Welcome to our Solasta 2 Star Child Sorcerer build guide! This guide has been created for Early Access (EA), and will showcase every decision from character creation, spells, feats, ability score, species and more.

The Star Child Sorcerer build revolves around using metamagic to trigger an extra effect called Shooting Star. This gives extra force damage to your spells, and helps early level Sorcerers deal a bit of damage. As your character develops, at level 6 you gain Guiding Stars. This future helps the Sorcerer gain advantage on their next D20 roll and can be used several times per day.
Note: Some names and values reflect Solasta 2 Early Access conventions and 2024 SRD structure. Where Solasta 2 may later tweak values, the logic and priorities of the build remain valid. If you are familiar with Baldur’s Gate 3 combat, Solasta 2 will play similarly but differently with an updated rules (2024) system. Therefore, don’t expect an exact experience from that previous game.

Why Use The Star Child Sorcerer in Early Access
During the early levels, extra damage is hard to come by. This is where the Star Child build excels as a spell caster, using metamagic to trigger extra force damage. An early game combo is using Chromatic Orb with Twinned metamagic. This allows you to split a powerful single target skill into two, and also trigger the Shooting Star extra force damage bonus.
Another reason the Sorcerer excels is high Armor Class or (AC). With Mage Armor and 16 DEX, you’ll have 16 AC at the start. This makes you much harder to hit from melee or ranged attacks. Factor in the Lucky origin feat, and you have another tool to avoid incoming damage entirely. Plus, Metamagic with basic single target spells like Chromatic Orb (ICE) can knock multiple enemies prone while dealing great damage.

Class
The Sorcerer class unlocks innate magical powers and uses Charisma as their ability score for spellcasting.
Innate Sorcery (2024 Rule): As a Bonus Action, you can unleash innate magic for 1 minute, giving you Advantage on spell attack rolls and increasing your Spell Save DC by 1.
Saving Throws
Saving Throws: Constitution (essential for Concentration) and Charisma.
Armor & Weapon Proficiencies
The Sorcerer is proficient with the following simple weapons:
- Daggers
- Darts
- Slings
- Quarterstaffs
- Light Crossbows
The Sorcerer does not have any innate armor proficiency and wears clothing.
Subclass
This build uses the Star Child subclass with the following features:
- Shooting Stars (Level 3): When you use Metamagic you deal number of shotting stars equal to Sorcery points used, 1d4 +1 force damage.
- Prepared Spells (Level 3): Gain Bless, Magic Missile, Aid, and Scorching Ray as always prepared spells.
- Guiding Star (Level 6): You can call upon a Guiding Star several times per day to grant yourself Advantage on your next D20 roll.
The Star Child subclass is unique to Solasta II and is not in the DnD 2024 subclass list. This subclass was found in the first game and returns with updated archetype based on 2024 rules. All subclasses in Solasta II are unlocked at level 3, standardizing early progression across classes. Subclass features typically define your combat role, resource usage, and additional effects, actions, or spells.
Best Ancestry (Race / Species)
The Human is the best Ancestry for this Star Child Sorcerer build because it allows us to gain another origin feat, more skills, a new ability Heroic Inspiration. The Human Ancestry unlocks the following:
- Versatile (Extra Feat): Take Magic Initiative Cleric which seems like an odd choice. However, your Cleric spells will use Charisma as their modifier and you’ll gain access to the best Early Access DPS spell, Guiding Bolt.
- Resourceful (Heroic Inspiration): You gain Heroic Inspiration every time you finish a Long Rest. This allows you to reroll any die (Attack, Save, or Check).
- Versatile: You gain proficiency in one extra skill of your choice (Athletics for exploring).
While you can use any other race, having two Origin Feats with the Human ensures the best spellcasting possible. High Elf, Sylvan Elf are also good choices.
Ancestry in Solasta 2 provides passive bonuses, traits, and sometimes unique movement or sensory advantages. Under the 2024 SRD, ability score increases are no longer locked to ancestry, making race selection more about utility, survivability, and synergy rather than raw stats.
Background
Occultist is the best background for the Star Child Sorcerer due to its Origin Feat and ability score improvement stats. Here’s what you unlock with the Occultist:
- Description: During your time at the orphanage, you were always attracted to hidden and forbidden knowledge.
- Improved Ability Score: DEX, CON, CHA.
- Skills: Medicine, Deception
- Recommended Personality: Sage
- Origin Feat: Magic Initiate (Wizard) – Grants 2 Cantrips and one 1st-level Wizard spell (Shield or Sleep recommended).
- Mastered Tool: Scroll Kit
- Equipment: Something You Scribbled in Your Notebook in Haste, Wand
The Sorcerer class wants to select the Occultist background because of its’ origin feat and ability score improvement. You can increase Dexterity, Constitution, and Charisma, perfect if you intend to reach 16 AC with Mage Armor, clothing, and 16 Dexterity.
An additional benefit of the Occultist is the Magic Initiative Wizard origin feat which grants one level 1 spell and two cantrips. These spells from the Wizard kit scale in effectiveness off your charisma too, so don’t worry about them being weak. The best spell for survival is Shield, which uses a reaction to grant 5 AC when you’re about to be hit by an enemy. With 16 AC, and Shield trigger, you’re nearly impossible to hit.
Backgrounds in the Solasta II provide skill proficiencies, ability score improvements, and your Origin Feat. Rather than being purely narrative, backgrounds now play a direct role in mechanical identity. The three scores listed above indicate which ability scores can be improved. You can do one +1 and another +2.
Origin Feat
Magic Initiative Cleric is the best Origin Feat for the Star Child Sorcerer because of Guiding Bolt spell. 4d6 Radiant damage is by far the highest burst DPS spell in Early Access. Plus, the spell scales in effectiveness off of your Charisma, so you only need to stack one ability not multiple. Magic Initiative Wizard is also effective to gain more cantrips and spells, and with the Human Ancestry you can get both at level 1
Origin Feats are a cornerstone of the 2024 ruleset and are granted through your background. These feats provide early mechanical identity and often influence how a build plays from level 1 onward.
Skills
The Persuasion and Intimidation are the best best skills for the Star Child Sorcerer, and come from Charisma taken at character creation screen. Below are the suggested skills to take based on the build:
- Persuasion (Charisma): Your bread and butter. As a high-Charisma Sorcerer, you use this to negotiate better rewards from factions or avoid unnecessary combat in dialogue.
- Intimidation (Charisma): Since your Charisma is 16, this is your backup social tool. If you can’t persuade someone to help, you can force them to get what you need.
- Performance (Charisma): another social tool used to pass Charisma speech checks with performances.
Skills determine your effectiveness outside of direct combat, including dialogue, exploration, and environmental interaction. Most builds should focus on a small number of key skills rather than spreading proficiency too thin.
Ability Scores
Charisma and Dexterity are your two most important ability scores for a Star Child Sorcerer. Charisma is your spellcasting modifier, meaning your spells have a higher percentage chance to land and deal more damage the higher this value. Dexterity is helpful for higher AC while in clothing plus going sooner in combat order. Below are the values you should select during character Creation:
| Score | Value | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| STR | 8 | Your dump stat. |
| DEX | 15 | Essential for AC. When combined with Mage Armor, you hit 16 AC without a shield. |
| CON | 14 | Provides a solid buffer for HP and ensures a +2 to Concentration checks. |
| INT | 10 | Helps with checks, which are frequent in Solasta’s lore-heavy world. |
| WIS | 10 | Keeps your Perception neutral so you aren’t surprised by monsters. |
| CHA | 17 | Primary Stat for spells. |
Also consider leaving two stats on odd numbers so you can increase them to even at level 4 with ability score improvement feat. This will make you weaker initially as odd numbers don’t give a bonus, but dramatically more powerful at level 4 and for the rest of Early Access.
Another point to consider is Multiclassing which requires a certain stat threshold (13) to change into that class. Since the game only goes to level 4, this is often a waste because your major power spikes typically come at level 4.
Stat Priority (Quick Reference)
- Charisma – Your spell casting modifier and helpful in dialogue
- Dexterity – Accuracy, damage, AC, initiative
- Constitution – Survival and consistency
- Everything else is non-essential
Ability scores in Solasta 2 determine nearly every core mechanic: attack accuracy, damage, spell effectiveness, defenses, and skill success. Under the 2024 ruleset, your primary stat directly fuels your class’s core actions, while secondary stats improve survivability and utility. Also, remember, Backgrounds now provide your Ability Score Increases (ASI). You no longer get them from your Ancestry (Race).
Star Child Sorcerer Level Progression 1-4 (Early Access)
| Level | Choice |
|---|---|
| 1 | Ancestry: Human (critical) Extra Origin Feat: Cleric Background: Occultist Cantrips: True Strike, Sorcerous Burst, Light, Shadow Armor, Ray of Frost, Chill Touch, Spare the Dying, Resistance Spells: Mage Armor, Burning Hands, Shield, Guiding Bolt |
| 2 | Metamagic: Quickened, Empowered |
| 3 | Subclass Star Child Spells: Shatter, Hold Person |
| 4 | Feat: Ability Score Improvement +1 CHA, +1 DEX |
This section explains what changes at each level and how your build’s role evolves as new features unlock.
- Level 1: Core class features (e.g., Rage, Spellcasting, Weapon Mastery).
- Level 2: Tactical upgrades (e.g., Cunning Action, Combat Styles).
- Level 3: Subclass Choice. This is where the build “comes online.”
- Level 4: General Feat. Choose a feat that grants +1 to your Primary Stat or Ability Score Improvement (ASI)
Level 1
Innate Sorcery: advantage of your attack rolls or +1 to your spell saves DC for one minute. You can use this as a bonus action twice per long rest.
At level one, you unlock your spellcasting, picking two level 1 spells and two cantrips.
Cantrips
- True Strike: attack with your spells casting weapon using spellcasting ability for damage. On hit, deal damage type of your choice based on your weapon type. Amazing melee cantrip that has great burst damage when close to a target.
- Sorcerous Burst: 120 ft range, single target, on hit deal your choice of elemental damage. If you roll an 8 on a d8, you can roll another 8, and add it to the damage. The maximum number of d8 equals your spellcasting modifier. The absolute best ranged DPS cantrip in the game currently. No need to take Fire Bolt when you can select your element and do 2d16 on a perfect roll.
- Light: Create a light source on the target for one hour. This is a must have spell for Human ancestry since you do not possess Darkvision.
- Shadow Armor: Grants you 3 temporary hit points for 1 minute using an action. This is a decent buff in the early game when you have no other action to use and lack spellslots. You can also pre-cast this before combat for a small boost in your overall HP.
- Ray of Frost (Magic Initiate Wizard): On hit, deals 1d8 Cold damage and the target is hindered, until the start of your next turn. Speed is reduced by 10 feet (1/3), and it’s a great cantrip to prevent melee damage dealers from reaching you.
- Chill Touch (Magic Initiate Wizard): Deals 1d10 Necrotic damage and prevents them from regaining hit points until start of next turn. Mainly a niche cantrip against enemies that have massive self-healing.
- Spare the Dying (Magic Initiate Cleric): Stabilizes a target so they don’t permanently die. Great for using on companions to keep them from perma death.
- Resistance (Magic Initiate Cleric): the target will take 1d4 less damage from type of damage of your choice. Requires concentration and last 1 minute. This is a decent pre-buff if you don’t need to use concentration at the start of the fight and are up against a specific damage type heavy enemy.
Spells
- Mage Armor: Sets your Armor Class to 13 plus your Dexterity Modifier. At 16 Dexterity with Mage Armor, you’ll have much AC as Heavy! You must pre-cast this before combat and after every long rest which can be annoying to remember.
- Burning Hands: Deals 3d6 fire damage and half on a dexterity save. Can set enemy on fire. This is your in melee range damage spell. It solves a problem of the Rogue which is AOE and is perfect to shred multiple close range enemies.
- Shield (Magic Initiate Wizard): When you are hit by an attack, grants +5 Armor Class (AC) until the start of your next turn. You can use this as a reaction for one round. This spell is powerful boost to AC when you get attacked. Always save one spell slot in the tank so you can trigger this reaction to prevent being hit.
- Guiding Bolt (Magic Initiate Cleric): 120 ft range, 4d6 radiant damage that grants advantage on the next attack roll made against target. This is the highest damage spell in the early game and it provides advantage, making it literally the best ranged DPS spell regardless of class.
Level 2
At level two you get Metamagic and Font of Magic. Below are the recommended choices:
- Font of Magic: You can use Sorcery Points to make spells more powerful in various ways with Metamagic. You have 2 Sorcery Points and you gain more as you reach higher levels. You regain points on long rest, and also can convert spell slots to Sorcery Points, but you can never exceed your maximum Sorcery Points.
- Empowered Spell: Reroll all 1s and 2s for spells’ damage roll once, keeping the new result.
- Quickened Spell: Cast a spell requiring a main action with a bonus action instead. You can only expend one spell slot to cast a spell per turn.
A key note about Quickened is you cannot use 2x spells. Therefore, it’s typically best to use a spell and then a bonus action cantrip or vice versa. Usually Guiding Bolt and Sorcerous Burst is the go-to combo. Alternatively, you can use a melee attack with True Strike, and then Guiding Bolt with a spell.
Level 3
At level 3, select the Star Child subclass which unlocks bonuses and spells. Take Shatter and Hold Person spells to get area damage and a crowd control spell. Below are your unlocks and subclass bonuses:
- Shatter (spell selection): 60 ft range, level 2 spell with 10 ft radius, deals 3d8 Thunder damage, half on CON save. This is a good AOE damage tool that can hit multiple targets clumped together.
- Hold Person (spell selection): 1 enemy within 60 feet is held paralyzed and negated by a wisdom save. The target repeats this action and it requires you to maintain concentration. The benefit of this spell is single target crowd control, when you desperately need to isolate one target.
- Shooting Stars (Level 3): When you use Metamagic you deal number of shotting stars equal to Sorcery points used, 1d4 +1 force damage.
Prepared Spells (Level 3): Gain Bless, Magic Missile, Aid, and Scorching Ray as always prepared spells.
- Bless (subclass spell): select up to three different allies in 30 feet adding 1d4 to their attack rolls and saving throws. This spell requires concentration. This is the best buff spell because it affects nearly all aspects of combat and it can be applied to 3 different allies.
- Magic Missile (subclass spell): Creates 3 darts of magical force, each dealing 1d4+1 Force damage. You can upcast this level 1 spell for +1 dart per spell slot over level 1. Helpful because the spell has a 100% chance to hit, it can hit up to three enemies, and a huge 120 feet distance range. Use when you need a high percentage low damage hit on one or more targets.
- Scorching Ray (subclass spell): range 120 ft, 3 enemies, creates 3 rays of fire each dealing 2d6 fire damage. This acts as a better magic missile with lower percentage chance to hit, but much higher damage. You can use it single target or against three targets for multi-kills.
- Aid (subclass spell): increases affected target hit points. Useful spell to pre-buff and increase multiple targets HP when you know a tough fight is about to unfold.
Level 4
At level four, take an Ability Score Improvement +1 Charisma and +1 Dexterity. This brings your CHA to 18 (+4 modifier) and your DEX to 16 (+3). Dex of 16 and Mage Armor gives you 16 AC without a shield, making you super survivable especially with your shield.
Star Child Sorcerer Future Scaling & Level 5–10 Roadmap
This roadmap outlines how the build transitions from early stability into mid-game power.
- Level 5: You gain access to additional always prepared spells.
- Level 6: Guiding Star is unlocked where you can grant yourself Advantage on your next D20 roll.
- Level 8: Second General Feat (aim to max your Primary Stat to 20).
- Level 10: Max level for Solatsa 2.
Star Child Sorcerer Multiclass Options & Synergies

During Early Access initial phase, you only have four levels and six classes to choose from. Therefore, you should stick with the Sorcerer for all four levels. This would change, however, if the Hexblade Warlock were an option. As is, you wouldn’t gain much from even a level 1 dip into any other class and sacrific a feat which is vital to overall combat power early in the game.
In Solasta 2, you can multiclass your builds. Multiclassing requires a 13 in the primary stat of both classes. Because subclasses start at Level 3, “dipping” is less common for subclass features but remains strong for Level 1 proficiencies or Weapon Masteries.
Combat Tactics & Playstyle
This section is a work in progress and will be updated once gameplay and testing begin.

Best Party Composition & Companion Synergy
n Solasta 2, your party consist of four pre-made characters. The best party to complement your Sorcerer is the following:
- Support: The Life Cleric is your choice here for healing with good action economy. Plus Guiding Bolt gives them great damage early.
- Utility: The Scavenger Rogue is the simplest and effective way to play the Rogue and helps do high DEX task like sneak, stealth, picklocks, and detect traps.
- Melee DPS: The Aether Warden as two-handed greatsword build or a Paladin with Divine Smite burst are you best choices. Push this character in the thick of the fight to help get enemies attention so you can blast spells from afar.
Ideally, you don’t want to bring in another spellcaster like a Wizard as it will be redundant. Use the intelligence focused Shadowcaster Rogue and spec into more INT skills if you are lacking in skills.
