Path of Exile 2 just introduced its newest class, the Druid, and it is easily one of the fastest and smoothest campaign clearers in the game right now. With insane mobility, powerful stuns, and devastating lightning-based attacks, the Druid tears through enemies while constantly shifting between different forms.
This build fully embraces the Druid’s shape-shifting mechanics, blending Bear, Wolf, and Wyvern forms into a fluid, high-speed playstyle that feels both powerful and incredibly fun. In this guide, we’ll break down the best skills, weapons, passive tree choices, and how to play the Druid effectively from the very start of the campaign.
Best Druid Skills
The Beginner Druid build focuses on fast movement, constant form swapping, and empowered basic attacks. You’ll rotate between Bear slams, Wolf mobility, and Wyvern lightning damage to overwhelm enemies while staying safe and mobile.
1. Lightning Bolt
The Druid begins the campaign wielding a Voltaic Staff that casts Lightning Bolt. This is a solid early-game spell that lets you safely damage enemies from range while learning basic positioning. While it won’t be a long-term damage skill, it pairs nicely with your early molten abilities and helps you clear safely before shape-shifting fully comes online.
Recommended Support Gems:
- None, as you will quickly replace this skill.
2. Volcano
Volcano sprays molten projectiles in front of you, dealing area damage to nearby enemies. Channeling the skill causes more projectiles to be released, making it an excellent early-game AoE option. Combined with Lightning Bolt, Volcano gives you strong ranged coverage before you fully commit to melee combat.
This skill is especially useful early against tougher enemies like the Bloated Miller and remains a nice filler damage option while building rage in Bear form.
Recommended Support Gems:
- None, as you will quickly replace this skill.
3. Maul
Shortly after starting, you’ll obtain a unique talisman weapon that enables shape-shifting. At first, you’ll have access to Bear and Wolf forms, and for this build, Bear form is the priority early on. The basic attack, called Maul, can stun enemies and also builds rage, which increases your damage and amplifies other Bear attacks.
Recommended Support Gems:
- Rapid Attacks: Increases attack speed and smooths out the Bear rotation.
4. Furious Slam
Furious Slam is the backbone of your Bear gameplay. While in Bear form, this skill slams the ground, creating powerful AoE shockwaves. Using your Bear basic attack builds rage, which Furious Slam consumes to create even larger shockwaves for massive damage.
Recommended Support Gems:
- Fist of War: Ancestrally boosts the slam, increasing damage and area of effect. Its cooldown naturally fits your rage-building rhythm.
- Rapid Attacks: Increases attack speed.
5. Pounce
Your first level 3 skill gem unlocks Pounce, which shifts you into Wolf form and lets you leap to a target location, damaging enemies on impact and summoning wolf minions. The wolves themselves are not a focus for this build, but the mobility Pounce provides is invaluable.
Pounce is primarily used to reposition quickly, engage enemies faster, and keep the combat flow aggressive.
Recommended Support Gems:
- Fist of War: can be moved here later once Bear Slam becomes less central.
6. Wing Blast
Wing Blast transforms your druid into a Wyvern, heavy stunning enemies that are primed for Stun and building Power Charges. This is essential to the build, especially versus bosses, as the Power Charges you build with Wing Blast can then empower your basic Wyvern attack with Lightning.
Recommended Support Gems:
- Any
7. Rend
The build truly comes online when you unlock Wyvern form. Equipping Wyvern form on your talisman changes your default attack to Rend, which becomes your main damage source for the rest of the campaign.
Rend is extremely powerful when empowered by power charges. Consuming a power charge grants bonus lightning damage and extended attack range, turning your basic attacks into lightning-clearing machines.
Your core combo now becomes: Pounce to engage, Rend for lightning damage, Wing Blast to stun and generate charges, then repeat.
This loop works incredibly well against bosses, especially when combined with Furious Slam to help build stun meters.
Recommended Support Gems:
- Rage: You no longer gain rage since we are not using Bear Form for basic attacks (Maul), so use a Rage support gem here.
- Rapid Attacks: Improves attack speed for smoother damage.
- Brink: Use this support to build Stun quickly while also not heavy stunning until you are ready to use Wing Blast.
8. Devour
Devour is unlocked with a level 5 Gem and completely changes how the build plays. This ability lets you leap to nearby corpses or low-health enemies, instantly granting power charges.
With Devour, you effectively gain infinite power charges while clearing, allowing you to keep Rend permanently empowered with lightning damage. At this point, the gameplay loop becomes incredibly fast and fluid.
Pounce, Devour, empowered Rend, repeat.
Against bosses, you’ll still rely on Wing Blast to generate charges, but for general clearing, Devour makes the Druid feel unstoppable.
9. Ferocious Roar
As you move into Act Two, Ferocious Roar adds even more utility by shifting you back into Bear form and empowering attacks to break enemy armor. This is particularly strong against tougher enemies and bosses, helping your lightning and physical damage hit even harder.
By this stage, your passive tree will reward frequent shape-shifting, so rotating between Wolf, Wyvern, and Bear forms becomes optimal.
10. Oil Barrage
At the start of Act Three, Oil Barrage turns the Wyvern Druid into a boss-melting monster. This skill consumes power charges to channel a stream of oil projectiles that rapidly obliterate enemy health bars.
Oil Barrage is best saved for elites and bosses. Use your normal combo to generate power charges, then unleash Oil Barrage to end the fight quickly.
Recommended Support Gems:
- Multi-Shot: Fires additional projectiles for massive damage.
- Rapid Attacks: Increases channel speed.
- Perpetual Charge: Chance to retain power charges, letting you channel longer.
Recommended Starting Passives
Start by increasing attack and spell damage, pathing toward Guardian of the Wild for bonus attributes and elemental damage. From there, grab Harbinger of Disaster for area damage and critical damage bonuses.
Pick up attribute nodes based on your gem requirements, typically favoring Intelligence, with some Dexterity for attack speed supports.
Continue into Personal Touch for increased attack damage and immobilization buildup. From the center of the tree, prioritize all shape-shifting related nodes. These reward you for rotating between forms every few seconds, which fits this build perfectly.
Steel Rage is a standout notable, granting increased physical damage based on rage. Further along, grab nodes that increase damage against immobilized or stunned enemies, as well as Spirit of the Bear for increased stun buildup while shape-shifted.
Best Druid Ascendancy Choice
For ascendancy, the Shaman is the best choice. It offers strong elemental bonuses early, including increased elemental damage. Path upward through Turning of the Seasons to gain random elemental damage effects on enemies, which synergizes extremely well with your lightning-focused playstyle.
How To Play The Druid Class
The Druid’s combat loop is fast, aggressive, and highly mobile. Early on, you’ll rely on Volcano and Bear attacks to control enemies and build rage. As Wyvern form unlocks, your focus shifts to empowered Rend attacks fueled by power charges.
Against groups, Pounce into packs, Devour to generate charges, and tear through enemies with lightning-empowered Rend attacks. Against tougher enemies, rotate into Bear form for armor breaks and stuns, then return to Wyvern form to finish them off.
Boss fights follow a similar rhythm. Use Wing Blast and Furious Slam to build stun and power charges, then unleash Oil Barrage to delete health bars. Constant movement and form swapping keep you safe while maintaining incredible damage uptime.
The Final Word
The Druid is one of the most fun and efficient campaign starters in Path of Exile 2. Its mix of speed, crowd control, and explosive lightning damage makes it feel powerful from start to finish.
