To efficiently level up the Mages Guild in ESO, the primary method is to collect lore books from specific book sets scattered throughout Tamriel. You can optimize your progress by systematically exploring each zone in Tamriel and diligently reading these books.

Completing a chapter or set of lore books is the most important part of the Mages Guild leveling process. A completed set significantly boosts your Mages Guild Reputation/experience. Each zone has its own set of chapters and series, making it beneficial to tackle them zone by zone. The good news is that you’ll need to collect fewer overall lore books to reach your goal using this method which helps to speed up the leveling process.

Additionally, utilizing helpful add-ons such as the Lorebooks addon on PC can significantly enhance your experience. This addon marks lorebook locations directly on your map, making it easier to track and collect them. Unfortunately, there is no version of this add-on for console users, though looking up zone maps online can help.

How to Start the Mages Guild Questline

To embark on your journey within the Mages Guild, you must first join the guild. The location varies depending on your ESO Alliance, but the process is the same. Look for the Mages Guild (Arcane Eye) symbol on your map, and seek out the respective guild halls in your faction’s main city. Once there, find and talk to the local Mages Guild representative to express your interest in joining, and boom, you’ve joined the guild and begun the Mages Guild quest line!

Mages Guild Daily Quests

Once you’ve joined the Mages Guild, you can complete daily quests by visiting the Mages Guild Hall in any of the main alliance hub cities.

Speak to the NPC called Alvur Baren, who will task you with recovering a Sheogorath artifact from a randomly selected base-game public dungeon. You will need to travel to the specified public dungeon, retrieve the artifact at the quest marker and then return to Alvur Baren to hand in the quest and receive your reward.

Mages Guild Daily Quest rewards include a Mages Guild Merits container, which generally contains an enchanting glyph, some ornate gear to sell at a vendor, and might also contain a page from the Draugr style motif or associated crafting materials. You will also receive 10 Mages Guild Reputation, helping you to advance the skill line faster.

The main reason for doing this daily, similar to the Fighter Guild Dailies, is to level your Companions Mage Guild Level, as this is the only way outside of the event ticket vendor items to increase their Mages Guild Skill line.
