One of the defining features of any MMORPG is character creation. However, sometimes you may regret the choices you’ve made during character creation and want to change them. In the Elder Scrolls Online, this can include your character’s race. Whether you’ve made a mistake, want to join a group of friends in another alliance, or just want to try something new, here’s how to change your race in ESO.
How to change race in ESO
While seeming like a monumental decision, changing your race is actually straightforward.
To change your Race in ESO you must purchase a Race Change Token from the Crown Store. Next, log out of ESO to the Character Select screen and click on the Race Change Token which should now be highlighted at the bottom of the screen.
Note that if you wish to change your character’s race to one that is part of a different ESO Alliance then you will also need to purchase the Any Race, Any Alliance Upgrade in the Crown Store to do so. This upgrade allows you to change your character Race to any other Race option you can access regardless of your character’s selected Alliance.
Changing to the Imperial Race in ESO
If you would like to change your character’s race to Imperial you must first have access to the Imperial race, which can be purchased directly through the crown store, or received as part of the collector’s Imperial edition. Once unlocked you then have the ability to change race to Imperial using the same steps provided above.
How to change race in ESO for free
If you are on a tight budget and don’t have any crowns to spend, the alternative option would be to create a new character using your desired race and class. To do so you may also need to unlock more character slots.
