Star Wars Zero Company is a turn-based tactics game set in the final days of the Clone Wars. The protagonist, Hawks, leads a group of mercenaries through cinematic missions and manages a base of operations between fights. Developed by Bit Reactor and published by Electronic Arts, this is a gritty XCOM-meets-Star Wars game.
Your squad mixes custom recruits with authored story companions like Jae Mordant. Each companion is built the same way as any operator: a class (Specialization), a weapon, a fixed talent, a secondary class that unlocks later, and a Focus Tree path. Each story companion also has a signature ability that persists through any respec. For the wider roster, see the full characters and squad members guide.
Star Wars Zero Company Jae Mordant Build Summary
Jae Mordant is the squad’s dispossessed Ore-Baroness, with a random finisher that cleans up wounded enemies.

Jae Mordant was born into the ruthless noble House Mordant of Shu-Torun and built her own mining citadel on Luunata. She ruled as its Ore-Baroness until Fathom and the Infinite Coil took the planet. She was instrumental in convincing the Republic to hire Zero Company, and she will not rest until Luunata is hers again. Her class is not fixed, so she is one of your most flexible companions, defined less by a role than by her signature finisher. Here’s what you can expect from the Jae Build Guide:
| Field | Value |
| Species | Human (House Mordant of Shu-Torun) |
| Specialization/Class | Flexible (Gunslinger recommended) |
| Signature ability (Talent) | Final Shot (finishes enemies at 4 HP or less, once per turn) |
| Weapon | Blaster Pistol |
| Secondary Specialization | Scoundrel |
| Role | Flexible damage dealer with an automatic cleanup finisher |
| Tier (pre-launch estimate) | A: flexible DPS whose finisher adds free value |
Signature ability and class status

Jae’s unique talent is Final Shot: once per turn, after an allied Operator’s attack, she immediately fires her blaster to eliminate any enemy left at 4 Health or less. PC Gamer compared it to Fallout’s Mysterious Stranger. It is free cleanup that rewards a squad that chips enemies down, and it persists through any respec.
Because that finisher is her identity rather than a fixed class, Jae is flexible: you can spec her into whatever role your squad needs, and the finisher keeps adding free value on top.
Jae Mordant’s recommended class: Gunslinger

Jae’s class is your choice. A Gunslinger is our recommendation because it’s fast, multi-target fire, and wounds several enemies at once. Thus, giving her Final Shot talent more low-health targets to finish off. She is equally at home as a Scoundrel (opportunist setup) or a Sharpshooter if you prefer, so build her to fill whatever gap your roster has. Because none of these is fixed, you can respec her freely.
Specialization abilities can be further upgraded by earning Focus and spending it on the Operator’s Focus Tree.
Gunslinger abilities:

For the full ability table, Focus Tree order, and mod picks, see the Ultimate Gunslinger Build Guide; this page focuses on what makes Jae Mordant specifically worth running.
Jae Mordant Talent Specialization
Authored story characters have a fixed talent tied to their identity, not chosen from the custom-operator pool. It persists through any respec and is upgradeable, improving its own numbers as you invest.
Jae’s talent is Final Shot: once per turn, after an ally attacks, she fires her blaster to finish off any low Health enemy.
Final Shot is a powerful automatic cleanup Talent versus weak enemies that gets more value the more your squad wounds multiple enemies, and the higher you rank up its Tiers, with a solid 10 HP cap at Rank 4. This is a great addition to the other operators on your squad.
![]() Final Shot | Once per turn, Jae immediately fires her blaster and eliminates any enemy left with low Health after an allied Operator’s attack. | Tier 1: Eliminates enemies with 4 health or less Tier 2: Eliminates enemies with 6 health or less Tier 2: Eliminates enemies with 8 health or less Tier 4: Eliminates enemies with 10 health or less |
Best Secondary Specialization for Jae Mordant: Sharpshooter
Operators can unlock a Secondary Specialization once you hit Cycle 18 in game. Most custom Operators and some Story Companions can choose from any of the other 10 Classes in Zero Company to use as their Secondary Specialization (you can’t double up). The exception to this is the Astromech class and Tel-Rea, your Jedi Padawan. Secondary Specializations allow you to use all the abilities for that class but their Focus Tree upgrades cannot go past Tier 5, so a Secondary Spec will always be slightly weaker than if you had used it as your Primary Specialization.
For the Jae we recommend the Sharpshooter as your Second Specialization. The Sharpshooter directly offsets your reduced accuracy when using Quick Draw if you cast Zero In first and Sharpshooter Training also increases your chance to hit for all Blaster attacks.
Sharpshooter Abilities
| Ability | Effect | Upgrades |
|---|---|---|
![]() Precision Shot (Ultimate) | Fires a calculated blaster shot that always hits. Costs 6 Advantage | Tier 1: – Tier 2: Crit DMG +10% Tier 3: Crit DMG +20% Tier 4: Crit DMG +30% Tier 5: Crit DMG +40% Tier 6: Crit DMG +50% |
![]() Zero In (Standard) | Set up a position for accurate shooting and gain stacks of Lethal increasing Chance-To-Hit and Critical Chance. Costs 1 AP | Tier 1: +3 stacks of Lethal; +15% Chance-to-Hit; +9% Critical Chance Tier 2: 4 stacks of Lethal; +20% Chance-to-Hit; +12% Critical Chance Tier 3: 5 stacks of Lethal; +25% Chance-to-Hit; +15% Critical Chance Tier 4: 6 stacks of Lethal; +30% Chance-to-Hit; +18% Critical Chance Tier 5: 7 stacks of Lethal; +35% Chance-to-Hit; +21% Critical Chance Tier 6: 8 stacks of Lethal; +40% Chance-to-Hit; +24% Critical Chance |
![]() Pick Them Off (Passive) | Increases Overwatch Chance-to-Hit and Overwatch Damage. | Tier 1: +5% Overwatch Chance-to-Hit; +2 Overwatch Damage Tier 2: +10% Overwatch Chance-to-Hit; +3 Overwatch Damage Tier 3: +15% Overwatch Chance-to-Hit; +4 Overwatch Damage Tier 4: +20% Overwatch Chance-to-Hit; +5 Overwatch Damage Tier 5: +25% Overwatch Chance-to-Hit; +6 Overwatch Damage |
![]() Sharpshooter Training (Passive) | +10% Chance-to-Hit on all Blaster Attacks | Cannot Upgrade |
For a more support oriented Operator, consider using the Scout for Jae. The Scout’s Combat Recon ability is one of the best in the game at generating Advantage, so having a Scout somewhere on your team is highly recommended.
The Advantage System

Advantage is a shared, squad-wide resource pool that you build by damaging enemies. Every class ultimate requires a large spend of Advantage points, so the whole squad draws from one bank; you cannot fire everyone’s ultimate at once. Smaller abilities also draw from Advantage without costing Action Points, making managing the pool a core part of every turn.

Hawks can spend Advantage to refresh one squadmate’s Action Point once per turn.
Best weapon for Jae Mordant: Blaster Pistol

If you run Jae as a Gunslinger, a Blaster Pistol matches the dual-pistol, fast-firing identity and spreads damage across several enemies, feeding her finisher. To maximize her damage, consider using the Longarm Blaster which has the highest damage in the game, and if you don’t finish off the target her Final Shot talent probably will.
Best Weapon Mods

The four best weapon mods for the Jae are listed below:
| # | Utility | Slot | Effect |
| 1 | Ergonomic (combo with Quick Draw/Cycler) | Stabilizer | Increases Blaster damage by +1 per attack. |
| 2 | Cycler | Barrel | Chance to restore AP on hit. |
| 3 | Assassin’s Scope (or Precision Scope) | Scope | Increases Critical Hit Chance. |
| 4 | Shock Modulator (or Ion Modulator for Droids) | Cell | Inflicts Shock Status Effect |
Note: You start with one weapon mod upgrade, but can obtain four slots. You can do this through Den upgrades, campaign choice, and Zone Forn influence Tier 3. You must pick between a utility slot or a weapon mod. We will include four in our guide for your convenience, in priority order. Make sure to continue to upgrade your Black Market to unlock the best possible items and the ability to refresh them.
Best Jae Utility Items

The four best utility items for the Jae build are listed below:
| # | Utility | AP / Uses | Effect |
| 1 | Targeting Visor | Passive | Increases chance-to-hit and critical chance. |
| 2 | Scattergun (or Ion Blaster for Droids) | 2 AP | Conal AOE, 18 base damage. |
| 3 | Medpac (or Bacta Stim) | 1 AP | Heals 30% of ally Health. Not on Droids. |
| 4 | Impact Bomb (damage grenade) | 1 AP | Area damage (fire, droid, and concussive are choices) |
Note: you start with one utility item, but can obtain four slots. You can do this through Den upgrades, campaign choices, and Zone Dorn influence Tier 3. You must pick between a utility slot or a weapon mod. We will include four in our guide for your convenience, in priority order.
Jae Mordant Focus Tree Priority Tracker

Progression runs on Focus Points spent in the Focus Tree, not classic XP levels. Focus Points come mainly from Bonds: relationships that build between two operators who fight together. Two operators can also cross-train (Freeform Training), which grants +2 Focus Points to both, and bonds can decay over time if a pairing stops deploying together, so keep Jae Mordant in a steady core rotation.
Keep Jae in a steady rotation so her bonds build; because her value is a passive finisher rather than a fixed combo, she slots comfortably next to almost any core squad.
The Gunslinger wants to attack as many times per turn as possible; thus, your priority upgrades are Quick Draw and Open Fire. At level six, Quick Draw grants AP on defeating an enemy. Meanwhile, Open Fire shoots an additional time. This gives you the ability to wipe out many enemies in a single turn. Focus on these two nodes primarily, then upgrade Talent and Keen Eye in between.
Take the below Focus upgrades in this order as you start earning points:
| # | Take (ability and rank) |
| 1 | Quick Draw II |
| 2 | Open Fire II |
| 3 | Keen Eye II |
| 4 | Final Shot II |
| 5 | Quick Draw III |
| 6 | Open Fire III |
| 7 | Quick Draw IV |
| 8 | Open Fire IV |
| 9 | Quick Draw V |
| 10 | Open Fire V |
| 11 | Quick Draw VI |
| 12 | Open Fire VI |
| 13 | Final Shot III |
| 14 | Keen Eye III |
| 15 | Keen Eye IV |
| 16 | Final Shot IV |
| 17 | Keen Eye V |
Squad Synergy and Best Party Members

Because Jae is flexible and her finisher works passively, she slots into almost any squad. If you run her as a Gunslinger, build to maximize wounded targets for her finisher to clean up. A sample line-up:
- Healer and buffer: a Medic, built as a custom recruit. Combat Stim boosts her multi-target output.
- Frontline: Trick (Soldier), a Heavy, or Tel-Rea Vokoss, to hold enemies while Jae spreads damage.
- Setup or second DPS: a Scoundrel to flag crits, or Luco Bronc to remove the priority target while Jae’s finisher mops up the rest.

Jae Mordant Bonds/Cross Training
Bonds in Star Wars Zero Company are created when Operators work closely together in missions, particularly when Calling For Backup and dealing assist damage. Bonds are also built when Operators work on the same Operations together. Increasing your Bonds with other characters awards you Cross Training which are specfic stat boosts that both characters benefit from at the same time. We recommend prioritizing the following Cross Training upgrades for Jae:
- Fitness Work: Increases Max Health by +4 for both Operators.
- Ranged Combat Drills: Increases Ranged Damage by +1 for both operators.
- Target Practice: Reduces chance-to-hit penalties from range by 5% for both operators.
- Free Form Training: both operators gain an additional +2 focus points
How to play Jae Mordant (turn-by-turn)
We will update this section at launch. Build Jae to fit your squad’s gap; as a Gunslinger, spread fast fire across several enemies to wound them, and let her random finishing-blow assist clean up low-health targets automatically. Keep her behind a frontline and pop Combat Stim before a big multi-target turn. See the relevant class build guide for the full turn-by-turn.
Jae Mordant Permadeath
Jae Mordant can suffer from Permadeath if she suffers 3 Injuries in battle without recovering. This happens to all story characters with the exception of Hawks, where if he dies the mission ends in a game over. Permadeath means you lose the character from your squad forever moving over, even removing them from all future dialog and cutscenes.
Star Wars Zero Company Jae Mordant FAQ
1. Is Jae Mordant good in Star Wars Zero Company?
Yes. Jae is one of the most flexible companions because her value is a passive finisher rather than a fixed class: you can spec her into whatever your squad needs, and her random finishing-blow assist adds free cleanup on top. Her weakness is that she has no single defining combat kit, so her strength depends on how you build her.
2. Can you respec Jae Mordant?
Yes. Jae’s class is not fixed, so you can spec her into whatever role your squad needs at the Personnel facility in the Den. Her random finishing-blow signature persists through any respec, which makes her flexible: pair it with a class that wounds lots of enemies, like the Gunslinger, to give the finisher more chances to trigger.
3. What is Jae Mordant’s signature ability?
Jae’s talent is Final Shot: once per turn, after an allied attack, she fires her blaster to eliminate any enemy left at 4 Health or less (similar to Fallout’s Mysterious Stranger). It persists through any respec, and it rewards a squad that chips several enemies into finisher range.
