Update 50 is bringing one of the most exciting additions to Elder Scrolls Online in years: Class Mastery Passives. These are exclusive passive bonuses available only to pure class builds — characters who use all three of their native class skill lines without subclassing. Every class gets five passives to choose from, and you can slot two at a time.

Dragonknight Class Masteries Explained
Inexorable Descent
Inexorable Descent is one of the simplest class mastery passives for the Dragonknight. It simply buffs the effect of your Landslide passive, effectively increasing your damage done, healing done, and damage shield strength. Landslide gains stacks when you deal damage and loses damage when you don’t, which rewards active combat and pressure gameplay.
Booming Voice
The Booming Voice simply adds a recovery effect to The Storm Voice passive. This passive already restores a specific amount of resources based on the cost of the Ultimate that you just cast, and the Booming Voice passive adds some additional recovery after a delay of 15 seconds.
Wildfire Embers
Wildfire Embers is a strong passive for DOT-focused builds, adding a unique Damage over Time effect to the target when your most recent DOT ends, dealing 1884 Flame Damage over 12 seconds. What’s even better is that Wildfire Embers can stack and the damage increases by 25% each time, up to 12 stacks.
Resolute Defense
Resolute Defense is useful for Dragonknight Tanks, as it can increase the amount of damage you can block by up to 30% if you remain actively bracing (holding down block). You also gain a secondary effect from this passive which can restore 500 stamina at random, helping you maintain your block for even longer.
Lead from the Front
Lead from the Front is an excellent support passive aimed at supporting group members. Whenever you cast an Ultimate with your Dragonknight you will use The Storm Voice passive which grants you bonus resources but which also triggers Lead from the Front. This bonus effect provides two powerful buffs to you and your group: Major Berserk and Major Protection, which increases your damage by 10% and reduces your damage taken by 10%, respectively. Keep in mind that the duration of Lead from the Front depends on how much Ultimate you spent to activate The Storm Voice.

Dragonknight Best Class Mastery Passive
The best Dragonknight class mastery passive for most builds is Wildfire Embers, which deals bonus Flame Damage, stacking up to 12 times and increasing in damage by 25% per stack. This passive will be ideal for DPS Builds, Solo Builds, and even PVP Dragonknight builds whose goal is to deal as much damage as possible.
For a Dragonknight Tank build, the best class mastery passive is Resolute Defense as this increases the amount of damage you can block while also giving you a chance to restore some stamina.
For healers and support builds, make sure to select Lead from the Front, as this passive provides you and your group Major Berserk and Major Protection.
How Class Mastery Works
In order to use the new Class Mastery passives, your character must have hit Level 50 and also leveled their three class skill lines to level 50. Once your skill lines are maxed out, a new skill line option called Class Mastery will appear.
The Class Mastery skill line contains 5 passives. Players have 2 skill points here to spend, allowing you to unlock 2 of the 5 passives.
Class Mastery passives can be reset at any time, allowing you to experiment or change your build on the fly.
Keep in mind that Class Mastery passives are fluid and may change from patch to patch. The developers have stated that as classes become reworked, their Mastery passives will need to be adjusted to compensate.
Is Class Mastery Better Than Subclassing?
The honest answer is: it depends on your class.
Subclassing in ESO is still extremely strong. Subclassing gives you access to two additional passive trees, extra skill options, and the utility that comes with mixing and matching class lines. That is a significant amount of power and flexibility. For focused builds such as DPS Builds, Tank Builds, and Healer Builds, Subclassing is generally going to still be preferred, though not always. Some classes, such as Nightblades and Wardens have exceptionally powerful damage passives through Class Mastery, making their pure class builds a strong alternative for group DPS setups.
