Discover how to create the best Oath of Judgement Paladin build under the D&D 5e 2024 SRD for Solasta 2! This guide has been created for Early Access (EA), and will showcase every decision from character creation, spells, feats, ability score, species and more.

The Oath of Judgement Paladin returns from Solasta I and is still the same defensive powerhouse as it was in the original game. The strength of the build is it’s diversity in Channel Divinity abilities. You can either restrain (crowd control) a target or purge a variety of status effects from a target. The best part about this Channel Divinity ability is it requires a bonus action, not an action. Thus, adding to the action economy and overall utility of the subclass and Paladin build overall.
Note: Some names and values reflect Solasta 2 Early Access conventions and 2024 SRD structure. Where Solasta 2 may later tweak values, the logic and priorities of the build remain valid. If you are familiar with Baldur’s Gate 3 combat, Solasta 2 will play similarly but differently with an updated rules (2024) system. Therefore, don’t expect an exact experience from that previous game.

Why Play the Oath Of Judgement Paladin build for Early Access
The Oath Of Judgement Paladin builds works well in Early Access because of the burst potential the Paladin class provides. The downside is, you won’t have very many spell slots or an effective multiclass option right away. Therefore, you must pick the precise time you use a Divine Smite rather than every single attack.
That said, if you need want high survivability character with charisma for speech checks in dialogue that can still dish out some damage, this Paladin build is a perfect choice.

Saving Throws
Wisdom and Charisma are the Paladin’s saving throws.
Armor & Weapon Proficiencies
The Paladin unlocks Simple and Martial weapons, as well as light, medium, heavy armor and shields.
Subclass
This build uses the Oath of Judgement subclass with the following features unlocked at level 3:
- Gain Channel Divinity resource.
- Divine Sense: Use Channel Divinity to reveal Celestial, Fiend, or Undead creatures 60 feet of you.
- Weight of Justice (Channel Divinity): when you hit a target with melee, you can spend a channel divinity to make target roll a charisma saving throw, taking additional force damage equal to your paladin level and becoming restrained for 1 minute.
- Purge Corruption (Channel Divinity): The Judgment Paladin can use a bonus action to purge Blinded, Deafened, Paralyzed or Poisoned from an ally within 30′.
- Always Prepared Spells:
- Level 3: Guiding Bolt, Inflict Wounds
- Level 5: Heat Metal, Silence
- Level 9: Fear, Haste
The Oath of Judgement Paladin Subclass returns from Solasta 1 and is updated for the new DnD 2024 ruleset. All subclasses in Solasta II are unlocked at level 3, standardizing early progression across classes. Subclass features typically define your combat role, resource usage, and additional effects, actions, or spells.
Best Ancestry (Race / Species)
The Human Species and Ancestry is the best for a Paladin Build because you get an extra Origin Feat, another skill proficiency, and Heroic Inspiration bonus. This gives you even more combat power, utility, and ensures the theme of your build fits. Below is what you unlock with the Human choice:
- Versatile (Extra Feat): Take Robust for extra health, as your background will give you Savage Attacker (most important). If you select a different background, take Savage Attacker with this extra bonus.
- Resourceful (Heroic Inspiration): You gain Heroic Inspiration every time you finish a Long Rest. This allows you to reroll any die (Attack, Save, or Check).
- Versatile: You gain proficiency in one extra skill of your choice (Athletics for exploring).
Human’s have a downside which is no Darkvision. Therefore, make sure you get the Light Cantrip or have a Lantern on you at all times for a source of light in dark places. A secondary Ancestry choice would be the Dwarf. You’d sacrifice an extra origin feat but gain more health and Darkvision. If you do, make sure you get the Wanderer background to unlock Savage Attacker Origin Feat as it’s important to maximizing melee damage.
Ancestry in Solasta 2 provides passive bonuses, traits, and sometimes unique movement or sensory advantages. Under the 2024 SRD, ability score increases are no longer locked to ancestry, making race selection more about utility, survivability, and synergy rather than raw stats.
Background
Wanderer is the best background for a Paladin build because it unlocks Savage Attacker Origin Feat and it allows you to increase Strength and Constitution. Below is what you unlock with the Wanderer background:
- Description: You were found by villagers and brought to the Colwall orphanage at a very young age.
- Improved Ability Score: STR, DEX, CON.
- Skills: Animal Handling, Survival.
- Recommended Personality: Outlaw
- Origin Feat: Savage Attacker – Once per turn when you hit with a weapon, you can reroll the damage dice and use the higher total.
- Mastered Tool: Herbalism Kit.
- Equipment: A Letter from Rickard.
An alternative background would be Lawkeeper, which also increases Strength and Constitution. However, it gives the Vigilant origin feat which is weaker. The reason you would select this background is for the “Ruler” recommended personality. That might fit your characters narrative better, without sacrificing a great deal of combat performance.
If you do deviate from our suggested background, it’s critical that you select Savage Attacker with your Human Versatile bonus.
Backgrounds in the Solasta II provide skill proficiencies, ability score improvements, and your Origin Feat. Rather than being purely narrative, backgrounds now play a direct role in mechanical identity. The three scores listed above indicate which ability scores can be improved. You can do one +1 and another +2.
Origin Feat
Savage Attacker is the best Origin Feat for this build because it allows you to troll a hit dice twice and take the best roll. This gives you great burst damage and keeps it consistent. While you have spellcasting, the bulk of your damage will come from melee attacks while spells complement your weakness like slower movement speed.
A secondary choice would be Robust, which gives you more health. You can get both using the Human ancestry and the Wanderer background giving you the best statistical advantage at level 1.
Origin Feats are a cornerstone of the 2024 ruleset and are granted through your background. These feats provide early mechanical identity and often influence how a build plays from level 1 onward.
Skills
Persuasion and Athletics are the best skills for the Oath of Judgement Paladin. Persuasion helps you influence dialogue while Athletics helps you in combat by resisting being shoved.
Skills determine your effectiveness outside of direct combat, including dialogue, exploration, and environmental interaction. Most builds should focus on a small number of key skills rather than spreading proficiency too thin.
Oath Of Judgement Paladin Ability Scores
| Ability | Score | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | 17 | Used for melee attacks and heavy armor. |
| Dexterity | 10 | Relying on heavy armor for AC and Alert for initiative. |
| Constitution | 16 | Needed for concentration and high survivability. |
| Intelligence | 8 | Dump Stat. |
| Wisdom | 10 | Dump Stat. |
| Charisma | 14 | Spell casting modifier. |
The most important ability score are Strength and Constitution. Strength helps with melee attacks and Constitution increase your HP and concentration saving throw chance. Charisma is lower on the list since most spell slots will go to Divine Smite rather than casting a specific spell for damage. Dexterity is left low since you will be using heavy armor and intelligence is your dump stat.
NOTE: We will be selecting Follow Up Strike as the feat at level 4. This will give you a +1 STR and land on an even number at max level of 4. Therefore, if it seems odd, that’s why we are aiming for that ability score at the start.
Another point to consider is Multiclassing which requires a certain stat threshold (13) to change into that class. Thus, if you wanted to go with three Rogue and one Fighter levels, you would need higher Strength. Since the game only goes to level 4, this is often a waste because your major power spikes typically come at level 4.
Stat Priority (Quick Reference)
- Strength – your main source of damage from weapon attacks while triggering Divine Smite.
- Constitution – helpful for raw HP but also holding concentration spells.
- Charisma – spellcasting modifier, though you’ll use most spell slots for Divine Smite.
- Everything else is non-essential
Ability scores in Solasta 2 determine nearly every core mechanic: attack accuracy, damage, spell effectiveness, defenses, and skill success. Under the 2024 ruleset, your primary stat directly fuels your class’s core actions, while secondary stats improve survivability and utility. Also, remember, Backgrounds now provide your Ability Score Increases (ASI). You no longer get them from your Ancestry (Race).
Weapon Mastery Selection

The Paladin picks two weapon Mastery at character creation. This determines small on hit bonuses your weapons produce. We recommend using two-handed weapons in this build, with a back bar ranged weapon. Here’s our suggestions:
- Greatsword (Graze): Can still do some damage even if you miss. The most consistent DPS two-handed weapon bonus.
- Longsword (Sap): imposes disadvantage debuff against an enemy. Great if you want to use one hand and shield with Longsword as more of a tank build.
- Maul (Topple): a secondary two-handed weapon choice with Topple. This can stun enemies if they fail a CON saving throw. Great if you want more crowd control.
- Longbow (Slow): lowers movement speed of enemy hit. Great starting to use at range when you cannot reach a target.
Weapon Mastery is a major addition in the 2024 ruleset, granting special effects tied to specific weapon types. These effects can add control, extra damage, or tactical advantages beyond basic attacks.
Oath Of Judgement Paladin Level Progression 1-4 (Early Access)
| Level | Choice |
|---|---|
| 1 | Spells: Divine Smite, Shield of Faith Weapon Mastery: Greatsword, Longsword |
| 2 | – |
| 3 | Subclass: Oath of Judgment Spell: Cure Wounds |
| 4 | Feat: Follow-up Strike |
This section explains what changes at each level and how your build’s role evolves as new features unlock.
- Level 1: Core class features (e.g., Rage, Spellcasting, Weapon Mastery).
- Level 2: Tactical upgrades (e.g., Cunning Action, Combat Styles).
- Level 3: Subclass Choice. This is where the build “comes online.”
- Level 4: General Feat. Choose a feat that grants +1 to your Primary Stat or Ability Score Improvement (ASI)
Level 1
At level one, your Paladin unlocks a bunch of features, including two spell selections. Here they are below:
- Paladin Healing Pool: you control a pool of healing power that replenishes when you finish a long rest. With that pool, you can restore a total number of hit point equal to 5x your paladin level.
- Lay on Hands: heal lost HP using your healing pool.
- Neutralize Poison: removes one poisoned status from the target using 5 points from healing pool.
- Divine Smite: level 1 spell, 5 feet distance, makes melee attack add 2d8 radiant damage using a bonus action. This spell essentially adds damage to a melee attack by consuming a level 1 spell slot and a bonus action.
- Shield of Faith: grants +2 AC to target, requiring concentration and a level 1 spell slot. Since this spells bonus last 10 minutes, you can pre-cast on yourself or an ally who needs survivability prior to combat. Just remember you can only maintain concentration on one spell at a time.
Level 2
You should get to pick another spell at this point, but it’s not as important as the next two levels.
Level 3
At level 3, you can select your subclass Oath of Judgement. You’ll unlock a specific channel divinity resource, abilities, and always prepared spells. Here’s what’s unlocked:
- Always Prepared Spells: Guiding Bolt, Inflict Wounds
New Spells
Inflict Wounds: Deals 2d10 necrotic damage, half on constitution save. Strong melee based damage if they are vulnerable to necrotic.
Guiding Bolt (Magic Initiate Cleric): 120 ft range, 4d6 radiant damage that grants advantage on the next attack roll made against target. This is the highest damage spell in the early game and it provides advantage, making it literally the best ranged DPS spell regardless of class.
Level 4
At level four, you gain access to a feat. If you kept Strength at 17 during character creation, then we recommend Follow-up Strike feat:
Follow-up Strike: increase your strength by +1. Quick Strike – when you take the action attack with a two-handed melee weapon, you can use a bonus action to perform a quick follow-up melee attack, dealing an additional 1d4 + strength modifier damage of the same type.
This gives you increased action economy, allowing you to expend a bonus action to attack with a two-handed weapon. That’s a huge amount of damage once your Divine Smites have been extinguished, which will be early with limited spell slots.
Oath Of Judgement Paladin Future Scaling & Level 5–10 Roadmap
Below is a sample of what you can expect as the Oath of Judgement Paladin reaches higher levels:
- Level 5: Extra Attack. You now have two chances to land Weight of Justice or a Divine Smite per turn.
- Level 6: Aura of Protection. You and nearby allies add your Charisma modifier to all saving throws.
- Level 7: Aura of Righteousness. Allies within 10 feet deal extra radiant damage on their attacks.
- Level 9: Judgment Day. Gain the ability to unleash a burst of energy that damages and pushes back all enemies within a short radius.
- Level 10: Max level for Solatsa 2.
Oath Of Judgement Paladin Multiclass Options & Synergies

While multiclassing is possible in EA of Solasta 2, you shouldn’t do this with the Paladin. You need every spell slot avalible, plus a feat to make your melee attacks hit harder. As the game develops and level caps are increased, it’s a possibility to dip into Warlock or Sorcerer but not in the early part of the game.
In Solasta 2, you can multiclass your builds. Multiclassing requires a 13 in the primary stat of both classes. Because subclasses start at Level 3, “dipping” is less common for subclass features but remains strong for Level 1 proficiencies or Weapon Masteries.
Combat Tactics & Playstyle
This section is a work in progress and will be updated once gameplay and testing begin.

Best Party Composition & Companion Synergy
In Solasta 2, your party consist of four pre-made characters. The best party to complement your Paladin is the following:
- Spellcaster DPS: Select the School of Ruin Wizard for a high DPS AOE spellcaster that uses intelligence ability score. This will round out your parties skills and help with ability checks.
- Support: The Life Cleric is your choice here for healing with good action economy. Plus Guiding Bolt gives them great damage early.
- Utility: The Scavenger Rogue is the simplest and effective way to play the Rogue and helps do high DEX task like sneak, stealth, picklocks, and detect traps.
Ideally, you don’t want another melee DPS Fighter or tank with your team. If you do, sacrifice the support Cleric and use a Paladin who can off-heal, but not to the same degree as a Cleric.
