Why This Build Works in Early Access

The core premise behind the Warlock build in Solasta 2 is the Hex and Eldritch Blast cantrip. This is your one-two punch that delivers high, consistent damage, especially once you advance in levels. What makes it powerful is that, at early levels, you only need one spell slot (Hex initial cast). From here, you can rotate the Hex spell, which adds extra damage and debuffs the target. Eldritch Blast is a cantrip, so rinse and repeat blasting targets at range.
The subclass’s strength is gaining an extra Eldritch Invocation, which adds power starting at level 3. Players who want a simple and versatile spellcaster should take this Warlock class. At level 3, the Dreamer subclass gives you the best options for power with the Mind Spike spell and an extra Invocation.

Class
The Warlock class uses Charisma as its ability score modifier, unlocks Pact Magic, and Eldritch Invocations. Pact Magic allows you to restore spell slots on a short rest. Eldritch Invocations are additional selections that complement your playstyle. Such as enhancing the Eldritch Blast cantrip and many more choices.
Saving Throws
Wisdom and Charisma are your saving throws for the Warlock.
Armor & Weapon Proficiencies
The Warlock unlocks light armor and simple weapons. Ideally, you want to use light armor or clothing with Mage Armor. One of the Eldritch Invocations grants you Mage Armor without using a spell slot. Use this if you intend to be a pure spellcaster and not wear light armor.
Subclass

This build uses the Dreamer subclass with the following features unlocked at level 3:
- Always prepared spells: Color Spray, Sleep, Hold Person, and Calm Emotions.
- Dream of Tomorrow Fiendish Vigor: You gain an additional invocation. Additionally, when you take a long rest, you can replace a spell of level one or higher on the list with another Warlock spell of an eligible level.
- Fiendish Vigor: You can cast False Life without expending a spell slot. When you cast that spell, you don’t roll for temporary hit points; you automatically get the highest number of the die.
- 1x Invocation (take Agonizing Blast for extra damage)
- Spell Mind Spike: level two spell dealing 3d8 Psychic damage up to 120 feet.
The Dreamer subclass is unique to Solasta II and is not in the DnD 2024 subclass list. All subclasses in Solasta II are unlocked at level 3, standardizing early progression across classes. Subclass features typically define your combat role, resource usage, and additional effects, actions, or spells.
Best Ancestry (Race / Species)

The Human is the best Ancestry for this Dreamer Warlock build because it grants another origin feat, more skills, and a new ability, Heroic Inspiration. The Human Ancestry unlocks the following:
- Versatile (Extra Feat): Take Magic Initiative Cleric, which seems like an odd choice. However, your Cleric spells will use Charisma as their modifier, and you’ll gain access to the best Early Access DPS spell, Guiding Bolt.
- Resourceful (Heroic Inspiration): You gain Heroic Inspiration every time you finish a Long Rest. This allows you to reroll any die (Attack, Save, or Check).
- Versatile: You gain proficiency in one extra skill of your choice (Athletics for exploring).
Having Guiding Bolt can change combat for you, with the potential to one-shot most enemies. This is the best choice for a spellcaster. High Elf (Sylvan Elf) is a good choice if you need extra mobility.
Ancestry in Solasta 2 provides passive bonuses, traits, and sometimes unique movement or sensory advantages. Under the 2024 SRD, ability score increases are no longer locked to ancestry, making race selection more about utility, survivability, and synergy rather than raw stats.
Background

Occultist is the best background for the Dreamer Warlock build due to its Origin Feat and ability score improvement stats. Here’s what you unlock with the Occultist:
- Description: During your time at the orphanage, you were always attracted to hidden and forbidden knowledge.
- Improved Ability Score: DEX, CON, CHA.
- Skills: Medicine, Deception
- Recommended Personality: Sage
- Origin Feat: Magic Initiate (Wizard) – Grants 2 Cantrips and one 1st-level Wizard spell (Shield or Magic Missile recommended).
- Mastered Tool: Scroll Kit
- Equipment: Something You Scribbled in Your Notebook in Haste, Wand
The Warlock class wants the Occultist background because of its origin feat and ability score improvement. You can increase Dexterity, Constitution, and Charisma. Therefore, you can reach 16 AC with Light Armor and 16 Dexterity.
An additional benefit of the Occultist is the Magic Initiative Wizard origin feat, which grants one level 1 spell and two cantrips. These spells from the Wizard kit scale in effectiveness off your charisma too, so don’t worry about them being weak. The best spell for survival is Shield, which uses a reaction to grant 5 AC when you’re about to be hit by an enemy. With 16 AC and Shield trigger, you’re nearly impossible to hit.
Backgrounds in the Solasta II provide skill proficiencies, ability score improvements, and your Origin Feat. Rather than being purely narrative, backgrounds now play a direct role in mechanical identity. The three scores listed above indicate which ability scores can be improved. You can do one +1 and another +2.
Origin Feat
Magic Initiative Cleric is the best Origin Feat for the Dreamer Warlock build because of the Guiding Bolt spell. 4d6 Radiant damage is by far the highest burst DPS spell in Early Access. Plus, the spell scales in effectiveness off of your Charisma, so you only need to stack one ability, not multiple. Magic Initiative Wizard is also effective for gaining more cantrips and spells, and with the Human Ancestry, you can get both at level 1.
Origin Feats are a cornerstone of the 2024 ruleset and are granted through your background. These feats provide early mechanical identity and often influence how a build plays from level 1 onward.
Skills
Persuasion and Intimidation are the best skills for the Dreamer Warlock build because they scale off of Charisma and influence dialogue options. Below are the suggested skills to take based on the build:
- Persuasion (Charisma): As a high-Charisma Warlock, you use this to negotiate better rewards from factions or avoid unnecessary combat in dialogue.
- Intimidation (Charisma): Since your Charisma is 16, this is your backup social tool. If you can’t persuade someone to help, you can force them to get what you need.
- Performance (Charisma): Another social tool used to pass Charisma speech checks with performances.
Skills determine your effectiveness outside of direct combat, including dialogue, exploration, and environmental interaction. Most builds should focus on a small number of key skills rather than spreading proficiency too thin.
Ability Scores
Charisma is your most important ability score (stat) for the Dreamer Warlock because it determines your spellcasting modifier and saving throws. Dexterity is the second most important because it increases your Armor Class (AC) and complements Light Armor or Mage Armor. Plus, with one feat at level 4, you can land on 18 Charisma and 16 Dexterity, radically increasing your damage and survivability.

Below are the values you should select during character Creation:
| Score | Value | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| STR | 8 | Your dump stat. |
| DEX | 15 | Essential for AC. When combined with Light Armor, you hit 16 AC without a shield. |
| CON | 14 | Provides a solid buffer for HP and ensures a +2 to Concentration checks. |
| INT | 8 | Helps with checks, which are frequent in Solasta’s lore-heavy world. |
| WIS | 10 | Keeps your Perception neutral so you aren’t surprised by monsters. |
| CHA | 17 | Primary Stat for spells. |
Also consider leaving two stats on odd numbers so you can increase them to even at level 4 with the Ability Score Improvement feat. This will make you weaker initially, as odd numbers don’t give a bonus, but dramatically more powerful at level 4 and for the rest of Early Access.
Another point to consider is multiclassing, which requires a certain stat threshold (13) to change into that class. Since the game only goes to level 4, this is often a waste because your major power spikes typically come at level 4.
Stat Priority (Quick Reference)
- Charisma – Your spellcasting modifier and helpful in dialogue
- Dexterity – Accuracy, damage, AC, initiative
- Constitution – Survival and consistency
- Everything else is non-essential
Ability scores in Solasta 2 determine nearly every core mechanic: attack accuracy, damage, spell effectiveness, defenses, and skill success. Under the 2024 ruleset, your primary stat directly fuels your class’s core actions, while secondary stats improve survivability and utility. Also, remember, Backgrounds now provide your Ability Score Increases (ASI). You no longer get them from your Ancestry (Race).
Level Progression 1-4 (Early Access)
| Level | Choice |
|---|---|
| 1 | Ancestry: Human (critical) Extra Origin Feat: Cleric Background: Occultist Pact: Tome Cantrips: Eldritch Blast, True Strike (Warlock), Fire Bolt, Light (Wizard), Divine Shield, Guidance (Cleric), Sorcerous Burst, Ray of Frost, Spare the Dying (Pact of the Tome) Spells: Hex, Hellish Rebuke (Warlock), Guiding Bolt (Cleric), Shield (Wizard), Divine Smite, Magic Missile (Pact of the Tome Invocation) Eldritch Invocation: Agonizing Blast |
| 2 | Eldritch Invocation: Repelling Blast |
| 3 | Subclass Dreamer Spells: Hideous Laughter |
| 4 | Feat: Ability Score Improvement +1 CHA, +1 DEX Spell: Expeditious Retreat |
This section explains what changes at each level and how your build’s role evolves as new features unlock.
- Level 1: Core class features (e.g., Rage, Spellcasting, Weapon Mastery).
- Level 2: Tactical upgrades (e.g., Cunning Action, Combat Styles).
- Level 3: Subclass Choice. This is where the build “comes online.”
- Level 4: General Feat. Choose a feat that grants +1 to your Primary Stat or Ability Score Improvement (ASI)
Future Scaling & Level 5–10 Roadmap
While Early Access may cap progression, strong builds are planned with future scaling in mind. Level 5 is a major breakpoint in the 2024 ruleset, often granting:
- Extra attacks
- Higher-level spells
- Stronger subclass features
This roadmap outlines how the build transitions from early stability into mid-game power.
- Level 5: Unlock level 3 spells, which grant a huge boost in power.
- Level 6: Subclass feature: bonus action transformation.
- Level 8: Second General Feat (aim to max your Primary Stat to 20).
- Level 10: Max level for Solatsa 2.
Multiclass Options & Synergies
During the Early Access initial phase, you only have four levels and six classes to choose from. Therefore, you should stick with the Warlock for all four levels. You wouldn’t gain much from even a level 1 dip into any other class and sacrifice a feat, which is vital to overall combat power early in the game.
In Solasta 2, you can multiclass your builds. Multiclassing requires a 13 in the primary stat of both classes. Because subclasses start at Level 3, “dipping” is less common for subclass features but remains strong for Level 1 proficiencies or Weapon Masteries.
Best Spells & Cantrips (Levels 1–4)
- Hex: use with bonus action to trigger extra damage and debuff their stats.
- Eldritch Blast: main nuke cantrip that doesn’t cost a spell slot.
- Guiding Bolt: ranged nuke that gives advantage to next attacker.

Best Party Composition & Companion Synergy
In Solasta 2, your party consists of four pre-made characters. The best party to complement your Warlock is the following:
- Support: The Life Cleric is your choice here for healing with good action economy. Plus, Guiding Bolt gives them great damage early.
- Utility: The Scavenger Rogue is the simplest and most effective way to play the Rogue, and the class helps perform high dexterity tasks like sneaking, stealth, picklocks, and detecting traps.
- Melee DPS: The Aether Warden as a two-handed greatsword build or a Paladin with Divine Smite burst are your best choices. Push this character in the thick of the fight to help get enemies’ attention so you can blast spells from afar.
Ideally, you don’t want to play another spellcaster like a Wizard, as it will be redundant. Use the intelligence-focused Shadowcaster Rogue and spec into more INT skills if you are lacking in skills.
