The Free Lanes update adds a brand new player home to Starfield called the Château des Étoiles, a sprawling luxury residence built inside a hollowed-out asteroid. It is the most extravagant home in the game by far, with multiple floors of beautifully designed rooms, stunning views of space, and a price tag to match.
This guide covers exactly how to unlock the Château des Étoiles, where to find the purchase prompt, where the home is located, total cost, and what you can expect once you are inside.
Starfield Asteroid Mansion Quick Summary
The Château des Étoiles costs 5 million credits and is unlocked by reading a terminal in Rishi Saint’s private quarters aboard Anchorpoint Station in the Algorab system. The home itself is located in the Ophion system, orbiting Ophion I.
How to Unlock the Château des Étoiles
Unlocking the Château des Étoiles requires visiting Anchorpoint Station, a new star station added in the Free Lanes update. The station is located in the Algorab system and serves as the main hub for much of the new Free Lanes content, with vendors, side quests, and several NPCs worth talking to.
Once on board, explore the station rooms and take on the available quests. The key location is toward the back of the station, where you will find the private quarters of Rishi Saint, the leader of Anchorpoint Station.

Rishi Saint’s Quarters and the Secret Wall
Rishi Saint’s room is notably more luxurious compared to the rest of the station and is worth exploring thoroughly before moving on. For example, his quarters contains a hidden wall that players can open to find a cache of weapons and gear. It is easy to miss on a first visit so take a moment to examine the walls carefully when you arrive.
More importantly, the room contains Rishi’s personal computer terminal. Reading through it reveals a message titled “A Luxury Home Among the Stars.” The full text of the listing reads:
“We hope you enjoyed your tour of the Chateau des Etoiles. We think you’ll agree that there’s no home in the Settled Systems that combines spacious and luxurious interiors with breathtaking views in a truly singular location. While the property is still available, time is running out on this one-of-a-kind opportunity, so don’t delay! Simply respond below to transmit the credits.”

Selecting the option to respond will attempt to deduct 5 million credits from your inventory. If you have enough, the purchase goes through immediately and a new mission activity is added to help you locate the home.
Note: Make sure you have 5 million credits on hand before reading the terminal if you want to buy immediately. There is no installment plan or credit option. If you don’t have the credits on hand at the moment you can always come back later.
Where Is the Château des Étoiles Located?
After purchasing the home, the new mission activity will mark the location for you. The Château des Étoiles is found in the Ophion system, orbiting the planet Ophion I. Travel to the system and follow the mission marker to dock with your new home.

What Is Inside the Château des Étoiles?
The Château des Étoiles is built across multiple floors connected to a main entrance level docked to your ship. Here is a breakdown of what you will find inside:
The entrance floor is the largest and connects directly to the docking port, serving as the main arrival and living space. Three additional floors branch off from this level, each containing a variety of rooms designed around different functions and aesthetics.
Across these floors you will find:
- Bedrooms with high-end furnishings
- Garden seating areas with working waterfalls
- Fully fitted bathrooms, kitchens, & guest rooms
- A game room and gym
- Office space

The home is entirely pre-furnished and decorated in a consistent luxury style throughout. It comes with a small number of notable items, including a few helmets and a Neon Club Life Skirt, though the home itself rather than its loot is the main draw here.
Pro Tip: The Château des Étoiles is fully customizable as a player home. Use the outpost building system to rearrange the interior and add your own furniture, workbenches, displays for your Colony War Action Heroes collection, and any other items you want to personalize the space.

Is the Asteroid Mansion Worth 5 Million Credits?
Five million credits is a significant sum that takes meaningful time to build in Starfield, so the honest answer depends on what you want from a player home.
As a functional base, the Château des Étoiles offers plenty of space for multiple workbenches, ample storage, and a massive layout that makes it genuinely practical as a main hub for late-game play. Its location in the Ophion system is a bit out of the way compared to New Atlantis, but the Cruise Mode and grav jump system makes reaching it straightforward from anywhere in the galaxy.
As a prestige purchase and roleplay destination, nothing matches the Asteroid Mansion in Starfield. Nothing else in the game even comes close to the scale or visual quality of this home. If you have 5 million credits sitting around and want somewhere truly impressive to come back to between sessions, the Château des Étoiles delivers exactly what it promises.
The Final Word
The Château des Étoiles is the most ambitious player home Bethesda has put into a Starfield update, and it is genuinely impressive once you are inside. The unlock path through Anchorpoint Station ties it neatly into the new Free Lanes content, and Rishi Saint’s quarters make for a memorable discovery moment even before you have the credits to buy.
Start saving early, explore Anchorpoint thoroughly when you first arrive, and do not miss the secret wall in Rishi’s room before you leave. The 5 million credit price is steep but the home earns it.
Château des Étoiles FAQ
1. Do you need the Terran Armada DLC to access the Château des Étoiles?
No. The Château des Étoiles and Anchorpoint Station are both part of the free Free Lanes update and are available to all Starfield players regardless of whether you own the Terran Armada DLC.
2. What is the fastest way to earn 5 million credits in Starfield?
The most reliable methods are running Terran Armada Incursion events for high-value loot to sell, farming contraband runs with a high Deception skill, and repeatedly clearing ship graveyards and selling commandeered vessels. A combination of all three is the fastest path to 5 million credits. We will have a full credits farming guide linked above.
3. Can you customize the interior of the Château des Étoiles?
Yes. Like other player homes in Starfield, the Château des Étoiles supports the outpost building system, which lets you add, move, and remove furniture and decorations. The home arrives fully furnished, but you can rearrange it however you like.
4. Is there a way to visit the Château des Étoiles before buying it?
No, based on the listing message on Rishi’s terminal, the wording suggests a prior tour was possible, but in practice the purchase prompt comes directly from reading the terminal in Rishi’s quarters. There does not appear to be a separate free preview option. Reading the terminal is the unlock trigger.
5. What happens if you do not have enough credits when you respond to the listing?
If you do not have 5 million credits in your inventory when you choose to respond to the listing on Rishi’s terminal, the transaction will not go through. The mission activity will not be added. You can return to the terminal later once you have accumulated enough credits to complete the purchase.
6. Where is Anchorpoint Station?
Anchorpoint Station is located in the Algorab system. Open your star map and navigate to Algorab, then look for the station as a point of interest. It is the main new hub location added in the Free Lanes update and is worth exploring fully for quests, vendors, and the Château des Étoiles listing.
