Can you hide your Helmet in The Elder Scrolls Online?

Short Answer: YES! The purpose of this guide is to help you achieve the desired look for your character in the Elder Scrolls Online fast!

Over the years, there’s been plenty of changes in ESO. One often overlooked change that occurred in Update 17 alongside the release of the Dragon Bones DLC caused some confusion for veteran and new players alike: How do I hide THIS UGLY Helmet? Luckily, as you’ll see below, the answer is straightforward and requires only a few quick steps in either your Collections Menu or while at an Outfit Station.

How to hide your Helmet using Collections

To completely hide your helmet or hat, open your Collections Menu and select the Appearance tab, then select the Hats section from the options on your right select and apply the Hide Your Helm option.

That’s all it takes! Your character’s head is now on display for the world to see! Note that this works only for hiding regular equipment and costume helmets or hats. For Polymorph helmets you’ll need to head to an Outfit Station and follow the instructions below.

How to hide your helmet using an Outfit Station

Once at an Outfit Station, simply select the Equipment tab, then select the Armor Styles sub section and then select the Head section. Then select and apply the Hide Your Helm option right next to the Clear Slot option.

Hiding Polymorph Helmets in ESO

Now you may be curious if the Hat or Helmet from an equipped Polymorph can also be hidden in The Elder Scrolls Online. The answer is YES, though this is a bit harder to find.

For PC users, to hide your collectible Polymorph helmets or hats you’ll need to Press the [Esc] key, select Settings and then click on the Gameplay section. Navigate down to the Items subsection and then toggle the Hide Polymorph Helmet option ON/OFF. (See below)

For Console users you’ll need to Press either the [Options] or [Menu] button and navigate to the Options menu. Once here, go to the Gameplay section and then scroll through to the Hide Polymorph Helmet option and toggle it ON/OFF. (See below)

How to hide Disguise Helmets in ESO

As it currently stands in the Elder Scrolls Online, you cannot hide your helmet or hat while using a disguise on your character. Hopefully this changes in the future!
