Cyrodiil is the main PVP area for the Elder Scrolls Online allowing for massive open-world battles, but getting there is not the most intuitive for brand-new players. This guide aims to help you get to Cyrodiil in the easiest way possible so that you can expend all your effort fighting for the glory of your chosen Alliance.

What level can you go to Cyrodiil?
All characters can unlock the ability to travel to Cyrodiil starting at level 10.
When to go to Cyrodiil
This is a more personal question for each individual player of ESO and MMORPGs in general. If you truly enjoy PVP as a playstyle then I highly recommend jumping in as soon as possible as you will be able to reap the most amount of rewards, experience, and quests out of it early on.
However, even if you’re mainly a PVE type of player there is still great content worth diving into and the good news is it will be particularly forgiving and easier to complete quests and achievements on the Below 50 campaign (this is a separate Server, see below) that would otherwise be very risky and even dangerous/requiring serious planning, coordination, and good old fashion luck to complete in more high leveled, geared, competitive campaigns.
Ultimately, the sooner the better in order to learn the ropes, get a feel for the style of play, mechanics, and environment and then you’ll be properly equipped to make an informed decision on whether or not Cyrodiil is for you.
How to get to Cyrodiil
To get to Cyrodiil you must first join a Campaign. This is Zenimax’s creative flair for what is in actuality a dedicated PVP server. As you can see below there are several different types to choose from. This is ultimately why you cannot simply travel to Cyrodiil via a Wayshrine like other locations, zones, or realms in the game.
There are several versions of Cyrodiil available to PVP players in ESO including:
- Alliance Locked: In these Campaigns, your account will only be able to participate with a single Alliance for the duration of the Campaign.
- Standard No-CP: All standard rules for PVP apply, but Champion Points cannot be used.
- Standard: All standard rules for PVP apply including the use of Champion Points.
- Below Level 50: All standard rules for PVP apply. Players must be below level 50.
Once you’ve chosen your preferred server option, then choose “Enter Campaign”. The queue goes almost instantaneous, so you won’t have to wait too long, you’ll be met with a loading screen and ported into your alliance’s main stronghold/base of operations.

What if my Alliance is full?
If your Cyrodiil Alliance is full in a specific campaign you may be placed into a Wait List queue. Simply wait out this time by completing other activities in game and you will be invited to the campaign when your number is up.
Can I change my Alliance?
There are two primary ways to change your alliance in The Elder Scrolls Online. One of the fastest ways to change your Alliance is to create a new character with a new race and faction. If you prefer to keep the same character then the only way to change your Alliance in ESO is to purchase an Alliance Change Token from the Crown Store for 2500 Crowns. This token can only be used on the character select screen. After use, the character will log in to the capital city of their new alliance. Some quests that are in progress will be reset or replaced. Home capaign and associated leaderboard placement will also be reset. A new home campaign can be chosen after 12 hours.
Note: You must own the Any Race, Any Alliance upgrade to purchase this token.

Choosing a Home Campaign
Setting a Home Campaign in ESO calculates your score for the duration of the campaign to determine where you are on the leaderboards and send you an end of campaign reward. You can only change your Home Campaign once every 12 hours.

How to leave Cyrodiil
To avoid any awkward “Hotel California” situations where you start panicking in chat trying to leave Cyrodiil, simply travel to your Alliance Gate area. This is the location you would have loaded into when you joined the Campaign. Once at the Alliance Gate location find the Wayshrine nearby and travel to any other desired Wayshrine location outside of Cyrodiil and you will be sent there immediately.
Congratulations, you have successfully left the war-torn realm of Cyrodiil!
