Character Creation & Customization
The following decisions can be made when creating your character in Octopath Traveler 0. Read on below to see each in more detail:
- Physique
- Eye Color
- Hairstyle/Hair Color
- Skin Tone
- Motions / Idle Animation
- Voice
- Learned Skill
- Favorite Dish
- Belongings

Physique
Physique is your first decision in character creation. It does not seem to alter much of your Sprite’s appearance, other than the first option is slightly taller and seems to wear pants while the second option is shorter and appears to wear a skirt. Your choice for physique also limits your choice of character motions (idle movement), as a separate set of motions exist for each physique.

Eye Color
Players will have 8 options to choose from for Eye Color in Octopath Traveler 0 including black, grey, yellow, orange, brown, pink, blue and green.

Hairstyle/Hair Color
The game allows players to choose from 8 basic hairstyles for their main character Sprite. 4 options exist for short hair and 4 options exist for long hair. In addition to the hairstyle, players can use this page to choose the hair color for the main character too. The same color options exist here as for eyes: black, grey, yellow, orange, brown, pink, blue and green.

Skin Tone
Six different skin tone options exist for the main character in Octopath Traveler 0 which range from light to dark.

Motions / Idle Animation
Three choices for motions exist in the character creator. These animations may play when the character is idle or inactive. Note: your choice of motions does change based on your physique, meaning you can go back to change your physique option to see both sets of motions.

Voice
Six choices exist for your main character voice in Octopath Traveler 0.

Learned Skill
Your Learned Skill is an ability you learned when you were young. Players can choose from a Attack Skill, Recovery Skill, or Enfeebling Skill for this option. Note: as a Learned Skill in Octopath Traveler 0, this skill can be equipped by any character on your team, not just the main character.
Learned Skill Options for Character Creation:
- Twin Shot Mastery (Attack Skill) – Select a weapon and deal damage to a foe 2 time(s).
- Healing Prayer Master (Recovery Skill) – Grant HP recovery to an ally and restore SP by 10%.
- Weaken Foundation Mastery (Enfeebling Skill) – Lower Phys. Atk. and Phys. Def. of a foe for 2 turn(s).

Favorite Dish
Players can choose one of eight favorite dish options during character creation in Octopath Traveler 0. This item represents one of the first food buffs you can obtain in the game from the main character’s Mother. You will need to give the dish a name at this time as well.
The 8 options for Favorite Dish are:
- A grilled beef dish that fills you with strength: Max. HP/Max. SP +10%, Phys. Atk. +5%
- A light snack that gives you a boost of energy: Max. HP/Max. SP +10%, Phys. Def. + 5%
- A simmered lamb dish that bolsters your strength in a pinch: Max. HP/Max. SP +10%, Crit. +5%
- A chicken dish that enhances your concentration: Max. HP/Max. SP +10%, Accuracy +5%
- A noodle dish that can be slurped down quickly: Max. HP/Max. SP +10%, Speed +5%
- A stewed vegetable dish that leaves you invigorated: Max. HP/Max. SP +10%, Elem. Def. +5%
- A grilled fish dish that clears your head: Max. HP/Max. SP +10%, Elem. Atk. +5%
- An eye-catching assortment of ingredients: Max. HP/Max. SP +10%, Evasion +5%

Belongings
Belongings are the final step in Character Creation and represent special items that the main character starts their jounrey with in Octopath Traveler 0. Some Belongings can be equipped right away in the main character’s accessory slots while other Belongings will be used later for crafting or to complete quests. Three belongings can be selected during character creation.
There are 8 Octopath Traveler 0 Belongings players can choose from (pick 3):
- Promise Charm: Elem. Atk. +10%
- Fighter’s Wristband: Phys. Atk. +10%
- Sacred Flame Charm: Phys. Def. +10%, Elem. Def. +10%
- Crested Key: A key engraved with the crest of a dagger.
- Letter Fragment: A fragment of a letter. Its content cannot be deciphered.
- Ratatouille: Grants the following effects for 15 turns: Elem. Def. +20%, Phys. Def. + 15%, Fire/Ice/Lightning/Wind Resistance +15%
- Nourishing Nut (M): Greatly increases maximum HP.
- Embershroom Bed: A mushroom bed that can be maintained to yield a harvest of mushrooms at a later date.
The Best Belonging for your character depends on a variety of factors. Are you looking for a quick stat boost at the start of the game? Pick the Fighter’s Wristband, Promise Charm or Nourishing Nut. Looking to invest in town building? Pick the Emershroom Bed. Looking for potential quest solutions? Pick the Crested Key or Letter Fragment. The Final Word
Octopath Traveler 0 gives you plenty of room to shape your protagonist, including physique, hair, eyes, and skin tone, motions, voice, and a childhood skill that any party member can eventually use. Favorite dishes and starting belongings also round things out with small but meaningful perks that carry into the early hours of the game. None of these choices lock you into a playstyle, though they do help set the tone for your journey and give your character a bit of identity right from the start.
The new game launches on December 4, 2025, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. The game is developed by Acquire and published by Square Enix, continuing the studio’s signature HD-2D art style and storytelling tradition that began with the original Octopath Traveler.
