The Top 6 Best Builds in Solasta 2
Aether Warden Fighter and Star Child Sorcerer are the two best builds in Solasta 2. The Aether Warden has spellcasting, equipment options, and it retains all the strengths of the Fighter. It’s easy to play, highly survivable, and the only real downside is a lower Charisma ability score for influencing dialogue. Meanwhile, the Star Child Sorcerer is your versatile spellcaster, with Charisma helpful to fill that role as your main character range damage dealer.
Below we share are top 6 builds from best to worst:
- Aether Warden Fighter: Easy to play, equipment options, action surge, highly survivable.
- Mana Painter Sorcerer: Metamagic dominates, highest burst, charisma for dialogue.
- Life Domain Cleric: Best support build with built-in offensive gameplay.
- Dreamer Warlock: Simplest range DPS due to Hex + Eldritch Blast combo.
- Shadowcaster Rogue: Diverse Rogue who can spellcast and still fulfill the role of sneaking thief.
- School of Ruination Wizard: Massive AOE damage, diverse spellbook, intelligence skills.
6. School of Ruin Wizard

The School of Ruination Wizard build is your classic RPG glass-cannon DPS range spellcaster. You forgo subclass features that help with survivability, in exchange for two extra damage spells. Moreover, you second subclass features increase damage for each dice roll. This makes spells like Scorching Ray or Shatter extremely powerful starting at level 3.
Another reason to use the School of Ruination Wizard builds is for intelligence-based skills. Every class outside of Wizard, (with some subclass exceptions) uses different ability scores. Thus, having a diverse party with skills from the most important ability scores is your best bet for optimal dialogue and exploration.
Early on, this Wizard will need a couple of spells to stay alive, like Shield and Mage Armor. As you develop and increase your spellbook, you’ll gain more offensive-minded spells but rely heavily on cantrips to start. That’s because spell slots are so few early in Solasta 2 that you can run out in a few turns if not spending spells wisely. Plus, it’s more difficult to long rest than other games like BG3, so cantrips and their selection become critically important.
We rank the School of Ruination Wizard build fifth on this list because it’s a powerful spellcaster that also helps your party in exploration and dialogue. However, it’s not the most damage-producing spellcaster, nor the most survivable. Plus, having a Charisma-based spellcaster like the Sorcerer gives you even better dialogue options, making it better overall for combat and general questing.
Overall, the School of Ruination Wizard is a classic selection for Solasta 2 players who want to feel (and look) like Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. It’s powerful, fun, useful and a great selection to bring a spellcaster to your four-player party.
5. Shadowcaster Rogue

The lifeblood of exploration, utility, and sneak of any Solasta 2 party will start with a Rogue character. We believe the Shadowcaster Rogue is the best option and build because not only does it retain the Rogue / Stealthy identity, but it also gains spellcasting. Spellcasting is extremely helpful with a class that’s typically geared towards melee damage with daggers.
Moreover, your spells and cantrips can gain Sneak Attack bonuses, giving you even more power using the Advantage bonus. The simplest way to do this is move a melee character like a Fighter near a target, or attack from stealth. Sneak Attack will trigger, adding extra damage passively, though it requires careful positioning and takes some time to get used to.
Rogues use Dexterity as their main ability score which is helpful for skill proficiency in stealth, sleight of hand, and acrobatics. It’s almost mandatory to have one party member who can sneak, open lockpicks, and steal. Since early access doesn’t feature the Ranger class at launch, this is by far your best bet.
The downside to the Rogue and in particular the Shadowcaster, is lack of burst. The other subclass, Scavenger, gets an extra bonus to weapon attacks each turn. This can be helpful if you favor all-out burst vs. utility. However, the lack of range weapon options and ranged damage in general is an issue at the start of Solasta 2. Having a ranged cantrip that can increase damage passively via Sneak Attack fills this hole in your build. Plus, if you’ve ever blown up a barrel with Fire Bolt, you know how clutch a simple cantrip can be.
We rank the Shadowcaster Rogue as the fourth-best build in Solasta 2 mainly for it’s utility outside of combat, plus they provide consistent damage early. However, Rogues can be frustrating to use if you do not understand Sneak Attack and Advantage positioning strategies. Most likely you’re going to use a Rogue in your party, in this is the build you should pick.
4. Dreamer Warlock

The Dreamer Warlock is the ultimate simple ranged DPS spellcaster. It’s not going to hit huge numbers like the Sorc, or tank a group of mobs, but it will allow new DnD players to do a simple combo and feel effective. That’s the Hex (debuff) + Eldritch Blast (cantrip). It goes more powerful over time and doesn’t require constant spellslots to keep the power going. Moreover, it’s effective at very early levels when Solasta 2 can be the most difficult. Therefore, this is your best bet to play the Warlock and keep it simple and effective.

The core mechanics of Pact Magic mean your limited spell slots recover on a short rest and always cast at maximum strength, cutting down on resource-management headaches. When rounding out your roster with this build, the Dreamer subclass stands out as the premier choice:
Thanks to the Dream of Tomorrow feature, you gain a free, extra Eldritch Invocation. This allows you to stack essential passive upgrades like Agonizing Blast, Repelling Blast, and Armor of Shadows earlier and more efficiently without having to sacrifice utility. Combined with free temporary hit points via Fiendish Vigor and incredible crowd control spells like Sleep and Hold Person, the Dreamer gives your party incredible safety and consistent damage scaling off a single stat (Charisma).
The Warlock requires very little setup compared to micro-heavy classes. You drop a Hex with your bonus action, fire off Eldritch Blast, and let your invocations do the heavy lifting. They round out a team effortlessly by giving you a reliable Charisma face for dialogue, simple mechanics, and straightforward ranged firepower that complements any frontline bruiser.
3. Life Domain Cleric

Having a support build in your Solasta 2 party is critical for survival and overall gameplay. The Life Domain Cleric fulfills this role the best out of any build in Solasta 2, partly because of its unique spells and subclass features. One new subclass feature in 2024 allows the Cleric to heal for even more HP. Plus, your Channel Divinity resource to burst heal in a massive radius doesn’t consume a spell slot. Thus, you have multiple ways to heal each turn even when you run out of spell slots at early levels.
Clerics also have access to heavy armor proficiency at level 1, giving you great survivability at the outset of the game. In addition, you will gain always prepared spells that are geared towards support, allowing you to pick more offensive-minded spells at early levels. Cantrips like Guidance or spells like Bless help your party thrive inside and outside of combat. Guidance helps boost dialogue and exploration checks while Bless gives you +1d4 to attacks and saving throws. If that weren’t enough, a good old-fashioned Guiding Bolt from across the map can finish off targets at range.
The Cleric class uses Wisdom as your ability score modifier. This is helpful for skills, the two most important are Perception and Insight. These two pop up constantly while exploring, and having a high Wisdom character makes sure you pass these check which lead to tons of questing options.
There are a couple of downsides to the heavy armored Life Domain Cleric. Mainly movement and initiative. With lower initiative due to low DEX score, you are likely to go near last in your turn order. Thus, it opens you up for stuns and crowd control effects before you even take a turn. Second, you will have terrible movement speed. Spells like Longstrider or gear can help this, but it feels you’re always lagging behind, especially at the start of the game.
We rank the Life Domain Cleric as the third-best build in Solasta 2 due to its utility, survivability, and healing options. Having a support build makes life so much easier in Solasta 2, and the Life Cleric is what you should pick.
2. Mana Painter Sorcerer

The Mana Painter Sorcerer is the second-best build in Solasta 2 mainly because of Metamagic. This is a class feature that grants you Sorcery points. You can use these points to manipulate magic. Early on, this is extremely powerful with the Twinned Metamagic feature. It allows you to fork (double) a single target spell. Something like Chromatic Orb which is powerful in and of itself now doubles in damage. Not only that, but if you use the ice/frost version, you can stun targets at massive range.
The Mana Painter subclass in particular is helpful because of a subclass feature allowing you to melee attack a target and regain Sorcery points. This is a massive bonus because the resource is difficult to get back and it sustains you in longer fights. Thus, you can do a sustain spell (or cantrip) Metamagic loop, keeping your spellcasting DPS high. Plus, the Mana Painter uses the Charisma ability score modifier, perfect for a main protagonist who’s doing the talking as the group leader.
Since you’re going to be playing in melee range with the Mana Painter, the developers gave them Mana Shield at level 3. This grants temporary HP anytime you use a spell slot. You can combine high Dexterity in clothing with Mage Armor for super high AC at early levels. Spells like Shield or Shield of Faith can be combined to avoid nearly any attack. And if they do land one on you, the temporary HP can take the brunt of most of it.
The major downside to the Mana Painter build is complexity. Managing spell slots, Sorcery points, and picking when to move into melee range can be complicated. Sometimes you just want to use a melee build primarily to avoid spending tons of time Long Resting and debating using a spell slot in combat, or worse, missing an attack.
We rank the Mana Painter as the second-best build in Solasta 2 mainly for its combat performance, dialogue benefits with Charisma, and raw power. It’s held back by weaker survivability than the number one build and complexity. If you could regenerate spell slots instantly and infinitely, then we could move this to the number one position, but that’s not how Solasta 2 works.
1. Aether Warden Fighter

Simple, powerful, survivable, the Aether Warden Fighter is the best build in Solasta 2. Every level in the Fighter’s kit feels powerful, from Second Wind self-healing to Action Surge action boost, to your subclass giving you spell slots. Each level your power grows exponentially, and it’s easy to play for beginners, and yet hard to master for advanced DND and Solasta 2 folks.
The Aether Warden subclass in particular is chosen here because of its spellcasting. Not only that, but you use Constitution as your spellcasting modifier, not Intelligence. Meaning, you can stack CON and STR together and have high survivability, good melee damage, and powerful spellcasting. No other build in Solasta 2 has the trifecta of power mainly because of the ability score synergy.
Speaking of diversity, the equipment options are nearly endless with a Fighter. Marital Weapons and basically all armor allow you to play any style you want. Unorthodox range spellcaster? Sure. Tank with Sword and Board? Yep. Or meathead Greatsword Two-handed Strength build from BG3 metas. Yes, that too works. The Fighter is like going to a DnD buffet of gear choices and not limiting you to a specific role or style.
The major downside of the build is weak skill selections. Since your two highest ability scores are CON and STR, you won’t get juicy exploration skills like Stealth, Intimidation, or Perception. This can be remedied by your party choices, race, origin trait, and gear.
Another weakness is lower movement and initiative, the same issue the Cleric faces. With heavy armor and 10 DEX, you’ll be going near the last in turn order and it can be frustrating. The lack of mobility can be made up for by spellcasting giving you some good range options or utility spells per turn.
We rank the Aether Warden Fighter as the best build in Solasta 2 because of its tri-unity in power: survivability, versatility, ease of play. Anyone can pick up this build and succeed, have fun, and enjoy everything Solasta 2 has to offer, which is why we think you should pick it.
Solasta 2 Builds Overview
What makes a build good or bad depends on many factors. Combat power, influence quest dialogue, ease of play, and fun factor are just a few variables. Overall, we aim to give you some insights into each build, so you can reasonably know what’s the best choice for your playstyle. Keep in mind, Solasta 2 plays similarly yet different from Baldur’s Gate 3. The ruleset changed the game dramatically, such as Paladins Divine Smite now using a bonus action rather than a passive feature. Thus, if you’re unfamiliar with the ruleset, we will do our best at explaining the differences. Below are some important notes about Solasta 2 during the initial launch of Early Access:
- Party size (4 characters)
- Early Access level cap (1–4)
- Multiclassing confirmed
- Based on SRD 5e ruleset 2024 (different than BG3)
- Full release expected to reach level 10
- Subclasses unlocked at level 3 across all classes
- Ancestry vs. Origin: The 2024 rules shifted Ability Score bonuses from “Race” to “Background.”
- Origin Feat: You now gain a feat based on your Background selection (character creation)
- Ability Score: Ability Score increases +1 and +2 come from your Background not Ancestry (species formerly race).
- Weapon Mastery: a new mechanic for martial builds
