Final Fantasy Tactics Best Builds Explained
Every build in The Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster is more than just choosing a job, we combine every aspect to help you create the ultimate party including: jobs (classes), job progression, best abilities to take, gear, party composition, general strategy, stat growth, and combat tips. These builds can take you from the early game all the way until end game!
Here’s a sample of all the critical choices you can make in an Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster build:
- Job – think of job(s) as your class. Each class offers unique abilities, equipment options, and strategic roles. You cannot respec, but you can unlock new jobs by leveling up your current.
- Job Points – while on a specific job, you earn Job Points (JP) which is used to purchase abilities from that current job. You’ll also earn EXP or experience at the same time which increases your overall level.
- Primary Skills – your current job will always be your primary skills, and every unit can equip a support ability and a reaction ability, in addition to a movement ability.
- Secondary Skills – any previous job and abilities you’ve learned can be equipped in the secondary skills slot, also known as a secondary job command. This allows for strategic flexibility and lets you combine abilities for more damage, healing, or utility.
- Weapons – your main damage output source, and it’s essential for optimizing damage via physical attacks, magickal attacks, or other damage types. Selecting the right weapon and equipment can help you deal maximum damage to specific enemies.
- Armor – in order to reduce incoming damage and get unique perks, your armor selection is critical. High HP is especially important for tank builds to survive boss fights and frontline combat.
- Accessories – these are how you increase movement, evasion chance, or raw damage. Some accessories and support abilities can help you achieve maximum damage or more damage output.
- Party Composition – most battles allow you to select up to 5 party members, each of which is key to your success. Prepare for boss fights by including emergency healing and status ailment management in your party setup.
- Stat Growth – each level you reach will reward you stats based on your current job. While this doesn’t sound important, for min-max purposes, some jobs have wildly different stats and optimal progression. Certain jobs offer better ma growth for magic-focused builds.
When building your party, consider the balance of classes, roles, and abilities to handle different combat scenarios. For boss fights, ensure you have emergency healing and ways to remove status ailments to keep your team alive.
If you want to min-max your characters, pay attention to stat growth and class progression. Optimizing for massive damage or survivability will depend on your chosen class and build path.
When selecting equipment, consider not only the best weapons and armor for your class, but also how to counter enemy casters with specific reaction abilities or support abilities.

Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster Builds with Perks, Skills, and Detailed Equipment Detailed List Below
Our list of builds contain all the important choices you need to optimize your recruits depending on your playstyle. Click the image or title below to be directed to your desired build in Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles.

Squire Build
The Squire is the starting job for physical damage dealers in FFT. However, Ramza gains access to special abilities and making him effective as a Squire throughout the entire game. Therefore, if you want simple, effective, and the foundation of all physical DPS builds, this is it. Make sure to get skills like JP Boost and Focus, regardless of if you plan to use the build for long, as these make it easy to power level other jobs more quickly by farming JP.

Chemist Build
For magic users, you want to start as a Chemist build for job progression. The Chemist is one of the strongest builds early on, and some of their skills and abilities are critical for late game success like Auto-Potion. Moreover, you can use Throw Items and benefit from all the consumables while playing other jobs (offensive or defensive). Even as you progress into later jobs, the abilities to use items such as potions for healing and Phoenix Down for revives is going to be key.

Archer Build
The Archer is your first ranged physical damage dealer. The job uses Aim to charge damage over time and eventually let out a massive arrow. This is a good build to pair with a melee dominate party early due to the ranged and burst damage it provides. However, early and with high elevation you can blast enemies with Aim abilities.

Knight Build
Your first “tank” build, the Knight excels at disabling enemies and high survivability. You can use Rend abilities to destroy items like weapons and armor, making Knights a go-to for boss battles and front-line attacking units. Pair with Dual Wield learned from Ninja for devastating damage.

White Mage Build
The White Mage is your prototypical healer and support build. However, the White Mage can also do damage to undead with healing spells and Holy. The ability to heal, revive, and deal damage makes them a great all around build for each party. Make sure to learn the Holy damage spell as it comes in handy in end-game battles.
For equipment, consider using the chameleon robe, which grants Holy absorption and MP sustain. This is especially useful for builds that rely on Holy magic or need to heal from Holy damage during tough battles.

Black Mage Build
Your first elemental and AOE damage unit, the Black Mage excels at DPS. You can use the Black Mage build throughout most of the game and do great single target and AOE via Black Magic, though they require healing and support to maximize their effectiveness. These nukers are great with a secondary heal ability like Items from the Chemist.

Monk Build
One of the strongest and most fun of all builds in FFT, the Monk is a physical damage dealer that can heal, revive, and has range. You use your fist for damage, forgoing the need for constant weapon upgrades. Overall, you can’t go wrong with the Monk. Pair with Ninja in end game and Dual Wield makes them OP.

Thief Build
When it comes to utility, high speed, and stealing end-game gear, nothing beats the Thief. Equipping a thief hat is highly recommended, as it boosts both speed and evasion, making your Thief more effective at stealing and surviving tough encounters. This build is designed to steal items from priority foes, similar to the Knight’s rend, weakening enemies.
Unlike the Knight, you get to keep the items, making the Thief build useful throughout all of FFT Remaster. Thief builds share many similarities with ninjas, especially in terms of speed and utility; both can benefit from support skills like ‘two swords’ and ‘invisibility’ for even greater versatility. Steal Heart is your go-to early with tons of options later on.

Time Mage Build
The Time Mage manipulates time by slowing down enemies or speeding up allies. Haste, Slow, and Teleport abilities make this one of the most powerful spellcaster builds in the game. For persistent speed boosts, consider equipping items or abilities that grant auto haste, such as Tynar Rouge, which provides auto haste, auto protect, and auto shell, allowing your characters to act more quickly and improve survivability in battles. You also have some offensive spells like Gravity and Meteor, making them balanced and effective in any content. Time Mage has some of the strongest secondary abilities in the game making it useful for nearly any spellcaster to learn.

Geomancer Build
Geomancers rely on physical damage dealing with elemental ground attacks. Depending on the surface of the ground, will determine your spells. This build specializes in a hybrid playstyle with emphasis on status effects and a unique combination of stats and abilities. Unlock Tanglevine early to lock down enemies!

Summoner Build
For fans of AOE spellcasting, nothing beats the Summoner Build. Huge area damage without the worry of hurting friendly allies. The Summoner build also has healing and utility, making it one of the strongest of all spellcasters in FF Tactics. Summoners can also learn healing and buff spells too so don’t skip this job.

Ninja Build
The Ninja build is the true speed king, allowing players to not only go early in combat, but also have a physical damage dealer with range! Ninja’s uniquely use dual wielding, giving you two swings with weapons, making them one of the best melee damage dealers in all of FFT. You can unlock Ninja just to learn dual wield then swap back to the Knight or Monk.
For advanced strategies, combining Ninja skills with the Dark Knight class can further enhance both mobility and offensive power, making it a strong end-game option for characters seeking maximum versatility.
Ramza Build
Ramza has a unique class in FFT called the Gallant Knight which is expanded Squire. This build takes advantage of his additional abilities, stat growth, and transforms him into a powerhouse melee character. If you want a great build for your main character, check out this Ninja / Monk combo great throughout the entire game of FFT Remaster.
Dragoon Build
The Dragoon job is known for jump, leaping across the map to hit enemies. Our build features this jump concept but also leans into the Dragoon’s incredible survivability. You will use Dragoon + Monk to be a melee tank powerhouse with tons of damage and versatility.
Samurai Build
Check out this hybrid melee spellcaster Samurai build. Using Katanas, the Samurai cast powerful AOE damage spells and buffs. Moreover, you gain access to applying status effects to nearby enemies giving you a powerful and different way to play a melee damage dealer in FFT.
Mystic Build
The ultimate debuff job, the Mystic uses the Mystic Arts to cast powerful spells. This build helps turn enemies on each other, puts them to sleep, and overall is a nightmare for the opposing team. With the right secondary ability, you can do damage or heal, providing your team with a powerful utility character.
Orator Build
For end-game players looking to min-max their bravery and faith, you must pickup the Orator Build. This job allows you to permanently increase or decrease bravery and faith, casting spells instantly without MP or cast time. This is a perfect build and skill set to pickup at end game for serious players of FFT Remaster.

Arithmetician Build
The Arithmetician (formerly Calculator) is one of the most broken jobs in FFT! This mathematical mage manipulates battlefield geometry to cast any learned spell instantly and without MP cost across multiple units at once. Instead of targeting individuals, the Arithmetician uses formulas based on factors like level, height, experience, or CT count, allowing area-wide spellcasting with devastating precision.
Final Fantasy Tactics Build Tips
Final Fantasy Tactics is celebrated for its deep tactical gameplay and the sheer variety of strategies available to players. In Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, mastering the game’s job system is essential for building a powerful team and overcoming the toughest battles. Early in the game, your focus should be on developing a well-rounded party that can handle a range of challenges. This means balancing physical DPS, magical DPS, and reliable healing.
Job points are the currency of progression in Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, allowing you to unlock new abilities and jobs as you play. Choosing where to invest your job points early on can shape your team’s effectiveness for the rest of the game. Do you focus on your primary job or expand out to pick up useful secondary skills and passives? Stat growth is another key factor – leveling up in certain jobs will influence your characters’ long-term power, so planning your job progression is crucial for maximizing potential.
In the early game, jobs like Squire, Chemist, and White Mage are your go-to choices. The Squire provides a solid foundation for physical attacks and job point farming, while the Chemist offers essential healing and item support. The White Mage brings powerful healing spells and emergency revival, making it a staple for most teams. These base jobs are versatile and help you build up the abilities and job points needed to unlock more advanced roles.
As you progress, new jobs like Time Mage, Black Mage, and Knight become available, each bringing unique abilities and playstyles to your team. The Time Mage stands out for its ability to manipulate the flow of battle with spells like Haste and Slow, giving your team a crucial speed advantage. The Black Mage specializes in dealing massive magic attack damage to multiple enemies, making it a top choice for magical DPS. Meanwhile, the Knight, equipped with heavy armor and powerful Rend abilities, serves as a frontline tank capable of withstanding and dishing out physical damage.
Choosing the right equipment options for each job is also vital. Heavy armor boosts survivability for your tanks, while robes and hats can enhance magic attack and speed for your casters. As you unlock more jobs and abilities, experimenting with different combinations will help you find the most effective strategies for your playstyle.
