In Hogwarts Legacy, Alohomora, otherwise known as the Unlocking Charm is a critical spell in opening up new areas of the game and finding even better loot! Using Alohomora, players can gain access to previously locked areas and chests, though they will need to complete an Unlocking Minigame before successfully opening a lock.

How to “unlock” the Alohomora spell
Players can unlock the spell Alohomora by initiating the Main Story quest “The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament.” In this main story mission, players must assist Hogwart’s caretaker Gladwin Moon who is currently being tormented by Demiguise statues placed around Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. To assist you with completing the quest, Moon will teach you Alohomora which will help you gain access to some of the protected areas needed to complete this quest.
How to use Alohomora, the Unlocking Charm
Alohomora is a Utility Spell in Hogwarts Legacy, which means it is not bound to a specific slot on your Spell Diamond, but instead can be used situationally, specifically when approaching a locked door or chest. To begin, simply press the Interact button, which then will open up the Unlocking Minigame.
In the unlocking game, players take control of two magical sparks, one red and one green. Each spark when moved will rotate a circular section of the lock. When the correct position is found for the green spark, the cog outside the lock will begin moving. This means you’ve found the correct green spark location – hold this!
When the correct position is found for the red spark, the cogs inside the wheel itself will also begin turning. Holding this position as well as the green spark position will open the lock.
