Starfield Moon Jumper Overview
The Moon Jumper is the second land vehicle added to Starfield and the most capable one yet. Where the REV-8 was built for covering flat ground quickly, the Moon Jumper is built for verticality. It can launch you across craters, scale cliffs, and reach elevated locations that would otherwise take several minutes of on-foot climbing to access.
Unlike the REV-8, which you can purchase directly from a ship services technician once vehicles are unlocked, the Moon Jumper cannot be bought from a vendor. You have to find it out in the world. This guide covers exactly what the Moon Jumper can do, where to look for it, and how to access it once you have it.
Quick Summary: The Moon Jumper is found as a random POI in the Free Lanes update, not purchased from a vendor. We found it on Algorab III-b near a defunct broadcasting station, but you can literally find it anywhere. Once collected, it becomes your default vehicle and replaces the REV-8 as your active ground vehicle.

Starfield Moon Jumper Vehicle Benefits
The Moon Jumper is a bigger and more advanced land vehicle than the REV-8 in almost every way that matters for planetary exploration. Here is what sets it apart.
- Larger tires and better terrain handling – The Moon Jumper’s larger tires handle rocks, uneven surfaces, and rough terrain much more easily than the REV-8. Where the REV-8 can get caught on terrain features quite easily and quickly lose momentum over rocky ground, the Moon Jumper rolls over them with considerably less disruption.
- Powerful boost jump capability – The defining feature of the Moon Jumper is its vertical boost system. When you activate the boost, the vehicle launches you into the air, letting you clear ridgelines, hop across craters, and reach elevated points on a planet’s surface that you could not reach in the REV-8 at all. On low-gravity planets and moons, the jumps become even more dramatic, effectively giving you short bursts of near-flight.
- Tight steering – Despite its larger size, the Moon Jumper has responsive handling and a tight turn radius, making it easy to maneuver around obstacles and change direction quickly without losing control.
- Weapons – The Moon Jumper comes equipped with missile launchers, giving you offensive capability during surface combat encounters that the REV-8 could not match.
For any exploration that involves rocky terrain, elevated objectives, or surface combat, the Moon Jumper is the better vehicle. The REV-8 remains functional for flat open terrain where you just need to cover ground quickly, but for the majority of planetary exploration in Starfield, the Moon Jumper is the upgrade.

Starfield Moon Jumper Location
The Moon Jumper is tied to random points of interest added in the Free Lanes update. It cannot be purchased from a ship services technician or any vendor. You need to find it through exploration.
We found the Moon Jumper while exploring planets in the Algorab system, which is also home to Anchorpoint Station, the new star station added in the Free Lanes update. Specifically, it was found on Algorab III-b during a bounty hunting mission. While exploring the planet’s surface, we came across a defunct broadcasting station, which appeared to be a random POI. The Moon Jumper was parked just outside.
The enemies inside the location do not need to be cleared before you can take the vehicle. In our playthrough, we walked straight up to the Moon Jumper and took it without engaging anyone inside the broadcasting station at all.
Note: Because the Moon Jumper is tied to random points of interest rather than a fixed location, your specific encounter may appear on a different planet or in a different context. The Algorab system is worth prioritizing as a starting point since you will likely be visiting it for Anchorpoint Station and the Free Lanes side quests anyway, but keep exploring if it does not appear on the first planet you land on.
What Happens After You Find It
Once you take the Moon Jumper, it becomes your default vehicle automatically. If you already have the REV-8 unlocked, the Moon Jumper replaces it as your active ground vehicle when exiting your spaceship.
A new mission activity is added to your log to reflect the pickup. Both the Moon Jumper and the REV-8 remain in your vehicle inventory, so you do not permanently lose access to the REV-8. You can switch between them as needed.

How to Access Your Vehicles If You Are New to the System
If you have not used vehicles in Starfield before, the process is slightly different from simply finding the Moon Jumper and driving off. Vehicles in Starfield are tied to ship services technicians rather than being automatically available.
To access your vehicle for the first time, find a ship services technician at any major landing pad, including the one at the spaceport in New Atlantis. Speak with them and ask to purchase a vehicle. This will give you access to the REV-8 and any other vehicles you already own, including the Moon Jumper once you have found it.
After that initial step, summoning your vehicle on any planet is as simple as pressing the relevant button prompt from the surface.

Tips for Using the Moon Jumper Effectively
A few things worth knowing once you have the Moon Jumper in your hands.
- Use the boost jump to gain height first, then boost horizontally to clear a gap or ridgeline. Trying to boost horizontally from flat ground without gaining height first limits how far you can travel in a single burst.
- On low-gravity planets and moons, boost jumps carry significantly further and higher than on standard-gravity worlds. The Moon Jumper genuinely approaches a form of short-range flight in these environments, which makes it one of the best tools for surveying and exploration on moons.
- Keep the REV-8 as a secondary option for large flat areas where you just want to cover ground efficiently. The Moon Jumper’s boost capability is its strength, but on genuinely flat terrain the REV-8 covers straight-line distance quickly without requiring boost management.
- Use the missiles for surface combat encounters, particularly against enemies with cover. The Moon Jumper’s combat capability makes clearing hostile POIs considerably faster than on foot, especially if you can boost to a position with a clear line of sight before engaging.
Pro Tip: The Astrophysics skill improves your ability to identify surface POIs from orbit, which makes hunting for the Moon Jumper’s broadcasting station POI faster. If you are struggling to locate it, invest a point in Astrophysics and scan planets thoroughly from orbit before landing.
The Final Word
The Moon Jumper is a great upgrade over the REV-8 for anyone who spends significant time on planetary surfaces. The boost jump fundamentally changes how you navigate terrain, turning climbs that previously required backtracking or on-foot scrambling into quick vertical launches that take seconds.
Head to the Algorab system or any system really, explore the random POIs, and keep trying until you find one featuring the new Moon Jumper Vehicle. It’s well worth the time invested for such a great vehicle upgrade.
Starfield Moon Jumper FAQ
1. Can you buy the Moon Jumper from a vendor?
No. The Moon Jumper is found through exploration at a random point of interest, not purchased from a ship services technician or any other vendor. Bethesda has designed it as a discovery reward rather than a buyable vehicle. Keep exploring new surface POIs, especially in the Algorab system, and you will come across it.
2. Does the Moon Jumper replace the REV-8 permanently?
No. Taking the Moon Jumper makes it your active default vehicle, but the REV-8 remains in your vehicle inventory. You can switch between the two as needed through your vehicle access menu. Neither vehicle is permanently lost when you acquire the other.
3. Do you need to defeat enemies to take the Moon Jumper?
Not necessarily. In our playthrough, the Moon Jumper was parked outside the broadcasting station POI where we found it and could be taken without engaging any enemies inside. The vehicle itself is not locked behind clearing the location, though the enemies may still be present nearby.
4. Does the Moon Jumper work differently on low-gravity planets?
Yes, noticeably so. On low-gravity planets and moons, the boost jump carries significantly further and higher than on standard-gravity worlds. In these environments the Moon Jumper functions almost like a short-range flight vehicle, making it particularly useful for surveying moon surfaces and reaching elevated terrain that would be inaccessible on higher-gravity worlds.
5. Do you need the Terran Armada DLC to find the Moon Jumper?
No. The Moon Jumper is part of the free Free Lanes update and is available to all Starfield players. You do not need to own the Terran Armada DLC. The Algorab system where we found it is part of the base Free Lanes content, not the paid DLC.
