One Bar Builds in The Elder Scrolls Online are a favorite of many players due to their simplicity and ease of play. At the most basic level, One Bar Builds in ESO are made to avoid “bar swapping” – the mechanic of switching between primary and backup weapons, each with their own set of skills.

A good One Bar Build for ESO should have a solid mix of Damage, Healing, and Survival. Your choice of skills and sets for One Bar Builds are even more important than a standard build for ESO because you’ll need to do more with less if you still want to successfully complete content.

1. What is a one bar build in ESO?
A one bar build in The Elder Scrolls Online uses only a single weapon skill bar, meaning all your active skills, healing, and damage tools fit on one set of five ability slots and one Ultimate, with no bar swapping required during combat.
2. Why would I play a one bar build instead of a two bar build?
One bar builds eliminate bar swapping and reduce the number of actions per minute required to sustain your rotation, letting you focus on positioning, mechanics, and staying alive instead of swapping two sets of skills frequently in combat.
3. Are one bar builds viable in ESO?
Yes. One bar builds can comfortably handle Overland content, Delves, World Bosses, Public Dungeons, normal and veteran Dungeons, and even some Veteran Hard Mode content with the right setup. They are not the highest ceiling option for endgame Trials speed runs, but they are competitive in practically everything else the game offers.
4. Can I play a one bar build without the Oakensoul Ring?

The subclassing system introduced in 2025 has made one bar builds significantly stronger by letting players slot powerful skill lines like Nightblade Assassination or Necromancer Grave Lord onto any class, filling in damage, utility, or sustain gaps that a single base class skill bar could not previously cover on its own.
