Update 50 is bringing one of the most exciting additions to Elder Scrolls Online in years: Class Mastery Passives. These are exclusive passive bonuses available only to pure class builds — characters who use all three of their native class skill lines without subclassing. Every class gets five passives to choose from, and you can slot two at a time.

Sorcerer Class Masteries Explained
Conservation of Energy
The Conservation of Energy class mastery gives your Blood Magic passive a resource sustain buff. First, you can now trigger the effect by using any ability with a cost, rather than only with Dark Magic abilities. Moreover, in addition to the base healing you receive, you will now also get back Stamina and Magicka. This is a decent choice for any player struggling with survivability and/or sustain and is especially recommended for Solo Builds.
Font of Power
Font of Power is another class mastery that grants a buff to a class passive, this time Exploitation. With this unlocked you can now trigger the Minor Prophecy buff by using any Sorcerer ability. Additionally, it will also now buff your Weapon and Spell Damage, which makes this a great class mastery choice for any Sorcerer DPS build or Solo Build aimed at better damage numbers.
Static Reverberation
Static Reverberation grants you a small 5% chance to deal additional Shock damage anytime you hit or damage an enemy. Moreover, the lower the target’s health drops, the higher the chance to deal with extra damage gets. However, there is a serious debuff to this effect if you are running a ‘pet’ build, because the chance is divided by 1 plus every permanent pet you have active.
Calculated Defense
Calculated Defense is a buff that will provide you with some additional protection when using Sorcerer abilities or any ability with a cast time. Triggering such an ability will give you a damage shield that lasts just half a second, and can absorb up to 8000 damage. This is a class mastery passive that could be useful for group support builds like tanks and healers because if the shield doesn’t break, you and nearby group members gain a unique 6% Weapon and Spell Damage for 20 seconds that will stack with all other buffs as it isn’t a named Major or Minor effect.
Sphere of Influence
Sphere of Influence would be a good class mastery for support Sorcerer builds, looking to boost their ability to protect themselves or allies. With it, any damage shield you cast is buffed for an additional 4000 damage for 4 seconds. Furthermore, the recipient of the shield will also get 225 Health, Magicka, and Stamina Recovery for 12 seconds. The shield scales off the higher of your Max Health or Max Magicka, and is capped at 25% of the target’s Max Health.

Sorcerer Best Class Mastery Passive
The best class mastery passive for the Sorcerer class is Font of Power, which modifies the Exploitation passive to work with any Sorcerer ability and increases your Weapon and Spell Damage by 16% for 10 seconds. Sorcerers also gain an additional 1% to this effect for every 1750 Magicka or Stamina they have, whichever is higher.
How Class Mastery Works
In order to use the new Class Mastery passives, your character must have hit Level 50 and also leveled their three class skill lines to level 50. Once your skill lines are maxed out, a new skill line option called Class Mastery will appear.
The Class Mastery skill line contains 5 passives. Players have 2 skill points here to spend, allowing you to unlock 2 of the 5 passives.
Class Mastery passives can be reset at any time, allowing you to experiment or change your build on the fly.
Keep in mind that Class Mastery passives are fluid and may change from patch to patch. The developers have stated that as classes become reworked, their Mastery passives will need to be adjusted to compensate.
Is Class Mastery Better Than Subclassing?
The honest answer is: it depends on your class.
Subclassing in ESO is still extremely strong. Subclassing gives you access to two additional passive trees, extra skill options, and the utility that comes with mixing and matching class lines. That is a significant amount of power and flexibility. For focused builds such as DPS Builds, Tank Builds, and Healer Builds, Subclassing is generally going to still be preferred, though not always. Some classes, such as Nightblades and Wardens have exceptionally powerful damage passives through Class Mastery, making their pure class builds a strong alternative for group DPS setups.
