Here’s a complete list of every ability for the Monk in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles – JP costs, unlock requirements, and what each one does.

In Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles (FFT), your character picks one job (class) and then evolves into different jobs as you level up. The more advanced the job, the better stats, abilities, and power you gain. In FFT, you earn Job Points (JP), which act as experience. Every action you take earns you JP for your current act job.
At the start of the game, you can either pick Squire or Chemist, with the main character defaulting to Squire. After that, you can level up with the Knight and then reach the Monk. The Monk is one of the strongest overall Jobs and pairs well with an end-game Job Ninja. It can self-heal, revive allies, do damage at range and melee and much more.
In this guide, we show you all for the Monk Job and explain all the abilities so you can pick the right ones!

Overview of the Monk Job
The Monk is unlocked by reaching Job Level 3 with Knight. Therefore, you want to pick Squire and level it Level 2, then Knight to Level 3 and unlock Monk. Monks excel in unarmed combat, dealing high physical damage and offering support through healing and revival abilities. With great HP, Brave-based counters, and chakra-powered utility, Monks are among the most self-sufficient jobs in the early and mid-game.
Why Use a Monk:
- High base damage without needing weapons.
- Strong utility skills like Chakra (restore HP/MP) and Revive.
- Strong stat growth entire game
Pro Tips:
- High Brave = higher damage, more Counter triggers.
- Leave Monks unarmed to maximize their damage output.
- Use Chakra when HP is low or for emergency group healing.
- Revive has no charge time, perfect for mid-battle recovery.

Tips for Unlocking and Using Monk Abilities
The best to unlock the Monk is by picking Squire at level 1. From here, learn the JP Boost ability, which helps power level any Job. Then, learn Move +1 from the Squire as well to increase overall speed. After reaching level two or higher with Squire, move to Knight and make sure to equip the support and movement abilities from Squire. Only stick with Knight for 3 levels then move onto the Monk. Unlock the Chakra ability first so you can self-heal and increase your survivability dramatically.
Below are some other tips and tricks for Monk Abilities:
- Chakra + Revive makes Monk a solid self-sustaining backup healer.
- Pair Monk with high Brave to make the most of Counter and other physical abilities.
- Move-HP Up is excellent on frontliners to keep them topped off passively.
- Use Wave Fist or Earth Slash to deal ranged or vertical damage without needing a weapon.
- Martial Arts support ability is useful on any unit with no weapon equipped (e.g., Mime or bare-handed Knight).
- Monk falls off slightly in magical encounters—supplement with Mystic or Time Mage secondary if needed.
