s Brand, which increases the damage done by your Templar abilities by 1400 for 3.1 seconds whenever Burning Light deals damage. This will be especially good if your build is focused on Biting Jabs or Puncturing Sweep, as those attacks hit more frequently and will therefore benefit the most from the increased damage applied to each hit.
Warden
The clear winner for the Warden Class at this point when it comes to mastery passives is Wild Adaptation, which provides 333 Weapon and Spell Damage for each status effect on your target, up to a maximum of 1665. For a status effect build, this results in a monstrous DPS increase. Look to combine this with the Glacial Obstinance passive to grant another 15% boost to Weapon Damage and Spell Damage.
The Warden Class refresh is coming next, so expect these passives to change the soonest.
Arcanist
The Abyssal Emergence passive is extremely strong for Arcanist DPS builds, boosting your Weapon and Spell damage for 15 seconds after casting an Arcanist Ultimate. This could be useful in Solo content as well to burn through bosses. Equally powerful will be the Unbound Potential passive which upgrades your already powerful Fated Fortune passive.

Is Class Mastery Better Than Subclassing?
The honest answer right now is: it depends on your class.
Subclassing in ESO is still extremely strong. Subclassing gives you access to two additional passive trees, extra skill options, and the utility that comes with mixing and matching class lines. That is a significant amount of power and flexibility. For focused builds such as DPS Builds, Tank Builds, and Healer Builds, Subclassing is generally going to still be preferred, though not always. Some classes, such as Nightblades and Wardens have exceptionally powerful damage passives, making their pure class builds a strong alternative for group DPS setups.
