Introduction to character slots in ESO
Let’s begin with the fundamentals: how do character slots work in ESO?
A character slot in the Elder Scrolls Online allows you to build and play a character. By default, all accounts start with a maximum of 8 total Character Slots per Megaserver (NA or EU).
How Much is a New Character Slot in ESO?
To increase the number of character slots on your account you must purchase the Additional Character Slot from the Crown Store. This can be found under the Upgrades category within the Account subsection as shown below. For each Character Slot that you wish to unlock it will cost 1,500 Crowns.
What is the Max number of character slots?
Currently, you can purchase up to 9 additional Character Slots from the Crown Store if you only own the base game of ESO. However, if you own the Elsweyr Chapter expansion you are able to purchase one additional character slot.
The current maximum number of characters you can have on a server is 18.
New Character Slots Coming in 2023
With the upcoming Necrom expansion in June 2023, Zenimax Online Studios has announced during their reveal presentation that players who purchase the expansion will receive one free Character Slot. They further revealed that they will be adding an additional Character Slot for purchase from the Crown store. This will bring to total available character slot number up to a total of 20.
